Men's Ghost Whisperer™ Down Hooded Jacket is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 162.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent specific use down jacket Great down jacket if you are specifically looking for something light weight. Zippers feel delicate but have had no issues. Fabric is also light, somewhat translucent if back lit. If you are looking for an every day winter down jacket, this is not it. Probably would not ski the trees with it either. But if super light and super warm is your goal, great choice. Used it at Mammoth on a 15 degree day with a base layer, perfect all day, again, would not want to brush up against a tree, but it was not an off piste day. Also use it as my primary insulation layer for a few Rainier summits, excellent technical warm insulation layer. But again, its probably not the best choice for a day to day down jacket. I'm 6'0" and 180#, Large fits nice, maybe a tiny bit on the loose side, but the added mobility is appreciated. And fits well under my MH Dragonsback shell size M. MH sizing is a bit varying by each item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ultra light jacket I just got the Ghost Whisper jacket and love it. I've been replacing all my backpacking gear with ultra light equipment and this was my latest addition. It is super light, 7.7oz, but is nice and toasty warm. The down jacket moderates the temperature well and kept me nice and warm at my daughter's soccer game the other day. I haven't experienced getting it wet yet, so we'll see how it works in that environment, but at least for backpacking, this will fit nice into my pack to reduce overall weight while still looking great and keeping me warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultimate layer This jacket is perfect for fall nights by itself and even better for layering because it's so light and flexible. When you have other layers underneath and I'm top, you don't even feel that's it's there but you DO notice the warm that it provides you, which I must say if finonimal. It was 7.7 oz with the hood which is insane, and it's highly compressible. I really love this down jacket 10/10 would buy again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A sonnet worthy jacket How do I love this jacket? Let me count the ways... This is, by far, the most versatile item in my closet. It packs down to almost nothing (hence I have no excuse to leave it at home) yet provides tremendous warmth for the weight. And weight? It barely registers on a scale. I have worn the jacket for almost two years now and it is remarkably durable in spite of the super light fabric. It fits easily under a shell, blocks wind pretty well, and can shed a light rain or snow fall. I also combine it under my MHW Phantom puffy while hanging around the tent during winter ski camps. In short, this is the best jacket I have ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super light, fits great This jacket is insanely light. I was a little unsure of which size to get and was torn between medium and large. I am 6'2", 165lbs and usually get larges in most clothes but I ended up going with a medium. It is a prefect fit. It isn't short in the sleeves, I have full range of motion without the arms riding up. The bottom of the jacket falls right at the middle of my groin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must for a Thru-Hike! The weight to warmth ratio on this thing is amazing. When I got the package in the mail, I didn't think my jacket was in it because it was just too light but there it was! Crazy warm and seems to keep out any winds from penetrating keeping you nice and warm!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lightweight backpacking jacket I love this jacket. Just got back from a short camping trip (my 6 month old son’s first trip!). This down jacket was great for the evening and morning. It dropped down into the low 50s. I feel like I would have been fine in the low 40s with just this jacket. If it got any lower I would have probably put on my rain jacket to add another layer. Can’t wait to get it out for a backpacking trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second purchase Already owned the hoodless version in size small which fits snugly (I'm 5' 10", 175 lbs.). Liked it so much that I purchased the hooded version on sale and at size medium to allow a couple of layers. A little shiny for my taste but can't beat the quality and weight. Couldn't be happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Fabulous, Seriously Warm, Seriously Slick Can’t beat the color scheme (Manta Grey Shark) Can’t beat the packability, (is that a word?) cause i can stuff it in my back pocket if I needed too. Fits like a nicely tailored shirt. So lightweight, you’re thinking to yourself, “How’s this gonna keep me warm?” Trust me, it’s seriously warm. With a long sleeve base layer, and add my Torsun shell (Also a killer purchase) over it and bada bing, pretty much ready for cold weather into the low 40s upper 30s. I’ll admit, other reviews of this sweater mention the zipper being a bit on the delicate side and I have to agree. You can tell that it needs to be treated with TLC, so i definitely don’t rush zipping up or down. Also, it’s low bulk is achieved by using materials that would definitely NOT stand up to any sharp snags so don’t blaze trails in it and expect to come out unscathed. It’s a shy on bling features but it’s simplicity is a plus for me. Bottom line, it’s the bomb. Worth every penny....and that’s a lot of pennies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Specialised - 5 Stars doesn't mean it's right for everyone Don't get me wrong, I think the Ghost Whisperer is a great piece of gear but it is specialised, and I can't help wondering whether some of the five-star ratings are from individuals justifying their purchase to themselves. First and foremost this is a very light jacket, and you need to accept all the costs and compromises that go into that. The ultra light weight and pack-ability are ideal for hiking. Particularly if you are carrying it just-in-case. It does add significant warmth for the weight and pack space. But a great warmth to weight ratio doesn't make it a warm jacket. It's one layer, in a system, and it needs the right system to work well. Don't expect to be warm and sedentary in sub-zero conditions with just a base layer and this jacket. There simply isn't enough down and loft for that. The jacket is sewn through, and thus there is zero loft at the stitching points. If you move up to a heavier jacket this is one of the first deficiencies that is often addressed. In my mind sewing through is the most significant sacrifice made in reducing the weight of this jacket. If you team the jacket with an extremely light weight hard-shell, then the air around the stitching is trapped by the outer shell, and the jacket is noticeably warmer. The shell also increases warmth due to protection from the wind. The shell does need to be very light though because the small amount of down in the Ghost Whisperer can't maintain loft if there is any weight on it. I've slept for a week in the snow wearing the Ghost Whisperer Hoody and felt much warmer when wearing my rain gear over the top. As part of a well thought out system I do recommend this jacket. But if it is frigid, you should be looking for something with more down and a less compromising approach to construction. I see other reviewers posing in the city street with their whole family kitted out in Ghost Whisperers. To me this is the wrong product for them. For a bit more weight and fewer dollars, they could have a much warmer, windproof and water-resistant jacket, with some styling that they can throw in the back of the hire car. No need to worry about ripping the ultra-thin fabric, soaking the down or struggling with finicky light weight zippers. In conclusion, buy the Ghost Whisperer if your warmth needs are modest and weight is critical. Product reviews consistently find this jacket to be a leader in the warmth for weight ratio. If you need a lot of warmth, this jacket isn't for you. If you can compromise on the weight, there are many other options to explore. Ultralight hiking and mountaineering - 5 stars. Applications where weight is secondary - 3 stars.
