Summary

Known for its comfort and warmth, the Monkey Man™ is made from Polartec® High Loft™ fleece. We’ve now reimagined it in a sleeker, all-mountain silhouette. One of our most popular styles, we retained its lightweight thermal efficiency and super-soft hand while dialing down the loft for easier layering, less weight and a more streamlined look. Strategically-zoned side panels maximize stretch and breathability where you need it most; they also wick moisture away and make the jacket easier to pack.

Men's Monkey Man™ Jacket is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great layering piece, or just on its own I was looking for a layering fleece piece to use in the morning when the temperature was below -10C that would go with my Ghost Whisperer jacket. By noon the temperature could be around freezing or just above and I would be fine with just the Ghost Whisperer which is quite fine to -10C on its own. I just like having a fleece piece in between. I am 6'1" and 165 pounds, slim build (32" waist, 40" chest). This piece fits me perfectly, not to tight, not too loose, just in the Goldilocks zone. I really appreciated the help of customer service when I ordered it online. His advice on what size to get was perfect. I bought 2 more layering pieces on the same order. This adds to 2 other Mountain Hardwear down jackets and one rain shell. I love Mountain Hardware products. The mediums always fit me perfectly. I live in Kenora Ontario Canada where we get -40C to 38C, and sometimes -15 to +6 in the same day. You really need to be layered in that kind of weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mid Layer Purchased this jacket with the purpose of using it as a mid layer underneath the Quasar2 jacket by MHW. I've understood Polartech to be a wonderful fleece fabric company so I knew it wouldn't disappoint. I've taken it up on Mt.Saint Helens multiple times as my mid layer, it's light enough to perspire efficiently(thanks polar tech# but also warm enough to keep the terrible Fall weather on Helens out. We spent 9 hours navigating a dreadful white out with pouring rain/snow. Not only my rain jacket stay dry#I love 3 layer jackets) but the mid layer held up through freezing temperatures along with my one measly wool layers while we helped 2 other unprepared climbers down the mountain. This jacket does not do well as stand alone in windy conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly Warm Although the Monkey Man fits more like and extra large than large, the jacket is very light and very warm. Love the high collar. Very pleased.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wouldn't recommend Product is very drafty and doesn't keep the chilly air from passing onto one's skin. Overall, I am very disappointed with this product and would not recommend it. I will be returning this product after the holidays.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not true color First, I have over 20 articles of clothing from MHW and love them all. This jacket is crazy warm and true to fit. BUT it is sage green, not grey. Returning cause the color is way off. I wish the color description was more accurate. Large was perfect for 6'4" 195 lbs slim build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing Like It Up front, I just received this and have only worn it for about three hours straight, including right now. Purchased the Thunderhead Gray color in a medium. I'm 5'11", 175 lbs., wiry upper body. Two things off the top, first, the Thunderhead Gray color is more like that of stirred up ocean water. Think Hawaii, not Outer Banks. In other words, in person it's more of a crash between blue and green colors. Second, the arm length is a pinch longer than what you might be used to. The elastic cuffs hit the top of my palm as opposed to my wrist. This doesn't bother me b/c you can tuck the cuffs under or if you're wearing gloves, the length will ensure that there's no gap between your gloves and your wrists. Regardless, something to keep in mind. As for the jacket, there's just nothing else like it. The fleece is unbelievably soft; it feels like down. One huge advantage here is that the loft is ultra smooth which makes putting this on over shirts an absolute breeze. This is critical for me as I absolutely hate when a fleece or fleece-lined soft-shell catches on my shirt while I'm putting it on and bunches the shirt up. That is not an issue with the MM. Did I mention how light it is? The image that keeps coming to mind with the MM in terms of softness and weight is a feather. That's what it feels like and that's how light it is. Will be easy to pack and drag along with me on my travels. I'll update this review after I take it hiking a few times, but I don't need to do that to realize that it's going to fare well in the ease of movement department. The side panels and bottom hem stretch with your movement but retain their shape. My only question right now, in terms of hiking/outdoor functionality, is how well, if at all, will it react when I start sweating? Lastly, this thing looks awesome. Definitely stands out from the crowd of Better Sweaters and Covert fleece jackets. Those are great products too. Just saying this is unique and great looking. Also it has two zippered hand warmer pockets and something I consider to be essential which is a zipped Napoleon chest pocket. Just by one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from NO "interior pockets" ! I chose this style over jackets because of the claim it had "multiple interior and exterior pockets". I had presumed that "interior" meant within the interior of the jacket. I should've considered there might be some marketing semantics in play... The jacket only has the pockets you can see in the picture: exterior-accessed chest and hand pockets. There are no other pockets, interior or otherwise. Keep that in mind when trying to decode product descriptions!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from More of a Monkey Man Light The classic Monkey Man jacket is the defining Mountain Hardware garment. Soft, warm, and super comfy. When I saw this, I wanted to try it to have a second one. This one is not near the same. It is more like the Monkey Man Light. It's fuzzy but a leaner cut, and thinner. It is much thinner material, no where near as thick as the classic. Hold up the classic to the light and very little light shows through. Hold this one up and a lot of light shines through. It is soft and seems to be a reasonable lean cut. I am 6'4" , 190lbs and where a 16/35 shirt. In a Large this fits pretty good with arms that are long enough. I do think the neck could be cut a bit trimmer as it has some gap. Guessing it's a 19-20" neck. The wrists could be tighter and softer too. The zippers are still YKK but a smaller model than in the past. Not sure if that's bad or not. All in all I think it's more like a sweater or heavy shirt than a jacket. Being thinner it should layer well. Looking forward to cooler weather to wear this in my layering system. And as another review said, the gray is not gray at all - its more of a blue green. Nice looking color but do be aware it's not actually gray. I would love to see MH bring back the true classic. If your competition can keeping making the same 300 weight jacket for 25 years, you could keep making the classic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable I have slight mixed reviews about this item. Please be aware that thunderhead gray is actually more of a tarnished copper look. Imagine gray with a slight bit of blue in it. Light blue of course. It does not look gray whatsoever so keep that in mind. Also, the hand cuffs are too big just like last years (for me personally). I have to spread my hand out to keep it from sliding down my rist. It is super comfortable and I feel it would be good for when the cold comes. I am 6' 0 and 175 lbs and I chose a large. It's a bit big however I don't think a medium would fit me. I have pretty broad shoulders.
