Shifter™ 3 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tent, minor flaw Love the tent. The size is great for three and the weight is easily dispersed across the group so that's not an issue. I see a minor flaw in the vestibule. There are two small poles that support the hip roof on the vestibule on one side. The hip roof is a great and easy way to make more space in the vestibule but the poles are sewn in and not removable. I would like to them be able to be removed for packing. As it is, they prevent you from stuffing into as small a ball as would be possible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shifter 3 Tent I love this tent! It's just the right size, light weight and the rain fly really works. The only thing I don't like is that it is all mesh. I live in the Northwest and cool, wet camping is common. That's my fault, though. I should have looked more carefully when I purchased it to notice. That makes the rainfly even more important. Good quality tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I bought this tent a year ago. Every time I've been camping it's rained and this tent has never leaked. It's super easy to put up, lightweight and durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Couples With a Dog Used this tent in the summer months in Tahoe and the North Coast of California. It is easily carried between two people and compresses nicely, though the small stakes in the back vestibule are sewn in, so they obviously do not compress to the full potential of the fly. This is not a deal breaker at all. The set up is quick and the fly has a nice reflective finish so as to easily spot it at night at a distance. The ties also have reflective points throughout which is a nice touch. Inside the tent is awesomely spacious with room for two and plenty of gear or three with the gear outside of either vestibule. The large rear vestibule was perfect for our husky, with plenty of space for her to make circles and find a "good spot" to curl up into. The set-up options are plentiful, offering either a nice open view which can be covered with the front vestibule when needed, or if you prefer, spinning the tent 180 degrees to close off the front completely from wind. This is a nice, versatile tent with awesome features for the price, unless you are packing for more than 12-15mi per day, the weight is perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good except for the "shoulder" We bought this tent less than a year ago and it has functioned well in 4 national parks/seashores, a few state parks, and an outdoor concert series. A family member recommended MH based on his experience with the precursor model (Drifter 3P) and the Rain Room test (watch it!). After more than 30 nights in our Shifter 3, we have a few thoughts to pass along... 1. Set-up - easy/fast/convenient even in dark nights and gale force winds 2. Versatile - 3P size is nice for "car camping" so you can store bags in the tent BUT the pack size/weight is also reasonable for overnights when split between two hikers. Our double sleeping bag fits well too. 3. "Shouldered" vestibule - Sorry MH, but we are not a fan of this detail. It is good in theory for storing packs but it doesn't seem to function well. Entry to the tent via this door is awkward and we do not feel that it is advantageous for gear storage. It's actually detrimental to us because we don't use it at all. Also, the "shoulder" tends to catch wind so in breezy conditions it is quite noisy as the fly flaps constantly. We would prefer two of the traditional doors. 4. Storage - The gear loft is awesome and there are great pockets at each corner. 5. Interior Doors are "U" shaped so they fall into the tent so they NEVER fall to the ground/mud (rather than "C" shaped doors that fall to the side when unzipped). 6. WATERPROOF - rain room and real life 7. BOTTLE OPENER - located on the rear vestibule 8. Footprint is included in purchase price! Overall, we love it with the exception of the "shouldered" vestibule (which will likely lead us to a purchase a different model).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for 2 + Gear Set up is simple and fast (even in the dark). Tear down is just as easy and if you are trying to break camp fast you will find that the stuff sack is just a tad oversized and will accommodate some "sloppy" folding/rolling (which was awesome). More than enough room for two people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tent Three days near Zions Park. Huge rains in the evenings and night. Caused major flooding in the area, but not a drop in my tent. So impressed with the way it handled the rain. Using it for my wife and I, but we could throw another in if needed, because there is quite a bit of room under the rain fly for equipment. Love my new tent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic size for a tent I bought this tent because our last one was to small. This one was for myself, my boyfriend and our dog (50 pounds) and held our things perfectly. It was easy to set up and take down and felt very spacious inside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice tent! The footprint of the tent might be tight for 3 but not unreasonably so. Overall it is incredibly roomy. I was a bit surprised by its volume. It has two nice vestibules for entry and storing gear. My guess with its high profile is you will need to aggressively stake it down in windy conditions. It looks like a "flyer". I bought this for my boy scout son, but it is probably too big for him. I think I will keep it myself and get him the Shifter 2 instead... ;o)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Shifter 3 tent a Nice tent - for cooler weather We loved the size, weight, easy set-up and price of this tent. The vestibule size covers our packs on one side and medium-sized dog on the other. On a canoe camping trip to Quetico Park we had a couple long nights of hard rain, and the snug pitch resulted in everything staying dry (except our sleeping bag feet). The one major drawback is the absence of a second zippered screen/mesh door. Both the REI and the Mountain Hardware descriptions note "two mesh/canopy doors with dual-slider zippers," which all our previous tents have had. Our tent came with a zippered solid panel door and a screen/mesh door combo only on one side - the other side had only a zippered solid panel door. When you camp on a calm, warm night, it is essential to have a screen behind that second panel door - otherwise the only way you can get good ventilation is to let the mosquitoes in! Not good! We also recommend that this tent be lengthened 3 to 4 inches (and we are of average height). That and a second mesh zippered door would cure the damp sleeping bag foot problem. We would LOVE to have an improved version of this tent, with a second zippered screen/mesh entry door. This would add only a few ounces and the tent weight would still be great for backpacking and canoeing.
