MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR
PRESENTS:
KOHINA
Anna Laitnen climbing in Finland.
Kohina (‘noise’) is a film that follows MHW Team athlete Anna Laitinen
around her home country and beyond, as she finds the quiet focus
required for climbing the famously fear-inducing rocks of Finland.
A quiet moment of Anna visualizing her hand placements for her route while sitting on the ground with her eyes closed.
“When you say ‘Finnish climbing’ the
whole climbing community knows
what it means. A Finnish climber has
been through a lot. Finnish climbing
is wet, scary, mossy, and difficult. I
mean really difficult… If you can
climb a hard route in Finland, you
will make it any other country.”

This film was directed by Sami Laitinen,
a Finnish photographer, filmmaker and
creative producer. Sami first picked up a
camera when he discovered the family
point-and-shoot film camera 20 years
ago, and has been hooked on capturing
those split-second moments in
natural places ever since.

With her success on the route
“Escalamasters” this year, Anna
became the first Finnish woman to climb
9a. There are only 50 other women in
the world who have climbed this grade.
