Men's Nitrous™ Jacket 4.5 5 44 44
Great down jacket This is a great light weight down jacket. Warmth without the bulk. It has become my go to jacket. Just wish it had an inside pocket for my cell phone. March 21, 2014
A great light weight down jacket True fit, accurate color match, a great light weight down jacket. Great for in town wear and out on the XC trails or snow shoeing. Very pleased and usual Mountain Hardware Quality. Highly recommend January 9, 2014
Great product, just too big Runs a little large. Even with sweaters and base layers, the jacket was too large. I typically wear XL but had to return for a L. Otherwise, great product from a great company. January 3, 2014
returned it I returned this jacket (xl size) as the fit seems designed for wider midsections. Nowhere near an athletic fit. Same problem with Marmot's down jackets. December 23, 2013
Love Love Love love this jacket. very warm. hope it stands up to me using it every day all winter. December 19, 2013
Poor Fit and Low Loft There's not much to say about this jacket. I'm a perfect medium size in most clothes (6 ft tall, 170 lbs, 40 in reg jacket size, and 32 in waist). This jacket was cut way too square. There is absolutely no taper from the chest to the waist, which looks ridiculous. In fact, the chest was cut tighter than the waist. The loft on this jacket was not as good as another jacket I tried from Patagonia, so I returned it. April 19, 2013
very happy Very warm, and also lightweight. April 18, 2013
Perfect for shoulder seasons The Nitrous wears like a light jacket or sweater. If it's cold out, you'll need something heavier, but it's ideal for mildly cool temps or as an underlayer. It's trim, not bulky. Very comfortable and light. I'm 5-11 and 160 and the medium fits perfect. March 22, 2013
Warmth without the puff I am 5'8" and 170lbs. I ordered the medium and it feels a little tight in my upper torso during certain activities but otherwise, it fits great. "Shark" color is a dark charcoal grey which appears black on the site, classy color. I had to update old, super puffy Sierra Designs down sweater and this is almost as warm. March 18, 2013
nitrous jacket This is my second nitrous jacket. I gave the first to my son, and now I wish I hadn't. The fit is slightly larger in the current version. Moreover, the new version lacks a breast pocket. I really miss that pocket for storing my phone and wallet. March 10, 2013
Nitrous Jacket For the money this jacket is great. It is light enough to use as a mid layer but warm enough to wear alone. March 6, 2013
Warm but frays quickly This jacket is extremely warm. It has been my primary jacket since Christmas in Pennsylvania. It has gone down to about 18 degrees and this jacket keeps me very warm when out walking the dog. The problem is the neckline has become extremely frayed. The quality just seems very poor. Nothing is scratching against the jacket in the area where it is fraying. There are other areas on the jacket that have become open and allow feathers to come out. March 4, 2013
great light jacket This jacket is very light weight and seemed to thin to be very warm. I have worn it for about two weeks now and it is a great jacket. It is much warmer than I would have thought. Put it under a second coat of any kind and I can go out in very cold and windy weather. February 24, 2013
Great Jacket I returned the 'Ghost Whisper" jacket, a little to 'shinny' for me, and got the nitrous. Have not 'tested' it yet but for skiing and around the town in cold weather it is great. I am sore it will perform well. February 21, 2013
Nitrous Jacket A very light jacket that is highly compressible, good fit, with enough space for layering. Surprisingly warm for its weight. February 15, 2013
Nitrous Cool Water I love the jacket, love the color, I had somebody ask me if it was an old coat, very cool retro color. Cool Water, perfect for both warm and cold, just not rain. February 1, 2013
Awesome jacket! I have the Nitrous vest and loved it so much I bought the jacket. Very lightweight.....extremely warm.....well made. I would def recommend this product! January 29, 2013
Good jacket. Bought this today at the Seattle store. Am using this Mountain Hardware Nitrous jacket as a insulation layer under our work uniform. I work in emergency response services. We are constantly running around outside, inside or in strange places like garages or basements -- or on rooftops ... or in the wilderness. This jacket has about 10-12 ounces of 800 fill down with a medium micro-puff styling. The collar is also short which is great for our purposes and doesn't get in the way. Am wearing the jacket now testing it on duty and it is great. Will recommend to our other officers looking to stay warm in the cold. Plus, it's light and breathes well. On me the XL size is more of a coat because it goes down below the waistline. January 26, 2013
light weight but very warm My husband does not light things that constrict his movement or bulky things. He loves this coat because it keeps him nice and warm without all the bulk of a regular down coat. Great coat! January 23, 2013
Men's Nitrous An excellent lightweight down jacket for the money. Putting it on is like living in your own personal ecosystem, so warm, but light enough that it doesn't feel like you are wearing anything at all. Fits a little bit small, I'm a large and XL fits well. Needs a hood! January 15, 2013
Nice Coat I am very happy with this coat. It's lightweight, warm and looks good on. It does fit just a bit on the small size (maybe a half-size) as someone else noted. I am usually a medium and, although the medium probably would have worked, the large fits well and isn't too big. The color (red) displayed online was true to the actual color of the coat. January 14, 2013
Excellent down sweater I bought this for layering, but it is great all by itself, even in winds up to 30 mph. I'm 5'10" and 150 lbs and a medium fits perfectly. January 3, 2013
Great Jacket Batman! This is my first Mountain Hardwear Jacket and I will definitely be buying another one in the future. I was a little worried about it not being warm enough because of how light it is, but i've been very impressed so far. Thanks and keep up the great products! January 2, 2013
sizes run small I normally wear an XL and they are comfortably loose. This XL fit like a L, should have gone with XXL December 25, 2012
Either on me or in my bag, always. I use the Nitrous both for the outdoors and around town, it's a multipurpose jacket in my kit. I own the older hoodie version, but the jacket is principally the same. Incidentally, I do like the sizing of the hood. The material is strong and comfortable, and weight is good. There is a good amount of fill to trap heat, keeps me toasty in cold weather. The chin guard is a nice add, i've been burned with other jackets. I am able to wear the Nitrous under my shell or even over it, if I need quick warmth on a cold summit. It also makes for a great pillow. I would suggest the elastic cuffs could be made tighter on the wrist. The pits often get warm while moving. It might be interesting to experiment with the material used in the pits of your Drystein jacket to help regulate that. The Nirtous is a great jacket, I am very happy with it! December 12, 2012
Nitrous jacket I will keep it simple...love, love, love! My mom bought one last year, I just bought one for myself, now my daughter-in-law is getting one for Christmas! My son got us interested in this item because he has had his for a few years. No bulk and keeps you warm without being to warm. I live in the midwest and I can put just a light weight shirt on under it and it still keeps me warm! November 25, 2012
Good jacket Coldest I've worn this jacket so far has been at about 50 degrees but so far it seems warm and comfy. If you're one to get cold easily this probably isn't the jacket for you--go with a thicker jacket like the Kelvinator. For my purposes this is perfect, and I absolutely LOVE being able to stuff this jacket into its own pocket. Very handy. Just FYI if you're going for Deep Water, the color is a little brighter in person than it is in the picture. Like a darker/more subdued turquoise. October 26, 2012
Great Jacket Excellent, functional, lightweight, warm and all around do everything jacket. June 4, 2012
Feathers Everywhere I love the jacket and it has a great feel on... However it sheds feathers. It leaves feather on everything i wear under it. Also the elastic in the cuffs were so loose I had to have my son sew them tighter. It should have came with a adjustable velcro cuff. April 22, 2012
Great spring or fall jacket Super light weight, this is a perfect jacket for moderate temperatures. Not for cold winter use however. I would definitely recommend as a hiking layer as compressed it takes almost no space at all! April 4, 2012
Pricey but Good Quality Being 6'2" and 170lbs, the large fits a tad wide and short. It also doesn't pack up as small as the MontBell's light weight down jackets (which are also cheaper). Yet this competitor's jackets ripstop material is dainty and doesn't feel long-lasting. This material is strong, the 800 down protects you from wind gusts (on its own) and is essential in the snow/ice (under a shell jacket). Reliable, never overheats, and dries quick. March 13, 2012
Great Jacket I love this jacket. Perfect under a parka while skiing. Drop the parka if it warms up mid day. Zips into its own pocket to stuff in a small corner of your pack. Not a deep winter outer layer but impressively warm for it's incredibly light weight. Trim but true fit. Snug in the shoulders. I've gotten a compliment on the jacket nearly every time I've worn it. A great piece. I'd absolutely buy it again. March 11, 2012
Nice jacket.. I'm a big guy at 6'2' 300 lbs with wide shoulders.. This jacket fits AMAZING in the shoulders and the cut is great, the length is great in the arms but its just a little tight in the stomach.. All in all a great jacket, i'm a snowmobile guide in Yellowstone and bought it for a layer under my main jacket and works great.. February 24, 2012
Down filling The Nitrous is a great fit for my 6 foot frame and long arms. It is light and easy to pack. My only concern is that it sheds down every time I wear the jacket. February 12, 2012
awesomely light and warm I work as a bike guide in Bolivia, and start my day at 15,400 ft. The weather is often snow or rain, on days like that it's in the 30's (F), On warm days it's in the high 50's. I layer it with two long sleeves and a jersey. On warm days I add just this jacket, at 40mph completely comfortable, and don't feel the wind. The only time I need a shell is when there is precipitation. I have used it in light rain and snow and it does a great job of shedding the moisture. When it starts to rain much past a mist I grab my old rain shell. a little water gets in and the nitrous still does great job of keeping me warm. Since I got this jacket I have stopped taking my heavy MH down jacket. Around town I wear a wool t-shirt with this over it, and am completely comfortable in the 50's. hot in 60's. it does let a feather loose ever now and again, but that is expected from a jacket this light. Bomber. February 9, 2012
Kick in the Nitrous for toasty comfort What sets this jacket appart from other manufacturers is the fit for me. I'm a shorter guy 5'6"and the cut of the Medium is perfect. I've owned similar down sweaters from Patagonia, Western Mountaineering, and Montbell and this is the best by far. Great fit and finish on this jacket. January 31, 2012
Great Jacket. Love this jacket. It is very warm for the light weight. This one is always in my pack as a extra layer as it does not take up any room. Glad to see zippers on the pockets of the new ones. January 8, 2012
Awesome I absolutely love this jacket. Extremely warm and more durable than I expected. I love the fact that it is stowable in the front pocket and I cannot wait to get this thing out on the trail this year! December 31, 2011
Feels Great This jacket feels great and keeps the chill off well into the evening. I use it in Afghanistan and find no issues with it. If you are borderline small/medium like me, definitely go with the medium, as the shoulders run to the small side. December 29, 2011
Light and Warm Provides very light weight warmth. Good for all but the coldest weather. I wear this under an Omni Heat shell...the Sawyer's Creek Jacket around town. December 28, 2011
Nitrous Super jacket. Wanted it to fit a little snugger so I could wear it under my shell when riding and pack it down small in my pack. Amazing how much warmth this jacket packs into such a light package. Love it. December 15, 2011
Great Jacket, but room for improvement. I absolutely love this jacket. It is extremely warm, comfortable and just looks sharp. I wear it often and in varying temperatures. This jacket can be worn over a T-shirt or a sweatshirt depending on your need for layering. It is very light weight and easy to manage. This is my first true down "puff" jacket, as I am not a fan of the puffy marshmallow man look. But this jacket is perfect, it is not overwhelmingly puffy and remains under control. Also, I don't find it to be much of a problem, but I feel it fits rather slim, propably to control the puffyness. I imagine those with larger frames may find tightness issues when zipped up. My only complaints, I really enjoy a nice inside pocket, which this jacket lacks. The only pockets this jacket had are 2 zip external pockets that get the job done minimally. Lastly, I had a large feather poke through the jacket. Hope this won't happen again. November 27, 2011
nitrous jacket I usually wear size XL and ordered a L and XL - the L seemed to fit better then the XL although XL would have worked. I kept the L. The jacket is surprisingly warm. I had to take it off after a few minutes inside a house that was around 60 degrees. The color is vibrant and you feel cozy in the jacket. It reminds me of the first down jacket I purchased years ago, when there was more down in jackets. Fits like a glove. I purchased it to wear as a layer under another light jacket since we travel a lot to the East Coast and never know what the weather will be and don't want to carry heavy jackets unless it is deep winter. I also sent one of these to my brother who rides motorcycles. November 27, 2011
Best down jacket in my gear closet. After month's of stealing my partner's Nitrous jacket I felt it was about time that I got my own. At first I thought I would be getting one just like his but this new version has quite a few subtle tweaks that go a long way. For instance the material feels slightly lighter, but just as durable, and the down is so incredibly soft. They say it has feather content in it, but I sure can't feel them. Just lots of fluffy little down clusters. In addition to this the non contrasting stitching of the logos and the ability to zip it into it's own pocket making it incredibly attractive and easy to store. Everyone who goes outside for the fun of it should own one of these. August 26, 2011
