Men's Mixaction™ Jacket 4.4 5 5 5
Love This Jacket! I am highly impressed with this jacket. The combination of hard shell and soft shell materials creates a very powerful outer layer with superb breathability where you need it, and great waterproofness where you want it most. It is an extremely purpose built garment with a minimalist design that accomplishes what it was designed to do admirably without any frills. My only gripe with it would be that if you are using it for anything other than ice climbing with a harness, the zero frills design (no hand warmer pockets, tiny inside zip pocket) can leave you looking for a little more. This is more than acceptable given the fact that some of these features, if added, would detract from the overall performance of the shell. The fit of the coat is great, snug through the torso, long for added coverage, with great mobility. You barely feel it on you when being active. That being said, I have very broad shoulders and there is the tiniest bit of pull along the seam between the hard shell and soft shell across my chest. This concerns me a little about how the stitching will hold up through the years, and the last test will be how long this coat stands up to the test of time. The materials have shown no sign of wear in the short time I have owned it. All in all, I love this jacket so far. I give it four stars on function instead of five only because it is SO purpose built that it becomes a little too minimalistic when used even the smallest bit outside of it's intended purpose. If you are using it solely for what it was built for it is five stars all the way (minus the fact that you can't happily fit even a modern key fob in the zippered inside pocket). December 21, 2014
On the right track I think the torso fit is superb under a harness, chest pockets are a great size and very accessible. I would prefer some more stretch out of the upper waterproof material, but could make do with how it is. My main gripe though is with the hood, I found it pretty hard to fit it comfortably over a helmet. When doing so, I could barely move my head, the fit was so tight. In addition I would also prefer a slightly taller zipper, it stops mid neck (I think it would be nice if it went to the chin or so). In conclusion, I think the choice of material and overall tech-fit is good for ice climbing, yet I would make it more helmet compatible, by either changing the hood fit, adding stretch or both. Great Fit! Not 100% Waterproof This jacket is the best fitting jacket I could ever imagine. Just as the product description reads, it does a great job keeping the shoulders, hood and arms dry. My only negative comment about this jacket is the deceptive description about the jacket being waterproof; the body of the jacket is NOT waterproof despite it being in the "rain jacket" category. The product description also was vague as to not address the fact that the body of the jacket is not waterproof - highly deceptive. Regardless, I recommend this jacket to anyone that is looking for a great, appropriately tight fitting feel as long as they are not looking for a true rain jacket. This jacket is perfect for small storms, but not for Portland, OR's harsh rainy weather seasons as an everyday rain jacket. October 28, 2014
Great ice climbing jacket I spend three weeks on Iceland. I got this jacket just before this trip. After two days of climbing I decided that it is the best jacket I ever had. I was wearing this jacket every day for the whole three weeks. Simple desing make this jacket light, is stretching well and keeping me dry even in wet conditions. February 24, 2014
Best hybrid shell I’ve used! This is a no frills shell which is clearly built well for performance with minimal extra material so fitting a harness and or bevy layers over it are easy. The stretch material and slightly longer arms made it perfect for a recent ice climbing trip of mine. In addition to being a great shell for climbing the form fitting style and breathability of the material made it ideal for any approach with a ruck, when you rock this thing it almost become like a second skin, MH you guys did a great job with this shell!
