Rated 5 out of 5 by from Optic 3.5 Rocks I used my new Optic 3.5 the first weekend I had it. The door/window set up is awesome for the views. The Optic it is perfect size for myself, girlfriend, 2 dogs and gear. Set up is easy and packs down nice. Great buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely Impressed I bought this tent for my fiance and I. It being the first "premium" tent I've purchased I was a bit lost on what to buy. We ended up deciding on the Optic as we are going to the mountains and the zip away fly/doors won me over. Can't wait to wake up and see an amazing view. Our first trip out with it is where it truly impressed me. We set it up in the wind and rain, and quickly at that. Once we threw the fly over it my fiance dried up the floor and I finished setting it up. The rest of the evening and much of the night we were hammered by rain and wind with an air mattress that hit all four walls from the inside. We woke up dry. We've since taken it out a few more times and it hasn't let us down yet. Can't wait to use it again. If you are thinking about buying this tent just pull the trigger and buy it. You won't regret it. This tent has made me a Mountain Hardwear customer. Just bought a couple sleeping bags because of it. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Durable, Great All-Around Tent I've used this tent for the past two years, and put it through A LOT. From alpine climbing to international travelling. It incorporates nicely ventilated walls, including various gear pockets and loops, although with the rain cover it insulates heat well. Vestibles provide good room for backpacks of any size, can also be stored inside in brutal conditions, but be prepared for an uncomfortable sleep if that's the case w/ three people. Classic Shape and design, however a strong and sturdy frame, especially when using guylines; but the tent is incredibly difficult to set up in very windy & dark environments. This shouldn't be a concern for lightweight backpackers or weekend family campers. The floor material is VERY Strong, even without the footprint, so you won't be filing down your nails in fear. I do find the footprint does not want to stay on in uneven terrain and even when it does, it is not a snug fit. Overall this is a great tent, but I wouldn't say this is a four season; but it will last you for years to come, if you care for it properly. Cheers! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 2+ tent with Dog and Gear This tent exceeded my expectations with 2 poeple plus gear and a dog in mind. Plenty of space of sleeping and gear storage in the vestubles. The 180 degree view really was a nice touch. The fabric is made well and set up is virtually self explanitory with any knowledge of tent construction. One added product that anyone should consider is an addition of a water resistant ground cover for rain and morning dew consideration. Overall another great product from MHW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from go-to tent This tent has been the most used out of my arsenal of tents from 2P all the way to my 8P tent, even when camping solo. This tent is spacious and comfortable and includes 2 large vestibules for storing gear. i wish there were more pockets, but i also understand the limiting factors are due to the design in which two of the walls are doors, definitely not a deal breaker. The fly is solid and seals out moisture, however it also holds it in. I experienced moisture buildup on the inside of the fly/tent while camping solo in cold weather where the fly was sufficiently staked out. Opening the fly door allowed it to eventually evaporate off after the sun came out. With more than 1 body in the tent and less than pristine camping conditions, it may make for a slightly humid camping experience if good ventilation is difficult to achieve. The good! camping in Joshua Tree with the fly off and sleeping under the desert sky was phenomenal! you have a clear view of everything around you and above you. Easy to get in and out of, unpack and setup. Construction of the tent is solid, well built and easy to put together. Every tent i've put together has been in the dark and this one is exceptionally easy to unpack and have setup in under 10min under a headlamp. would purchase again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bummed I bought this. First off the tent works great for car camping and dry weather camping. The mesh is great for seeing the stars and having cool winds breeze through. The fly works great in rain. Hopefufully the tent is setup before the rain. The bad: This tent is not designed for wet environments. The fly entrance overlaps the door entrance allowing for water to drip in. This goes for both entrances. When setting up in rain the all mesh body allows all rain drops to enter. Be fast on the setup and drape the fly over while setting up. With that said, the fly is very water resistant and covers the whole tent. Sorry, but I'm bummed that I bought this tent. Its still a good tent for dry weather but was frustrating and soggy in wet. That overlap of the fly and door is such a pain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great veiw/great doors Downsizing from the great Atrium 6, we went with this Optic 3.5. It fits only our 2 full size thermarests. It would be tight w/our 85lb dog. We are both 5'8,150 lbs. Sadly can't stand up in this one ,just crawl out of the tent each morning in Red Canyon, near Bryce Cyn. Very pleased with the ease of putting it up, in mere minutes, & the big beautiful view. Very small vestibules, useless to us. No directions on the extra pole- FYI-it goes on top to hold the fly off the tent. Quiet zippers. Love MTNHDWARE, just wish it was our Atrium 6, the very BEST tent ever, no longer in manufacture.
