Rated 2 out of 5 by Why is Mountain Hardwear making their newer gaiters so much harder to use? My first two pairs of short gaiters were both Mountain Hardwear Trail Gaiters, purchased in 2005 and 2010. Those were great. Easy to use, durable, kept stuff out of my shoes, and looked good. I had also tried gaiters from other companies, but MHW gaiters were the only ones that fit and functioned well. The next time I needed gaiters, I looked to MHW again. They didn't have the Trail Gaiters or anything short with an under arch strap anymore, so I tried the Seta Running Gaiters with a 3M Velcro type attachment system. Didn't like the idea of having to install a special patch on the heel of my hiking shoes, but gave it a shot. They worked okay and were very light, though the heel patch tended to come off my shoes after a while. Now I have worn those out, and find they still sell the Seta Running gaiters, but they have changed a lot. There is no zipper or Velcro opening, so it is very hard to pull them over my heel, and there's no hope of putting them on without taking my shoes off. The lace hook isn't inverted, so it comes off the laces easily. They have an under arch cord again, but it is much worse than the one on the old Trail Gaiters. It isn't elastic, and there is no convenient adjustment cord lock system. The only good thing I have to say about these is they are made with the usual MHW quality in materials and construction, but that doesn't do much good if the product is so hard to use. Ordering the next size up might have helped with getting the gaiter over my heel, but then I suspect they would have been too big once I got them on. I have returned the gaiters and am planning to order something less than ideal from another manufacturer. Please start making something like the Trail Gaiters again. April 22, 2016
