Reviews

Men's Quasar™ Lite II Jacket is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Product Rain shells are an interesting product as a segment. If you just don't want rain to make it through to your body, then nothing on the market can beat the $4.99 poncho. It's completely waterproof, typically lightweight, and packs easily. What we want though is something that "breathes", functions like a rock star when actually being used as advertised (alpine adventures), and gets us compliments around town. And yet, until we get to a point where we no longer need some kind of inner membrane, that no matter it's fancy labeling or technology, is still a piece of plastic that we wrap around ourselves, getting jackets that truly "breathe" is a bit of a misnomer, no matter how many times a tag or website says the word "breathes". Also, if you just want to stop water from getting to you, any product with a membrane will do that. What the Quasar Lite II does well, is work within our technological limitations to produce a jacket with underarm pit zips (more on this below) and generous front pocket vents to allow extra ventilation when the membrane can't keep up with your perspiration level, has an incredibly high level of fit and finish, and looks quite smart, if I don't mind saying so myself. They worked some kind of magic on the inner lining, because I honestly can't tell that it's there. I thought that this must be a 3 layer jacket, but it's not, meaning that it is easily the best executed 2.5 layer jacket I've ever seen. It runs a tad large, I wear a small (6.0' 155lbs) and the arms are a tad long for me, but at least that means the jacket stays in place. Another plus, is that this things moves like crazy. Because of their magic in making the jacket so light and thin, and because the pit zips are only on the arm of the jacket instead of running from the elbow down the side of the body, there is no stiff zipper to restrict your movement. This thing almost moves likes its made of a stretch material. I can't comment on longevity yet, but one reason I was willing to spring for a premium level product was because I am convinced that this jacket will last me a long time. And if it doesn't, I know that Mountain Hardwear is always there to back up their product. Buy away consumer - I believe this jacket will reward your confidence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid shell Used on Rainier in april. Whiteout the whole time. Kept me dry while pitzips did the breathing. Very light and minimal, just like I want. The big tooth zipper is a plus. Large chest vents too. Would recommend.
