Men's ThunderShadow™ Jacket is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good jacket. Decent features for a jacket in this price range. Fabric seems thin. I question durability issues long term. When cargo is added to pockets jacket doesn't support the weight and sags. But it is water proof and will stop wind in their tracks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fabric and Design - Try On First I chose to buy the Thundershadow after I had an issue with a defective MH Versteeg jacket that I had for a few years. Now I’ve never had any other issues with MH products and I have several MH items that I love. I have to say, Mountain Hardwear’s customer service is amazing – so I was very satisfied when I was granted support for a 3yr old jacket. As a result, I was looking for a sub $200 rain jacket that I could use to hike/backpack with as well as something I could wear casually with business attire like I did with the Versteeg. One of the things that I liked about the Versteeg was its ability to pack down to such a small size. I travel often for work and I am in and out of the weather and airports constantly. So being able to flat back a windproof/rainproof jacket down to the size of a folder and slip it into my briefcase was ideal. Another thing that was important to me was fit and finish, since I often wear multiple layers both camping and for work (shirt/tie/sweater). The Versteeg was a standard fit jacket with plenty of room, pit zips to breathe, and not too much “flare” to look like a walking billboard. Taking those three factors into consideration ($$$, fit, weight/packability) I chose the Mountain Hardwear Thundershadow for my next +5 year jacket. Once I received the Mountain Hardwear Thundershadow, I was excited to see the color and texture of the 40D mechanical-stretch ripstop fabric. Its gorgeous. Its light, packable, and durable. The fabric is smooth and soft to your touch (inside and out) – it looks great. No high sheen or stiff material here – nope, very nice fabric indeed! I was skeptical of the stretch material due to some other fabric that I’ve encountered with a MH competitor – but this fabric is amazing to feel and look. The Thundershadow has zippered hand warmer pockets plus two Napoleon pockets on the chest. I love the chest pockets – perfect for quick access to your phone and small wallet/passport. The handwarmer pockets are perfectly aligned and are quite large. The zippers are waterproof and have a light shine where they were welded to the 40D. Overall, the general appearance, weight, and compact pack meets everything that I was looking for in my next performance jacket. Now onto where I feel the Thundershadow begins to fall short for my expectations – the fit. MH offers several different fits in their jackets (Alpine, Active, Standard, relaxed etc). The Thundershadow is considered a Standard Fit item – so was the Versteeg. I read a review that suggested that the individual was disappointed with the fit and size running small. As a result, I chose to go one size up ( 6’2/250 athletic build) to a XXL vs the Versteeg XL. Even at the XXL this jacket fits snug in the arms, pits, shoulders, chest, and waist. My standard measurements are (18/35 with a 38” waist). I'm shocked - this jacket barely fits me! I haven’t even layered up with it yet, but I’m concerned that if I wear my MH MonkeyMan or wool sweater under --- it’s going to be a “no go” and one will have to stow. I can’t comment on the other sizes, but the XXL fits smaller than expected – which is very disappointing, considering the HM Versteeg XL jacket that was one size smaller and fit me perfectly. Honestly, it fits like what I would consider an "alpine" fit and not a "standard". Mountain Hardwear has definitely changed its sizing compared to what it was just 3yrs ago. So other than fit, this jacket does everything that I want and need it to. It very waterproof from my experience. The VaporDry™ 40D 2.5L Stretch Ripstop Tactel Nylon, is very nice. I live in STL and travel all around the mid-west regularly and so far --- I haven’t been disappointed with the breathability either. A few weeks ago, St. Louis received 11in of rain in 4 days – I was out in my MH Thundershadow two of the four days and didn’t even feel the rain. Literally – not a drop of water on my shirt. Somehow I didn’t overheat or feel the chill – like I was expecting from past experiences with rainproof materials. So I’ve been very satisfied with its capabilities so far. In conclusion, if you’re in the market for a sub $200 jacket – The MH Thundershadow should fit the bill. Its versatile, great looking, feels amazing and supported by the best customer service around!! Just be sure you try one on and find the right size for you. We are heading to Ireland in a few weeks and I am excited to see how it fares as a daily wearer while we are there for two weeks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Issues fit and function The arms on the large are shorter than other MTN HW jackets. My ghost whisperer sleeve stick out past the ends. I have long arms and was hoping this would have similar length to the Ghost whisperer down coat. Additionally the zipper sticks in 2 places when I zip it up so that I can't just hold the bottom with one hand and zip with the other. I will be returning this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great MHW product... Really great jacket. Has the solidly-built characteristics that we've all come to expect and appreciate from MHW. Lighter weight makes it easier to stash last minute in any bag for any trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Look and Feel I still cannot believe it's a rain jacket! This is what I have been looking for in a rain jacket. Lightweight, durable, and breathable all in one. No issues on my latest hike with a continual mist. I plan on taking it to the golf course this week to see how it holds up to the Portland rain.
