Men's Thermostatic™ Hooded Jacket is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't get much better than this This jacket is really something special. It truly does fit the niche of being a light weight and packable synthetic layer that blocks the wind well and provides the right thermal qualities in moderate temps in humid environments. Fit is good and materials are top notch. There's nothing superfluous or wasted in this jacket. It has just the right amount of insulation so that you can wear it alone at temps in the 30's and 40's and still not sweat it out but then use it as a midweight layer when temps drop below freezing. The hood is a bit cramped for my skiing helmets but works perfectly for my lower profile climbing helmet. One caveat.... no joke about the warning labels on it about flamability and heat risks. I'm ordering my second jacket because the first one ended up with dozens of burn holes in it from an overzealous midwinter barbecue grilling event. Keep the embers away from this thing! Not MH's fault at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't take it off This is the best jacket I have ever owned. Insanely lightweight, folds into its own pocket and makes a great backpacking pillow, blocks wind, decent water resistance, super warm when its cold, yet somehow not too warm when its not cold. Best of all, NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS involved, unlike the down counterparts that MHW makes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent insulation overlayer I've owned this jacket for about 2 seasons now. I use it for both ski touring and for climbing. I sized up from M to a L and it excels as an overlayer in both sports in Colorado. At only 10oz, there's very little excuse not to bring it. It weighs less than most hardshells, insulates significantly better, and is very warm for its weight. When skiing touring, I throw it on over my softshell in extreme conditions above treeline, or on colder days for descents. Its held up well and kept me warm through pretty significant snowstorms above treeline, where a down jacket would have wetted out. When climbing, it works great for belaying in the alpine when a big thick down puffy is just too much to carry and deal with. Probably overkill for just hanging out at the local crag, but in colder temperatures, its worked well, here, too. The shell material is thin, so you can't entirely be careless with it, but if you take care of it, it'll still look brand new, like mine does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nailed It... MHW, really nailed it with this jacket. I've had this jacket over a year, and love it as much as I did the first day. For being synthetic insulation this jacket still packs down really small, and weighs almost nothing. This certainly isn't going to take the place of a big puffy down jacket if it's really cold, but it will come pretty close. I've found this jacket to be extremely warm, and block the wind really well. Being slightly more substantial than some other brands synthetic makes it much warmer, and comfortable in my opinion. I've tromped all over the sierras with this thing, and it has held up to some serious beatings. Overall, a great jacket that I would definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprised.... I spent a lot of time doing research into buying a backpacking winter jacket. As a Wisconsinite, I feel like, I know cold. I ride my bike frequently regardless of season. For instance: I rode my bike tonight with the Thermostatic (hooded) jacket in -12°C (9°F) and didn't feel a thing. I find myself frequently sweating in this jacket which shows its capabilities. I love the fit, warm, mobility, and the fact that it folds into its own pocket into a packable volume. This is my first Mountain Hardware purchase and they have secured my business for life. Full disclosure: I have yet to take this backpacking and I WILL re-post my review if this fails to meet my expectations while on the trail. If you don't see another post from me and you're interested in buying this coat....do it. This jacket is a total win for any backpacker interested in mountain hiking, like myself. wow...this sounds like an ad...TOTALLY NOT! I'm a real person and i live in mke, WI lol

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The new gold standard for synthetic Hands down the best synthetic on the market right now. Fantastic warmth to weight ratio and very compressible. The fit is dialed in perfectly and works great under a ski shell. Ski touring in the PNW, EVERYTHING gets wet and this is the best performing insulative piece that I have owned. It creates warmth no matter what the conditions. The fabric is a lot more burely than the ultra light weight down jackets and can be thrown around and abused no problems. This is a great example of solid Mountain Hardwear build quality and innovation. Job well done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Jacket! The thermostatic hooded jacket has great breatheability. It exerts and holds heat very well giving you consistent warmth. This a well balanced jacket. I was thoroughly impressed by the insulation. That is the catch with this jacket! Super light for what it is and not bulky what so ever. At 10 oz. I enjoyed ever bit of this jacket when I'm out and about in the mountains or around town. So far I've only used it as outer layer and it has held up great! Excited to use it as a mid layer in this coming winter. Another great feature is the hood. It is a snug fit that is very comfortable yet NOT annoying. Needless to say, I am a happy costumer.
