Rated 5 out of 5 by Larger than normal, but what I wanted Yes, this jacket fits a lot bigger than the other MHW jackets I have. But, knowing this beforehand is a good thing. I wanted a jacket that my Monkey Man would fit under and both jackets would fit under my rain jacket. I was warm today when I walked the dog in the cold, rain. Now I just have to find some pants for the rain. March 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent This is the best jacket that I have ever owned. February 24, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice Belay Jacket After a recent ice climbing trip I realised I wanted a new belay parka. I had been using a combo of a 60g/m synthetic jacket and an 850+ fill down jacket from another company as my belay solution. These jackets fit over my shell, but the 60g/m solution wasn't warm enough on it's own and with the 850 fill down jacket in place i was barely able to get everything zipped up. When I got back from Ouray the research began and I decided to give the super compressor a chance. The good 1. I'm generally in between a small and a medium. I ordered the small and the chest/body area has enough room to easily fit a base layer, a fleece hoody, a 60g/m jacket and my shell. 2. The Super Compressor is warm and seems to be be very wind resistant. 3. For a belay jacket of this warmth and size it compresses well. The not great 1. The hood could be a bit larger in the neck and chin area. It could also have more coverage in the collar. I have no complaints about the size of the top part of the hood, but more volume around the neck would make it easier to zip the last 2 inches or so when you really want to hunker down. 2. The stuff pocket could be a bit larger. You can stuff the jacket into this pocket, but i worry about the long term reliability of the zipper when using the pocket this way because it is a tight squeeze which puts stress on the zipper. I also wish it had a clip loop that was not attached to the zipper. This seems like a point that could fail and cause issues. 3. I also wish it had a couple of mesh pockets on the inside of the jacket. This isn't a huge issue as I'd generally rather have my lead gloves closer to my body, but pockets are almost always useful. I haven't had a chance to really test this thing in cold/damp conditions, so I can't say how warm it will be when wet, but so far I'm pleased. This jacket is well made and will serve me well. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great value Great for casual or high technical applications. Runs massively though. Size down one full size. January 20, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Fine jacket except for the zipper I bought this jacket to replace a well-worn previous MH jacket with a tough outer shell. I couldn't find similar warm jacket so I bought the super compressor hooded jacket. From day 1, I have hated the zipper. I can't get it engaged about 50% of the tries and lately, the bottom zipped part is going unzipped. I would give 4-5 stars if the zipper wasn't so small and finicky! January 18, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good, but I didn't order a tent So I needed a jacket. Living in Canada trends to be cold sometimes. I purchased this jacket in December of a reasonably warm summer. I received the jacket and found it was a two person tent. Not actually, but this sucker was huge. I'm a bigger guy, and I tend to have to upsize to properly fit clothes. I bought what I normally would, assuming something is advertised as a regular fit. Oh man was that a bad idea. So I returned and I ended up with an extra large that is still roomy but isn't cumbersome. I could probably have gone down another size and still fit, but it isn't worth dropping another 15-20 for shipping each way. That said, the jacket is warm. Not -40 warm, but -20 with a sweater under it will probably be fine. No issues with wind or wet. It's comfy. The pockets are sizable and of a nice texture. I enjoy the jacket. Just... Be wary of sizing for this. January 16, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fit & Function -fits over my softshell without any tight spots. -2 way zipper and a little extra space around the bottom functions well for belaying. - sleeves and back are long enough for good coverage and comfortable movement (this does't always happen in XXL pieces. -no cold spots even when only wearing a t-shirt. - Shark is a nice color, but it's definately not black (grey/brown and colored zippers look orange). It's a nice alternative to black. -this is a piece of gear I expect to be happy with for years to come like my other MHW gear. - hood could use a tie-back and a wee bit taller collar. - an internal wallet pocket with key lanyard may be nice. - embroidered logo/name would be a classier touch. Rated 4 out of 5 by Just buy a smaller size. Perfect except a bit big. December 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quality Jacket I use this jacket as my outer layer every single day. It gets -20 with 30 mph winds by me and this jacket has kept me warm through that. The material isn't too hard to snag and rip but it doesn't comprise the functionality. The fit is a big and long but I prefer my stuff that size. I normally don't write reviews for products but this jacket is practically my best friend so i felt compelled. March 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Jacket Love Mountainh Hardware products and image. Jacket is a mix of black, brown and silver. Sharkskin is an appropriate name. It looks black online. I like the color. Fit is comfortable and warm. A little baggy but when wearing other layers it's nice to have the room. I'm 5'10" 206 with big shoulders. I ordered a large. It's very light. People think it's cool. I really like it too. January 18, 2015
