It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong. Set in a smoke-saturated, storm-brimming episode in the North Cascades of Washington, this photo essay chronicles the challenges of the alpine and boils down the important things while climbing up high.
THE INCREDIBLE HULK - PHOTO ESSAY BY CLAYTON HERRMANN
Nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, “The Incredible Hulk” towers over a floor of scree like a giant—and not the friendly kind. A steep 1,200-foot wall with long granite ridges stacked with striking spires culminates to its 11,300-foot summit, making a true marvel for climbers.

OUR CONNECTION TO EDUCATION, CONSERVATION
AND ADVOCACY, AND RESCUE SUPPORT
THE AMERICAN ALPINE CLUB (AAC)
was established over 100 years ago by the nation’s leading climbers and conservationists. They provide education and inspiration, conservation and advocacy, rescue support, and so much more, all with the goal of strengthening the bonds of our outdoor community.
We work with the AAC by supporting and expanding annual events like the Craggin’ Classic Series, a nationally-touring climbing festival series fostering community, climbing education, and environmental stewardship.
We’ve also been the sole supporter of the Club’s McNeill-Nott Grant, a women-specific climbing grant founded to honor Sue Nott and Karen McNeill, talented athletes who lost their lives on Mt. Foraker in 2006.
This past year has threatened crucial organizations and livelihoods that all of us in the outdoor community rely on. If we want to keep enjoying the places we love, we have to do our part to give a little extra to those that make those experiences possible.
