Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now you're ready for anything For me when the time came to buy a new jacket I had these Must haves in mind- It must be breathable, It must be Water proof "to the extent that I am not laying in a river, but walking out in the worst rain storm I can imagine, It must not restrict my movement. Well that's basically what I got in the mail last week with this jacket. The material and craftsmanship are of the highest MT.hardware quality. No doubt about it. From the fully tape/welded seams, to the clever way they hide the pull cord adjusters inside the jacket with a push button design. The hood is huge but I like it that way. I highly doubt I will ever use it with a helmet but at least I know I could if I wanted to. Now the fit is great, the material really stretches in a way I was not used to with a jacket. Not on the level of Cstone 24/7 pants the but it is noticeable enough. I ordered a large because I wanted to be sure I could layer underneath it. The large is big on me in the chest but perfect in the arms and the shoulder. Perfect length too. I am 5'11" and about 175ish lbs, and I normally would wear a mt.hardware size medium shirt.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Shell, except Excellent Product, except .... This is my second MW Shell both size L. The first shell fits perfectly but this Jacket doesn't . The shoulders are too tight, won't be able to wear a winter fleece under jacket which was my intended purpose... but other than that its a nice product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Rain Shell Replaced my 12yr old Gore Tex Mtn Hdw rain coat with this. Super happy with the quality and the fit! If you need a versatile rain coat that will keep you dry, this is your coat

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket With Flaw Ive had this jacket now for about 3 years and it is still my go to wet and cold weather shell. Its been one of the greatest shells I've owned minus one flaw. The zipper design causes it to be very uncomfortable on your neck. It either needs to be zipped way down or all the way up. the two sides will not lay down when unzipped. They both go to one side making the zipper rub your neck. Overall I'd recommend it, but the "neck, zipper" area needs to be redesigned for comfort.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a Softshell Mountain Hardware has forgotten what a softshell is on this product. The material is on the stiff range. It feels just a step softer then Gore-Tex or similar standard shell material. Compared to my other older M.H. softshells which I wear around the house/tent like pajamas (Synchro Softshell and Alchemy Softshell from 10 years ago) this jacket (Dry Q. Alchemy) feels like a Gore-Tex shell in terms of comfort. The cut of the fabric is obvious that of a standard shell. I wear size Large in all M.H. products and this feels baggy on me. I am used to snug athletic fit for softshells and this hangs of the body. I ordered this product because I don't like wearing true rain/snow-jacket shells unless severe weather conditions demand it. I was looking for a replacement for my favorite softshell which is the MH Synchro jacket which has seen over 10,000 plus river hours over 12 years as a fly-fishing guide. That jacket was 100% waterproof and unbelievably comfortable, and still is in good working condition. This Dry-Q can hold up to the weather but is mediocre in terms of comfort. I am keeping the jacket but I think I will have to search for another company to provide an option for a 100% waterproof softshell that is cozy for all conditions. In the past M.H. was the only option but maybe somebody else has taken the torch for them. I ordered the Seraction Jacket also as my hard shell and find that jacket is awesome and fits true, it's just that I avoid hard shells if possible. It looks like I will have to keep sporting my old Synchro until I find a new fav.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alchemy Transformed I had a first version of this jacket and loved it. I bought another because the old jacket was beginning to fail after a decade of use. This jacket lives up to the Alchemy name. Not only did the jacket change from looking like a casual jacket to a true piece of gear, the functionality of the jacket changed as well. This is a great piece of gear to add to your quiver if you need a single-layer light-weight shell that can convert to a cold weather shell too. The Dry.Q Elite material allows much of the moisture from sweating to pass through which allows easier body temperature regulation. Also nice to have the pockets double as core ventilation when needed. A bit pricey, but look for it on sale and it is a great jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alchemy Hooded Softshell Just received this jacket yesterday. I had a couple of non-hooded softshell jackets about 5 years ago and did not care for them due to their ability to keep me dry from the elements or keep me warm. I have since then, with doing research and better understanding of their use, have acquired a few MHW softshell jackets, with this being my second (my first is the non-hooded and non-waterproof Android--original model--jacket and currently en route to me the original Gore Windstopper based Mountain Tech jacket--the version that had the pit zips BTW). I'm 5'11", weigh 196, have a 35 sleeve and wear a 41 sport coat. The Large fits me perfectly. I have included some photos to highlight the fit through the body and with a helmet. The helmet compatible hood, which is prevalent in most, if not all MHW jackets I believe, is fantastic. I can easily layer under the Alchemy my Desna Grid jacket and still have good mobility. The jacket itself provides a decent amount of warmth (as far as a softshell is concerned mind you). Long ago I thought softshell jackets were supposed to keep your both warm and dry under all weather conditions, not what this specific model or what softshells in general are supposed to do mind you. The Vislon AquaGuard zipper is easy to use and I am glad its a two way zipper for good venting. The pack and harness compatible handwarmers pull double duty for core venting too which is nice. The inner drop mesh pocket is nice as is the interior zip pocket. Too bad neither will work for my iPhone 6 Plus. I am looking forward to putting the Alchemy Hooded softshell jacket through the paces when I return to Chamonix next Spring for some backpacking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Awkward hood fit The hood has a poor design and can't be cinched down properly, in addition the front zips up way too high, above my nose. This jacket is bulky, the chest had an odd shape that I can't describe. It would fit a large chested woman better than me. the sleeves are a good length and have a simple design for tightening the cuffs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Softshell Let me begin by saying I was skeptical about this product as I have always worn another well-known brand. I took my chances and purchased this product and much to my surprise wore it on one of the coldest (10 F) days in NYC. I walked around the city with a shell underneath, and two simple layers, and much to my surprise I didn’t feel the brisk wind and chill that the elements had in store on that day. I wore it later in the evening and again I was surprised how the wind and harsh cold weather did not penetrate the jacket. I’m a true believer this jacket is phenomenal in its performance, and craftsmanship. I would highly recommend this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had sworn off softshells... I wore it to the summits of Mt Rainier, Hood some others, its my ski jacket and, after lots of wear and washing the DWR finish is great and its WAY more waterproof and BILLIONS times more breathable than gore-stuff. I got mine pre-release so I got an entire season of wear from it. I used to hate soft shell jackets after one left me hypothermic on Mt Adams but this jacket is making me a believer. Not a soccer mom softshell to wear around campus this is for the mountains. The hood fits over a helmet perfectly. I am 5' 10" and weigh 185-195 and the Large fits with layering room underneath. Zippers are still really stiff and the shock cord adjusters are impossible to use with gloves so dial it in before you climb.
