Summary

Known for its comfort and warmth, the Monkey Man™ is made from Polartec® High Loft™ fleece. We’ve now reimagined it in a sleeker, all-mountain silhouette. One of our most popular styles, we retained its lightweight thermal efficiency and super-soft hand while dialing down the loft for easier layering, less weight and a more streamlined look. Strategically-zoned side panels maximize stretch and breathability where you need it most; they also wick moisture away and make the jacket easier to pack.

Men's Monkey Man™ Jacket is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Jacket is just okay. It's not that warm and everything gets stuck to it. For half of what I paid it would approaching "worth it". I bought it at a higher price and very shortly after price dropped and MH would not match, which added insult to buying a mediocre product at a high end price. Based on quality of the product, a lower price would have been more fair. Avoid the hassles of this fleece and get something significantly better (warmer, more durable and higher quality) for the same price or less.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from disappointing compared to previous model I was replacing a lost Monkeyman jacket from years ago. This new one is admittedly much lighter than the original, but it feels cheap and thin. Hold it up and you can see the light coming through the fabric, it's hard to imagine that will hold up for long (or resist cold winds very well). The side panels look ugly. But the thing that made me return it was the front branding patch. Something about it looks weird to my eyes, eye-catching in a non-positive way. Aesthetically displeasing. So, mine (black) went back...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love at first fit! Extremely light weight, highly insulating jacket Loved this jacket as soon as I tried it on because it's extremely light weight and extremely warm. I am 6'1", 195lbs and the L fits me perfectly. An XL would've been too bulky and long for me as I've found the sizing consistent across their regular fit jackets. Not a wind proof jacket, but not designed to be either--best to layer the MM under a windbreaker for heavier weather. Thus a good fit is important so I would err on a smaller size if you're between two sizes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect mid-weight, mid-layer jacket The Monkey Man jacket is a great fit. Very soft and comfortable. Great for cold mornings and cool nights. It is exactly what I was looking for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice fleece I was looking for a fleece that looks nice, fits well, and keeps me warm. This one is a total match. The sleeves and waist have extra details to make it attach to ones body and presumably stay warm. Although it is warm, it does not keep temperature outside in the windy temperature. A windbreaker is needed. Overall it is a good product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice lightweight jacket Received this today (end of April) so it's really too warm out to know how well it will perform. However, a few notes if you're considering this jacket. It is surprisingly large compared to tag sizing. I'm 6'2" and 180lbs, and the Large size is almost too big. I normally buy XL (where the sleeves are still too short and body/neck too big) or LT (usually better for slimmer fit but sometimes tight in the shoulders), but this is larger/longer than every other LT I've had before. I would almost call this a XLT. The material is also much lighter and thinner than expected, so it may be more of a liner or zip up sweater... won't really know until fall/winter though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great layering piece, or just on its own I was looking for a layering fleece piece to use in the morning when the temperature was below -10C that would go with my Ghost Whisperer jacket. By noon the temperature could be around freezing or just above and I would be fine with just the Ghost Whisperer which is quite fine to -10C on its own. I just like having a fleece piece in between. I am 6'1" and 165 pounds, slim build (32" waist, 40" chest). This piece fits me perfectly, not to tight, not too loose, just in the Goldilocks zone. I really appreciated the help of customer service when I ordered it online. His advice on what size to get was perfect. I bought 2 more layering pieces on the same order. This adds to 2 other Mountain Hardwear down jackets and one rain shell. I love Mountain Hardware products. The mediums always fit me perfectly. I live in Kenora Ontario Canada where we get -40C to 38C, and sometimes -15 to +6 in the same day. You really need to be layered in that kind of weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mid Layer Purchased this jacket with the purpose of using it as a mid layer underneath the Quasar2 jacket by MHW. I've understood Polartech to be a wonderful fleece fabric company so I knew it wouldn't disappoint. I've taken it up on Mt.Saint Helens multiple times as my mid layer, it's light enough to perspire efficiently(thanks polar tech# but also warm enough to keep the terrible Fall weather on Helens out. We spent 9 hours navigating a dreadful white out with pouring rain/snow. Not only my rain jacket stay dry#I love 3 layer jackets) but the mid layer held up through freezing temperatures along with my one measly wool layers while we helped 2 other unprepared climbers down the mountain. This jacket does not do well as stand alone in windy conditions.
