Men's Spinoza™ Jacket 4.6 5 5 5
Top level performer I've owned a 3-ply XCR hard shell and a PacLite shell from a competitor prior to this jacket, and this one blows them out of the water. Fit: I'm 6'0" 195lbs and wear a 15.5"/35" shirt size, 34" pants. This jacket fits great. Arms are perfect length, hem length is nice and there's just enough room to do a bit of layering. Not a heavy fleece, but for sure a midweight. I'd call it an athletic fit, but not overly so. What I like most about this jacket is how it combines so many great features into one; I no longer plan on purchasing a hard shell to compliment this jacket or even a "daily driver" soft shell, as this one will perform both of those tasks for me. It is incredibly light for it's class, it's got a great, thin lining that's soft and comfortable, awesome waterproof zips, fantastic hood with great adjustability and tons of style as well. I love the extra long pit zips that allow me to really open up if I need to (can be important in NC climate) and the feel of the outer laminate is very cool. The water shedding is gnarly.. granted it's new, but still incredibly hydrophobic. My only complaint is that the pit zips require two hands to operate, but that's only because they're waterproof. So really more of a thought than a complaint. Since this jacket is on the extreme end of protection, I've since ordered the Onata for those lighter days and running in the winter. First class gear, both of them. I'll also add that I have a MHW Ozone fleece that I bought in 2001 that I still wear! Quality gear. September 11, 2013
Sizing This is only in response to the initial fitting not the quality of the Jacket. I have never been fitted for a suit or any other kind of jacket any larger than a 40 so I ordered a medium. In the Spinoza, I felt like I might rip the back out as soon as I put it on. The room around the should and under the armpit was non existent. I tried on an insulating layer to make sure I wasn't wrong, and I could barely move my arms. I wouldn't want to move up to a large because the trunk of the jacket was already on the billowy side, and not the "active" fit as described. June 13, 2013
breathable and durable I am impressed with how breathable this jacket is. The past couple of jackets I have had have been super light, but they have only lasted a few months each. This jacket is several ounces heavier, although still fairly light, but it seems like it will be much more durable. I have had it a month now and it isn't showing much wear. The jacket is well made, and the fabric is durable. I am tall (6'4") and have long arms, the sleeves are (just) long enough on an XL. July 3, 2012
Bottom Line, THE BEST I recently bought this and had high hopes for them. I couldn't be more happy with it. My first trip with it had me bush whacking through scrub oak in rain to the snow line. From there I had a 1500 vertical foot boot pack in rain and snow. From there another 1500 vertical feet on an exposed ridge in the wind and snow. Bottom line, this jacket is the real deal. Never once did I feel sweaty or clammy while resting or powering up hill. May 30, 2012
Spinoza jacket Great jacket with best features that I found anywhere. I like the orange color but I look like a parking cone when I wear it. Great for the high-altitude work that I do. The hood fits snugly with or without a helmet. I overheat quickly and the zipper armpits are great feature. The jacket outperforms the best that REI has to offer. Over time the jacket requires some maintenance. May 7, 2012
