Men's Quasar™ Lite Jacket is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Like wearing cotton.... This jacket wets out at the slightest precipitation leaving one feeling damp. There's a few dark spots on the inside where I suspect the membrane has been breached by water. Probably will not buy MH again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functionally perfect in every way I know this jacket is not designed, nor is it intended for open ocean sailing. I bought for three-season climbing and backpacking. I wore it on a 40-foot trimaran in 35-knot winds and 8-10 foot seas in the Gulf for 48 hours straight after the weather unexpectedly went for the worst. No leaks. No sweat. After the race, I dunked it in a tub of fresh water, put on and went out to dinner. Multiple people asked where I got the jacket, felt the fabric, and commented how good it looked. For backpacking and mountaineering or simply wearing it in town, it will function beautifully.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rain seeps through jacket This jacket is advertised having "waterproof technology" with Mountain Hardwear's Dry Q Elite fabric. I regret to say that this material isn't anything close to waterproof, and that excessive amounts of moisture seep through the jacket after a brief exposure to light rain. I first noticed an issue on a hike using my Quasar Lite jacket as a rain shell over my Ghost Whisperer jacket (which is a great jacket by the way). That day had some light, intermittent drizzles and light misting – nothing a decent waterproof shell shouldn’t be able to handle. When I got inside after about an hour in these conditions, the arms and shoulders of my Ghost Whisperer were saturated with water. I wrote this experience off as some weird fluke, but have been on the lookout since. Unfortunately, the other day, I was able to confirm that the problem is indeed excessive seepage of moisture directly through the face of the jacket material. After less than 10 minutes in a light rain, I noticed my shoulders were wet beneath the jacket. I got inside, took the jacket off, turned it inside out, and inspected it to see what was happening. As can be seen in the attached picture, there is a large swath of material on the shoulder that is dark and wet from water seeping directly through the jacket. Keep in mind this is from less than 10 minutes in a light rain. I find this to be a completely unacceptable level of water proofing to call a jacket “water proof”. I am no longer able to take this jacket out on trips, as I know if I do get caught in some rain it will not provide adequate protection. If you’re just using this jacket to hop from your front door to your car in the driveway, I think you should be okay though, but then again, that’s not what this jacket was designed or marketed for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit. I couldn't imagine a better rain shell. After reading multiple reviews on other shells as well as this one I was afraid that it would run small but I just couldn't convince myself to go with the xl. I'm glad I stuck with the L. The jacket is so breathable that I can wear it with short sleeves, normally I can't stand the sleeves touching my arms when they get moisture in between the coat and my skin, but I have experienced none of that with this shell. The water proof ness is also flawless and it's long enough in the back to cover the top of your butt but short enough to stay out of the way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bulletproof rain Jacket If you are looking for a lightweight rain jacket that will keep you dry..look no further. Nice fitted design - go a size up if you plan to wear something thick underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent jacket and excellent breathability As a fairly new resident of Seattle with winter coming, I was looking for a waterproof, breathable shell that was a 2.5 to 3 layer jacket and decided to try out the Quasar Lite. From the moment I tried it on I noticed how breathable this jacket is. As someone who runs hot and overheats easily, this was extremely important to me. This is something that I have noticed with all my other Mountain Hardware - great breathability! So far I've used it running around town, doing some urban cargo biking with my son, and some light hiking. I'm looking forward to getting it out in the mountains and using it as my main mountaineering shell in the coming season.
