Reviews

Phantom™ Torch 3° Sleeping Bag (Regular) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The bag that did its job Took this out in the Yosemite back country in the dead of winter to test it out. There were not real reviews out yet and I got this bag in the mail the day I was supposed to set sail so it was a real shot in the dark. But it was on sale for a super 25% off so I couldn't say no. The bag does not pack down very well for a down bag, it packs down to 1 1/12 roll of a paper towel, and about two rolls thick just to give you a guesstimate. The size isn't that bad, as it will squeeze down a bit more when you compress your bag. However what you sacrifice in pack-ability you gain in warmth. This bag was warm down to 5 degrees windchill outside of the tent. At one point I was actually sweating inside of the bag and had to open it up a bit. However that being said please pair this bag with a adequate sleeping pad, as down filling is lacking on the underside to save weight presumably. I brought a liner with me I never had to use too! Side sleepers be wary of this as well, your back side will get chilly at times, I never sleep well in the outdoors and move around a lot so I was able to test out all of the sleeping positions. Side was acceptable but sleeping flat with your back against a pad will be recommended with this bag (I used a Thermarest Neoair- XTherm). The foot box is warm on this bag, but if you got big feet I could see it being an issue, otherwise your feet will fire up just fine when you roll in. On to the Q-Down, this bag is no pushover in terms of its water resistance. I slept in a MH Tangent 2 tent, that has honestly horrid head room and ventilation. That combination left the entire bag crusted over with condensation frost. Some of it melted and not on the bag. Even when the bag had gotten wet the down adequately kept me more than warm. Hands down the Hydrophobic down formula MH uses for this bag was a life saver out in the back country for me. Bottom line, this bag will keep you warm, if the bag gets damp, it should still keep you warm. Pack-ability suffers a bit for a down bag, but its rating and warmth made up for more than that adequately. Please note I used this bag in sub-freezing temps with a two wall-pseudo mountaineering tent, that kept ambient temps a little higher than outside. Buy this bag!
