Men's Nilas™ Jacket is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lightweight Down Jacket I’ve found that the Nilas Jacket is a well made warm jacket perfect for subzero to below freezing, wind driven temperatures when hiking/backpacking in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains of NYS. I ordered an XL and found it to be slightly over-sized, but I can comfortably add a layer (when rarely needed) and love that I can throw the jacket over a hard or soft shell after reaching summits to stay toasty warm. At 1 pound-8 ounces, its weight-to-warmth ratio is perfect for my adventures. Its outer fabric repels wind very well and its baffle construction never leaves me feeling any cold spots. Two sizable external pockets and two large internal mesh pockets provide plenty of storage for various sized gear. I also like the small internal angled zip pocket which is perfect for small, flat items. While it’s been noted by other reviewers that the front zipper snags, I found that by slowly moving the zipper up or down, and slightly outward, little potential exists for snags. Also, a little zipper lube helps. The jacket's adjustable hood and waist draw cords are easy to adjust due to what appears to be flat-button/barrel (or drum type) cord locks, which are a first for me. They’re nicely hidden inside the jacket’s fabric, are easy to find and can be adjusted when wearing different types of gloves. The “butter jersey” cuffs are soft and warm with or without gloves or mitts. The jacket complements my MH Absolute Zero and good old Chugach insulated pants well; I’m never cold when continuously outside for three and four day trips. I absolutely recommend this the Nilas for anyone in need of a warm, quality hooded down jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Nilas Jacket I bought my Nilas Jacket 4 years ago and I found it to be as warm as advertised. It is true to size and excellent in quality. When I developed a problem with the zipper, the company gave me a new one, no questions asked. I would recommend this Jacket to any outdoors person and to anyone wanting a warm coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm My girlfriend and I lovingly refer to this jacket as "Warm". Coming from alpinism in Alaska and now in Colorado we invested in this sweet belay parka. Packs super small due to the down fill, comes with a stuff sack, excellent features. A slightly heavier face fabric than the Patagonia Fitz Roy, and even more down. It doesn't get much better than this guy. The cuffs in the sleeves are nice with little thumb ports. Double zipper is great for belaying. Hood is easy to adjust. Simply the best bomber parka that wont shred on any snag. Zipper operation is a little tricky with the draft tube, but pulling up and left leads to no snags, and without the bulky draft tube, there would be A Draft. Waterproof zippers are a nice touch, plus MHW uses that sweet down treatment that keeps the melting snow from making your parka wet. Worth the investment

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing option for warmth I am an avid climber and enjoy the cold elements. I have climbed several of the tall peaks around the world. I enjoy and prefer a down option however, I do have some synthetic options. I found that I was missing an option of down warmth between the whisper or nitro and my absolute zero parka. The Nilas is amazing. It is lite, compressible, and packed easily into a day pack. Its warmth is amazing. Here in the NW we have lots of weather along with wind and cold. We have had a significant winter so far. I have worn the Nilas and a baselayer all day in 15 degree weather not taking into consideration of the wind chill factor with winds in the 20 mph range while skiing. Climbing is great. The pack seems to fit over/around the jacket just fine and I don't feel confined or restricted. This is a solid jacket between the whisper/nitro and the absolute zero. I can now do the winter climbs with a baselayer, fleece, whisper, and nilas in a multitude of variations and remain warm and safe and at the same time keep my pack light and with less gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm not sure there is a better jacket out there. Like my title says, I'm not sure there is a better made jacket out there. This is easily one of the best jackets known to man. I live in Indiana; it doesn't get super cold but roughly 10-30 F. In the winters. Sometimes colder. Anytime I wore this jack, my upper half of my body ramained toasty. My lower half, I was underdressed so this coat is not to blame. If you are looking for a jacket for which there is no need to layer unless you are going into below zero, this is the jacket for you. As others have mentioned, I'm not a fan of the zipper however, it's worth the trouble when you take the pro's into perspective. Do yourself a favor and purchase this jacket. I assume I'll be holding onto mine for life. The durability is there and I foresee this jacket lasting me until my older ages. I'm 6' 0" and weight 175: Medium was my choice. Fit's perfect. (I'm a little more broader in my shoulders then most, this may be good to take into consideration).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a fantastic product, unquestionable performance. This jacket is like wearing silk armor. While I admit the zipper catches, it only takes a little practice to avoid snags. For those complaining about zippers, know what you are buying and the intentions of the designers. As another reviewer said, this is designed to be extremely light and maintain high quality and function. If you slow down and learn to zip properly you will not have any issues with durability. If you want a jacket you can be a bit more scrappy with go with something more rugged. There is no question about the function. There is no heat-up time. From the moment you put it on it's warm. It compacts well to minimize on luggage or pack space. I bought the Nilas for working in the Mongolian Gobi Desert winters this year in very, very cold conditions day and night, a few times dropping below -40. Never once did I feel a bite of cold. I can't wait to get it in the Rockies, Andes and Himalayas later this year! The size fits just a little bit large but this seems intentional for extra warmth cushion. I tried on my fleece and other various layers underneath and never felt too tight or restricted. I am very critical of my gear and will get rid of something that doesn't function exactly the way I expect or need. This jacket is a welcome and permanent addition to my arsenal of outdoor recreational and protective equipment. Don't hesitate to make this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warmest Jacket I own Exactly as the title says - it's certainly the warmest jacket I own. Being for wiping away the bitter days and being able not only to be comfortable in them, but actually enjoy those days instead. I'd definitely recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Functional with structural issues I wanted to love this jacket...but couldn't Pros: Very Light weight but very warm. Thumb hole cuffs. Packs / unpacks really well. Cons: Main zipper sticks on fabric every zip; Very frustrating in the dark or in a hurry. The body of jacket isn't fitted well. Im 6'2" 220 lbs and XL was way too big in the body but the sleeve were spot on. Return was simple - I will try again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great heavy down jacket I picked up the Nilas originally in Shark and love it so much that I've ordered it in Slate Orange too. The soft interior cuffs are phenomenal and I'm looking forward to taking this jacket to Ireland this coming November when I visit the Dingle Peninsula. The fit is "true" in that I am 5'11" and weigh 196. I wear a size 41 R sport coat but have a 35 sleeve, so the Large is perfect for me and the cut is full enough that I can have an additional layer on underneath it without feeling like my movement has been restricted. Plus I am not one of those type of folks that likes to have their jackets form fitting: I like to layer rather than rely upon any single piece of clothing to keep me safe from the elements. Better to layer than anything else. And as such, I can easily fit my Monkey Man Grid jacket underneath my Nilas jacket and have unrestricted movement while at the same time comfortably wear my backpack. One thing about the zippers. Many dislike the zipper and feel that it takes away from the overall quality of the garment. I disagree. If you're in a rush and just grabbing the zipper and yanking it in an upwards directions, yes, it will snag. But if you're able to grab a hold of it and pull up in a simple straightforward manner, 8/10 times the zipper will not snag at all. But as another reviewer wrote, and I am the same way, I treat my down products with great care and do not tend to beat them up either. But keep in mind also, if you're expecting zippers on a jacket that are say similar to those found on the Absolute Zero Parka (which I own and love), then don't expect it to be designed with input from Ueli Steck, as I'm sure those kind of zippers would add more grams than he'd prefer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, packable, breathable Great jacket, I have been very pleased. It packs pretty small for the fill weight, and is pleasingly light. Most importantly, it is a cozy shelter- I last donned it in sub-freezing temperatures and 45mph gusts, and I was as snug as a bug in a... I was very happy, even as the wind was knocking me over. I have a few little quibbles- the zipper is not the easiest to connect with gloves, the thumb holes in the wrists are a little small for the base of my thumb- but they are truly minor. The front hand pockets are also very warm, and comfortably positioned. My bare hands are still warm enough in the pockets, even in the worst of weather. I have limited durability feedback as I am exceedingly gentle with down products. The fabrics are no less durable than my other down clothing, but I do not expect it would tolerate heavy abuse well.
