Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding - Boy Scout troop tested Our large troop in southeastern PA has used the Drifter 3 for over 10 years. We have 15 of the tents and they are used every month of the year throughout the Northeast. Each tent has at least 100 nights of camping and many exceed 200 nights. Size is good - we typically assign two scouts per tent and occasionally put three 11-13 year old scouts in one tent. Weight is not prohibitive and we use them for backpacking frequently. Easy to set up and break down. We usually set up in the dark and even the young scouts can figure it out with minimal direction. Rain fly is excellent with large vestibules for gear. Ventilation is very good. These are very durable tents. Over the years we have had a few broken poles and lost parts. MH has always replaced and repaired for free. Great warranty and customer service. The tents are still functional and used monthly. We will eventually replace them with more MH tents. I strongly recommend this tent for two and three person camping. If you can find it new on the market - buy it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent After having a number of backpacking tents I've really enjoyed this one. The expanded fly makes covering gear easy in the vestibules or inside the tent. A tight fit for three (like all three man tents) but perfect for two and some gear/dog. At 6' tall there's still enough room at either end for me. I've camped in very wet areas and windy ones in the tent and have not been disappointed. The footprint integration is very user friendly and functional as well. I would absolutely recommend for a friend or anyone needing a good backpacking tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent! I used this tent extensively this summer and was very impressed. Durable (though I do too have some concerns about the plastic connectors…), extremely easy to set up, and quite roomy! On a week long canoe trip, two other women and I, along with our dry bags, fit very comfortably. I even slept on the edge near the tent wall during a rain storm and my down sleeping bag was completely dry! As others have said, it stands up great to wind and rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good All Around Tent I have had a full spring, summer and fall to use this tent in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Super easy to pitch, either tent first, or fly first. I also find it to be very portable for being on the larger size of back packing tents. Sleeps two easy. It fit two XL REI Camp Bed 3.5's plus my dog. Pleased with the water proofing through several rain storms. Also handles condensation pretty well. Footprint, tent and fly in a bag..... What more do you need? Good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent Luxurious for two and adequate for three....no news there. Bought the tent for backpacking for two persons which means the modest weight of this tent would be shared. To keep it simple here is why this tent is worthy of your consideration........ Last year, while hiking the Ap Trail, my brother and I found ourselves late one day in one of the worst wind storm we had ever witnessed. There was far too much wind to build our evening fire for sure. We of course hit the sack early that night with a sense that anything we had not tied down might be blown away by morning.. The wind howled and sounded like a freight train passing through just a few yards away. Yet, with all that intimidating wind outside, this tent maintained its integrity while giving us a sense of security. It's under severe conditions like these where you truly come to know whether your equipment/gear either fails or excels. This tent passed my test and it will likely pass yours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for 2, tight squeeze for 3! Well-designed with two doors and larger vestibules. Floor space is a tight for 3 people, but fine for two plus some gear. Basic tent design, nothing too fancy, but it makes for easy setup. I took off a star because the fly seems disproportionately heavy. It's definitely bomber in terms of waterproofness/durability, but I think MH could've gone with a lighter material without sacrificing too much. Really great that the footprint is included (so is a gear loft but I'm like the only person in the world, it seems, that doesn't get excited about gear lofts...)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing. This tent is the best xmas present I've ever bought for myself. I've used it over a dozen times since last christmas. I just came back from an epic trip up mt. adams with it. I was a little scared that it wouldn't hold up with the winds but this guy was a champ. It's a little heavy and big but I normally carry it and have my roommates for the night carry my food to distribute the weight. I had 4 guys and a girl sitting crisscross and playing cards in it. I wouldn't bring this if I were traveling solo. I got caught in a serious downpour and lighting storm while hiking through steens mtns and this thing held up great. It barely shook from the winds and I was dry as a bone when I woke up. You'd be a fool to not get this tent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal tent - at least under ideal conditions! We bought the Drifter 3P backpacking tent for our first family backpacking trip. I've backpacked on and off for 23 years, but this would a first for my husband and 6 y/o. My Marmot 1P wasn't quite going to cut it. :) We literally picked it up from UPS the day we were leaving, set it up quickly at home to make sure there weren't any major flaws, and hit the trail. Set up couldn't be easier. Even my 6 y/o could do it. Three air mattresses fit easily abreast with our 80lb dog at our feet. While definitely snug, there was still room left over for clothes, etc. stashed at our heads and feet, and the gear loft works great for stuff sacks, cameras, headlamps, etc. We left our packs outside and hung our food, so we found no space issues. The sides of the tent start to taper quite a bit, so the outside people (naturally the two larger adults in our case!) have some minor space restrictions, but I wouldn't consider it a 'negative'. We never used the rainfly so I can't speak to that and the weather was quite dry. But we enjoyed gorgeous views of Mt. Adams and starry skies through the open mesh design. The two doors were very helpful. All in all, we couldn't be much happier with our purchase and would highly recommend. Granted we were in as ideal conditions as it gets, can't speak to how it would hold up under adverse conditions, but I would guess it would be just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AT tested Just had a quick trip to Clingmans dome on the AT. snow on the ground and a windy night was not problem. Did take me a bit more time to put it up in the cold but that was just because I went the DP way (thinking I would eliminate any chance of a rain downpour.) Kept us warm and dry....plenty of space for 2 people with all our gear inside.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality tent, fly still alows condensation through The Drifter 3 is a quality mid sized tent that could sleep three if needed. There are many design features that are well thought out, with durability incorporated into everything. The fly covers the tent well and is easy to secure in wind; however, while camping with high humidity recoveries the fly would allow condensation through to make the tent wet in the morning. I did not apply any waterproofing to the fly and did not keep the fly away from the tent; so those factors may have contributed to my problem. Otherwise I would recommend this tent to anyone looking for a tent of similar size and price range.
