Rated 5 out of 5 by from Down Parka This coat is gorgeous and amazing, it exceeded my expectations-having never ordered from mountainhardware.com. I am looking forward to next winter when I can take full advantage of the coats warmth. It is light in weight, but so full of quality. I will definitely be order from mountainhardware.com again! Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Women's Downtown Jacket (XS) I purchased this for my teenage daughter and, like the Butterlicious layering jacket, she does actually wear it, which is a plus with a teenage girl when dad is trying to find utility that doesn't appall her fashion sensibilities. This is a heavy jacket at 2 lbs; and even at XS, is a bit long for her (she is 4'10" @~75-80 lbs); but it does its job of keeping her warm during the few times it is cold enough where she actually needs a jacket like this here in the Pacific NW. The main zipper can be somewhat of a struggle from the bottom; but this is common with the heavy-zippered products at MH- and I believe will be remedied with break-in. The build quality is quite high, as one would expect from MH, a division of Columbia. She likes the faux-fur trim and, like the Ghost Whisperer line, the Q-shield water-resistant down helps keep her dry even though the outer layer isn't technically waterproof. The jacket compacts into a manageable size, though I wouldn't consider it for backpacking or hiking- it is way too heavy; that isn't its natural milieu. It is an excellent city jacket and outer layer that I (and more importantly, my daughter) can recommend for its use as described. On a separate and more general note, I have noticed a slight fall-off over the past decade in general for all performance clothing manufacturers' products, as they move actual production of the jacket overseas (Vietnam, Myanmar, et al.) instead of in the US or Canada- except for the exceptionally high-end mountaineering products, which are still made in Canada. Mountain Hardwear was started right here in Seattle and since their having been featured prominently in the 1998 'Everest' IMAX documentary, it has been great and I've been proud to see their products take their place along side the other exceptional pinnacle brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome warmth This jacket was purchased as a gift and the person loved it. Provides superior warmth and it's true to size. The waterproofing is good for medium rain in northeast weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from light and great to wear I bought for my mom and she love this coat because it is very light and warm. If outside warm does not create heat absorption from outside. The cold could not get and in. It is very well insulation product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Washing leads to damaged faux fur hood liner. I live in Wisconsin. So this coat keeps me quite warm considering I layer up for our harsh winters. The zippers are sub par. That being said, my first delicate wash and delicate low heat dry ended up with a damaged faux hood liner. Please note I have a high end front loading washer and dryer. Using both hand wash setting and delicates extra low heat setting. The wash instructions word for word: machine wash cold gentle, do not bleach, tumble dry low, remove promptly, do not iron, do not use fabric softener, do not dry clean. Nothing about "remove faux liner or it will singe up and damage after your low heat dry and prompt removal" Thanks mountain hardware now my once cute faux fur looks like a squirrel that got close to a campfire. My JCREW wool pea coat of 15 years was much more durable. So much for a winter upgrade.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not nearly as good as old generation I am really disappointed to say that Mountain Hardware seems to have lost its touch. I loved an older generation of the downtown coat and purchased this coat as a replacement. The new generation does not come near to the quality of the old one. The zippers are low in quality, the down fill is less dense, the fit is too generous, and even the collar detail appears low in quality compared the older generation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Huge puffy looking upper arms! This coat would be perfect if the arms were sleeker looking. They make my upper arms look about 2 times their size & stick OUT. My other puffy down coat does not do that. My friend has the earlier version of this coat and I looked at some pictures of us recently & noticed her long thin ballerina arms look puffy too! Then the amount of down in each section reduces until almost nothing by the time you get to the wrist section, and then there is almost no down fill. I'd love to see a knit cuff on the bottom of the sleeves as well. Love the double zipper, the faux fur ruff on the hood (not too much, not too little) and the fleece lining on the inside. I'm torn on whether or not to return it. If I can find a better coat out there next week, I think I might. I just don't want to because the rest of the coat is pretty awesome. I am not sure for the money if I can live with out of proportion looking upper arms. It's very unflattering on me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very warm I think this coat is a newer edition of it and it is thinner and less warm than the previous edition. I did hours and hours of research for a coat and thought I had found the perfect one.... Pros - lined pockets (although thin fleece), the fleece/soft lining in the top of the jacket in the back around to the zipper in the front is nice! And the hood is excellent, it stays on no problem. The zipper zips up well and seems good quality, zips all the way up to the chin and has a soft fleece covering around the zipper. The jacket is long which is nice. Cons- very thin and not as warm as I thought it would be. Very light weight. I tried it out on a walk here in California on a night when it was 55 degrees feels like 49, (and the winter nights here have a dampness to it because I am by the ocean so it feels chillier.) I only wore a t-shirt underneath it and I was just perfect. A little cold when I started out but then warmed up. I am returning this jacket because I fear it will not keep me warm enough when I move back to NY this summer. I figured with a fleece underneath it would keep one warm down into the low 40's but 20/30's I don't think it would be warm enough without a lot of layering. The jacket does look great though! If you are looking for a jacket that is around the 40 degree range with a nice fleece underneath then this jacket is for you. I was just looking for something warmer. Also - I am 5'9, 145 lbs and Medium was a great fit. I have average/long arms and an athletic build with a B bust size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Down Jacket I ever had the shell fabric handfeel is very good and there's fleece-lined super comfortable. it provides better warmth compared with other down jacket. I really love this one and already recommend to my friends, it's really worth to get one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Warm!! This is the warmest jacket I've ever owned! I'm surprised by how well it keeps the wind out too. Usually, the wind goes right through down jackets, but when I have this one on I don't feel the wind at all. Now you guys need to make a full length one that covers my legs too!
