Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this coat First off, I'm 6'1" 200lbs and ordered a Large. Fits fantastic with a nice athletic cut. I use this jacket all the time in the Pacific NW. I wish at times it was slightly more insulated, but the weight and thinner feel are amazing. Looks great for casual wear, and does just as well in the great outdoors. Definitely would recommend this coat. Love the style of the hoody as well. April 17, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Super thin but really warm for this professional. I have been having a little trouble figuring out size for Mountain Hardware. I normally wear a large t-shirt. I ordered a medium. In the past MH products in medium work for me the way I want them to fit. It felt a little tight in the back. I will be ordering a large. First and foremost when you get the thermostatic, you will look at it and think - wow, if I wear this in the winter will I freeze to death outside? You will not. It is really warm and also really really thin and light. I found this out the right way but taking it snowshoeing on the lake. It was approximately 20 degrees F out with wind at approximately 5-10mph. I kept a solid pace and had the hood up. I was wearing a cotton shirt (I know, cotton kills) shirt as a base. It blocked the wind well and also breathed enough that I did not sweat. I appreciated the fitted hood for this activity because it kept by ears and large part of my face protected. The hood also did a good job of not getting clammy and breathed the right amount. I will say black looked good, but I did not like how the Mountain Hardware logo was subdued. I like it in white so I can rep the product well. I would also like to see something that does not exist in any product - two Nalgene sized pockets positioned on the back of the product, (Nice having water that does not freeze on a hike). Its a revolutionary idea that would work perfect for this product to increase storage. I will say the fill in the thermostatic is remarkable, just remember this is for activities involving movement. Don't expect this thing to get amazing things for you sitting idle stargazing. February 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Couldn't Be Happier Out of all of my MH gear, I think this little guy will be getting the most use. This thing has lightweight warmth and versatility on lockdown. Thermal Q. Elite is an impressive product. I have read reviews on other sites where people were complaining about the fit of the jacket. The most common being that it is a little billowy in the torso. My advice would be to buy true to your size. I think a lot of people size their garments hoping to achieve a certain look, sacrificing the designed functionality of the piece in the process. When sized properly, this jacket will be one of the most versatile layers you will own, guaranteed. The added room in the torso allows for all of the layering options you could ever need for wearing this as an outer insulating shell. Put on a good base layer, a thick mid, and this on top and you are good to go down in to the teens (Fahrenheit) without any restriction to movement or a claustrophobic feel. Yet the relatively loose fit of the jacket disappears due to the low profile nature of the insulation and fabric when you want to wear it under a shell as your mid-layer. The fit and function of this piece makes it a true 3++ season stalwart. It will be with me on every winter excursion, will reach deep into spring (and probably many cool summer nights), and be the first jacket out of the closet in the fall. As a test, I decided to forego my shell wandering around on a drizzling and windy 40 degree Christmas Eve, and was amazed with just how perfectly it kept me warm and dry. I would not wear it in a downpour, but don't be afraid of a little precipitation. Most of the rain just beaded up and disappeared with a quick shake (rubbing the wet fabric pushed the water through) and there was never any sacrifice in insulation (synthetic!). This jacket was a great investment and is highly recommended. January 10, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Initial Review Hemmed and hawed between the ghost whispere and this jacket. Ordered the GS and got a medium. I am 5'10 size 40 jacket and it was small on me around the armpits. I ordered a large in this jacket and it is a bit long in the arms and in the body but I can layer accordingly- whereas in the GS - only probably a T-shirt. I like the weight of it and the hood and the color. I just felt like the GS was a bit too light for me and perhaps a bit less rugged. But I could be wrong - it just felt that way. This jacket seems to be built for a bit more wearing in multiple seasons and getting wet. All this is caveated with the fact that I have not gotten to wear it all that much. I will post an update after a proper breaking in period. March 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Design This is a phenomenal jacket. It is extremely light weight, gives full range of motion, is durable, and yet still very warm. Packs really well. I'm definitely looking forward to my next winter climbing trip. December 12, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great intermediate jacket It does a great job of stopping the wind, keeps you warm outside (temps of 20s and 30s) but inside it never gets too hot and still comfortable. I always wear it with a long sleeve shirt (tshirt or button up), mainly because when I do take the coat off I don't want to be too cold. December 11, 2013
