Men's Nitrous™ Down Jacket 4.6 5 66 67
Really wanted to like this jacket I really wanted to like this jacket. Everything I read about it was positive. However, I didn't get a chance to really test it because the sizing was so awkward. Let me preface this review by saying that I own 2 other Mountain Hardwear jackets (Plasmic and Mountain Tech) both in a size Medium, that fit me perfectly. I love everything about them, and I will definitely continue to be a MH customer for life. Unfortunately, the Nitrous Jacket in a Medium was WAY too big. It fit like a Large or XL. I sent it back and ordered a Small. I could physically put the Small on, but the range of motion in my arms was seriously restricted, and the waist barely fit around my hips. I am 5'11" and 165 pounds with a 32" waist. I wear a Medium in every shirt and jacket I have ever purchased. This jacket just didn't work for me, which was super disappointing. I'm sure the quality is top-notch...and, as usual, customer service was incredible! January 5, 2015
Perfect for its intended use! I needed a super light warm layer for ski touring and rescue work. This jacket has performed to my expectations! Also stoked on the cut, sometimes MTNW products are a cut a bit snug for me around the shoulders (I'm 5'5" 150lbs) but the small has ample room for me and sleeves are good length. Hard to find good fitting clothing at my size. January 2, 2015
Love this jacket I received my jacket last week, so I haven't gotten a lot of use out of it yet. It fits like a glove (Medium). I am 5'10" 180 lb. I work at a company that makes a competitor (850 fill Downtek), and I could have gotten 40% off ours, but I loved the color (slate) and the longer length of the Nitrous. The look is great— It actually has a slimming effect, if that's possible. December 19, 2014
Light weight and very warm This jacket is fantastic, very light weight but it will definitely keep you warm. We have had a couple days with negative windchill this fall in Indy but this jacket did it's job. Very impressed by it. It also will compress and stow into one of it's pockets which is a handy feature. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for warmth without the bulk. December 4, 2014
My brother lives in Bozeman, Mt My brother lives in Bozeman, Mt and currently it's -5 degrees. I bought this and a thermal jacket for him, which he hasn't stopped praising me for. This jacket is, in his words, "phenomenal." If you live somewhere cold, or your a women, and your always cold, buy this jacket. You'll love it. Disclaimer: Make sure it fits first before you buy it. Great down jacket This is a great light weight down jacket. Warmth without the bulk. It has become my go to jacket. Just wish it had an inside pocket for my cell phone. March 21, 2014
Should have bought this a long time ago I live in the Seattle area and had been getting by with lighter coats (and a generally good tolerance of cold weather) and falling back to a giant marshmallow coat I picked up somewhere along the way when the temps got close to freezing. While the big puffy coat I had was warm enough, it's also really huge. The Nitrous has a great snug fit (I'm 5'11/165 and wearing a small), is almost unbelievably thin and kept me warm over just a t-shirt to the point of almost sweating on a 2-mile midnight walk with the temps around freezing and full humidity. The quality seems good, though I'm also projecting from how my other Mountain Hardwear gear has held up over time #I have a 5 year old daypack that I take everywhere, every day and a 6 year old shell that shows virtually no wear and was my primary jacket for about 3 years). This was a really great purchase, I find myself chuckling at all the others in their giant coats. February 19, 2014
Best fit and performance As someone who sells outdoor gear, I know quite a bit about what to look for. For months, I was searching for the right down jacket to improve warmth both in day-to-day and in my backpacking excursions. A warm, tough, quality down jacket isn't hard to find--every brand has one. Finding a warm down jacket that fits well is tricky. Finally, I stumbled upon the Nitrous by chance and tried it on. Love at first sight. Unlike a lot of competitors, it doesn't bulge in the sleeves or body but fits comfortably for most guys, and I'm not ripped or anything, just a pretty typical 6' dude who can do a few crunches. Also, we recently got snow where I live, and it was right after my Nitrous came in the mail. Perfect weather to test it out. The nylon shell resists hard precipitation such as snow no problem. And the warmth is out of this world. I highly recommend! February 17, 2014
Great Jacket I wore this jacket hiking up in NM in late fall. It was in the high 20s and I stayed very warm. February 6, 2014
Nice fit and more importantly- warm! I bought this coat because of the freezing weather we have been having. It is very warm and fits great. I ordered an XL (around 5'10 with an "athletic" body which means I used to be an athlete and now I'm just a little stocky). The coat is very light and warm. The pockets are large and the zipper is quality. I had a thicker fleece before and the wind whipped right through. This coat keeps me warm even in windy weather. The only issue is the lack of inside pockets to hold a phone or something else. Still worth the price. February 6, 2014
