Men's Ghost Whisperer™ Hooded Down Jacket 4.8 5 41 41
Amazing Uberlight Puffy The Ghost Whisperer was my “insurance” down jacket on Denali—an uber-lightweight jacket that I could pair under a hardshell to keep me warm during cold weather movement, or with a bigger puffy to keep me toasty at high camp.It fits amazingly well, packs small, and doesn't leak down. first time shopping for a med weight jacket First off I am 6ft 4inch 280lbs. and the jacket fits super fine for me as I got the XXL do to the fact I enjoy the freedom and space. I use my drystein over this jacket with a expedition weight wool base liner and all is well.uses for the jacket are light mountain hikes, and ever day use as a med weight jakcket in winter. Thus far the jacket has met all the talks I have read here on the reveiws site,my only complaints are dull down the colors a bit! too shiny of a black color for me but function comes before glamour. I have not yet have had the chance to test the warmth factor at any thing lower than 40 degrees thus far but living in Colorado I feel my reveiw on this matter will be posted up soon. All in all money well spent! lives up to its name, very soft and yes you some times you forget you got it on if it were not for its shiny colors that remind you its still there.GREAT JOB MOUNTAIN HARDWARE! keep up the great work. Great Jacket Just used this jacket on a 6-day trip to the Utah backcountry. The jacket was light, warm and comfortable. I especially enjoyed the hood when sleeping. Definitely a great piece of gear. For size: I am 6'1'' 220. Normally I wear an XL. I tried an XL on and it fit okay, but I chose an XXL because it gave me more room in the shoulders. April 8, 2013
Best Jacket Ever This jacket is absolutely the best jacket I have owned. Wore it this weekend to climb Mt. Washington and it worked to perfection. It is wind proof and very warm. If you are looking for a super light weight but warm and windproof jacket look no further. I am going to buy this for my wife and will purchase other ghost whisperer products to help lighten my load. My favorite new piece of gear Ultralight, compactable, warm, and comfy all in one jacket! Can you guys at Mountain Hardwear make me a blanket out of this jacket material? This jacket is a perfect compliment to the drystein II jacket. When you combine the two you have warm, dry, and windproof. Which makes me one happy camper:) When in doubt get the Ghost Whisperer with the Hood! February 25, 2013
Super Light and Warm Great jacket. Super light and warm. Sizing seems to be true. The only thing that would have made this jacket better would have been an internal pocket. February 23, 2013
Top quality It's amazing something so light can be so warm. In 20* F weather I've been able to stay warm with only a t-shirt underneath. I honestly don't have a single complaint about the jacket. The fit is perfect in length of jacket and length of sleeves. February 16, 2013
jacket has no equall super light, great design. always designed for function , and exceeds expectations. I bet you can not find a lighter, warmer jacket! February 7, 2013
Dream Jacket Bought this jacket for my son. He had another similar jacket which was 4 years old that he wore out. The fit was perfect- large( he is 5'9"- 170lbs , the color-Capri wasn't his first choice(he wanted black but they were sold out) but he loves it. The weight is out of this world- light and he packs it in its own pocket. It also keeps him warm especially on the cold, windy streets of NYC. I'm even considering one for me. February 7, 2013
A little too large in the Belly Pro:Since purchasing this jacket I have used it for backpacking, car camping, and traveling all over the bay area during winter. I can attest to it keeping me toasty with a light rain shell when temperatures fall a few degrees below freezing. The fabric is much more durable than I would have expected. Obviously: incredibly light, takes some getting used to before you can trust that something so light can keep you that warm. Part of warmth we're used to is weight, of which this has practically none.Con:I'm a big guy (6'2", 190lbs) and got the large which is perfect for length in the arms and torso but there is way too much room in the belly area. I can pull out the stomach almost twice the diameter of my waste . This isn't ideal for style or keeping warm. It seems like a company focused on supplying athletic people wouldn't put all that extra space in the stomach, or at least offer a "tall" size. Again I'm by no means a skinny guy, but it's definitely too roomy. February 4, 2013
Best Jacket Ever I thought that I was taking a chance on this jacket when I purchased it: how warm could it really be, given the weight and amount of fill? I've just spent a week with it in Stowe, VT, wearing it in town in temperatures down to about 10ª with just a merino base layer and a cross country ski shirt (wind layer and very light fleece). But it is unbeatable as a lightweight packing item. It is incredibly warm, incredibly comfortable, and incredibly versatile. Stuff it down, put it in a fanny pack, and off you go. February 2, 2013
This jacket is amazing I received the jacket a couple of weeks ago and have worn it in -2 to 12 degree temperatures with only a base layer underneath. The jacket was amazingly warm considering it's light weight. I would highly recommend this product. February 1, 2013
Biggest Bang per ounce! This Jacket per ounce is the best I have ever experienced.Riding a Vespa around New York with this Jacket and a t-shirt underneath at 40 degrees F is comfy! My lower half gets cold in jeans before my torso and arms!I do get a little nervous if a dog jumps up on me because the fabric seems frail, but havent had any snags yet. January 30, 2013
WARM and DURABLE!! My fiancee and I both have the hooded version. Incredibly light and warm. I wear mine alone or as the insulating layer under my drystein II. Incredibly outstanding combo or alone. Just finished the Old Rag hike in VA Sunday. Lots of minor to moderate bouldering and sliding across granite and there was absolutely no sign of tearing or chafing at all on the Ghost Whisperer. I was very shocked at how well it performed slding on granite for 45 minutes. I'm 6'4", 215 and purchased the large and it fits perfectly. The Radiance color is amazing and matches perfectly with my black Drystein II. I couldn't be happier with a jacket. Even collapsing it down into the pocket is quick and easy and incredibly convenient to stuff in my small camelback. January 22, 2013
Men's Ghost Whisperer™ Hooded Down Jacket Although the jacket was much thinner than I expected, it was amazingly warm as a final layer in very cold weather. The very best feature is the ability to stuff the entire jacket into one of the front pockets and easily stow it into a day climbing pack. Whether I'm ice climbing or rock climbing in cold weather, I'll have it with me.KC BaumAMGA Certified Rock Guide January 17, 2013
best lightweight jacket for any weather I love how light this jacket is. The fact that I can be in freezing temperatures and have a t shirt on underneath while still keeping warm is awesome. Then once I go inside to a place that is normally kept at a regular temperature all i have to do is shed this one layer and I am back to comfortable. Awesome product for most any climate. excellent jacket I was first surprised by how shiny the jacket was out of box as well as how lite it really is. I laughed when I read a prior review that they thought MH had sent them an empty box, but then had a similar experience. Not a fan of the excessive shine to the material but I am getting used to it.Fit: true fit. I am 5’11’’ and 180 athletic build and large fits great. Nice fit with room to layer. The hood fits snugly around the face with no brim and no drawstring. Comfortable but in high wind the hood may not stay in place. Haven’t tested that yet so for me it has been excellent so far.Warmth: Again I was surprised at the jacket. I tested it several time in 29-30 degrees. I don’t like to be cold and I get cold fairly easily. I wore only a tee under the jacket and it kept me warm. This was right at the edge of my comfort zone. I was not cold but could feel the chill outside the jacket. I think it could easily work at much colder temps with a light fleece shirt under.Packable: Not much needs to be said here. Yes its light and yes it packs into its own pocket and yes I am a huge fan of both. Every time I take it to somewhere cold in the morning and pack it up people are always shocked and asked to check it out. They can’t believe how lite it is.Durability: I was pretty skeptical about durability due to the lightweight fabric. Keep in mind I have worn it carefully but here are a few things it has gone through and still no tears or sign on wear. I wear it hiking and around town regularly but I have also worn it in the rain, jumping out of an airplane (with a parachute ☺ the jacket does not make you fly, but it does keep you warm at high altitude and in high wind) and have also deployed with it to Kuwait. So far it is holding up great and no sign of wear. It also does not show the typical signs of shedding down. I have seen one or two pieces of feather come out the whole time and that was within the first few days of use, none since then.Overall: I love this jacket. It works great. Getting used to the shiny material but it is definitely bright. Performance is better than I expected. Great piece of kit. January 5, 2013
A true marvel I bought this jacket for use in Beijing, where the winter cold really caught me by surprise. I was looking at many different brands of insulated jackets, but seeing reviews from an online hiking gear experts' review site convinced me to give the Ghost Whisperer a shot. This is the lightest thing that I've ever owned, and yet it is stunningly warm. The material is good quality and doesn't feel like it will rip. It really manages to block out cold/wind well. For when it rains or has heavy snow, I think just a shell over the top should suffice. For the purposes leading me to make this purchase, this works perfectly! January 4, 2013
Color me impressed... When I first took this jacket out of the box, I was prepared to send it right back. No way could this thing provide the advertised warmth. I decided to give it a shot anyway, and I was quickly proven wrong. By itself, over a t-shirt, this thing keeps me toasty down to about 20F. Below that, it is the best mid-layer ever. Highly recommended.I'm about 6' and 180lbs. The medium fits about exactly right, but I wouldn't want it much smaller. If you're any bigger than me, go for the large.I got the black and I agree with others, it is pretty shiny. Kinda looks like you're wearing a trash bag. Worth it for me, though. January 3, 2013
My favorite piece of gear! I purchased this jacket to add to my backpacking gear for my summer high-altitude trips in Colorado where the temperature often falls 30 degrees or more after sunset. I must admit I was apprehensive about buying this online because I was concerned about how well it could really insulate when it weighs under half a pound. Wow... what a great decision!! It is impossibly light weight, comfortable and warm... yes warm!! I am also happy I went with a hood as it adds great wamth to my head and neck for the additional 1/2 ounce of weight. I find myself wearing it around town in Denver in the winter and even use it as my airport coat. Once I get to the airport, I simply pack it into its own pocket and stow it in my computer bag. Although I care more about utility, I have gotten a lot of compliments on how it looks too.I am 5'11" and 166 pounds with unusually long arms, so I went with a large. It fits me great! I hope MH decides to made a Ghost Whisperer Vest too; I will buy it!Thanks MH for another industry leading product! December 25, 2012
Flexibility This is an excellent must have layer for cold weather and supporting an attempt to climb higher. It is lite and compact yet warm and comfortable. When alpine climbing one needs to pack lite in total. This layer supports ones layering system for warmth and at the same time is lite and compact. Up here in the northwest we see a lot of significant cold weather of variety. This layer withstands it nicely and without compromise. December 25, 2012
just ok worst fitting jacket for me made by MH. I always wear a M and have 7 MH jackets. On this its a little wide in the body and cuffs are big on hands. That said, its a pretty nice jacket. You will not believe how light it is until you hold it yourself and of course super packable.I like the stuffed jackets like the sub zero myself but this is still a good jacket. December 12, 2012
Good Product When i took it out of the bag it came in, i was surprised how, thin and lite the jacket is. I was concerned that there is no way it can be as warm as advertised. Well now that i have tried it in 28F, i must say i was impressed. I was comfortable in it. Still waiting to see how it does in high wind, but so far i have been very happy with it! December 11, 2012
Ghost Whisperer Down Hooded This jacket is amazing. Lightest jacket I have ever held, and also very warm. Am a little worried about it getting wet, but that is what a waterproof shell is for! Packs down to a very small size. The fit runs a bit large. I am usually a medium and I got the small and it fits perfect (5'10'' 165lbs). Couldn't be happier with my purchase. Buy this jacket. December 10, 2012
Essencial for Travel This is a great Jacket. This will go on many travels and adventures with me. I can't believe it weighs less than 1/2 a pound. It stuffs into a small stuff sac. It takes so little space that I stuff it into the extra space in my book bag or computer bag. I will have this one for a long time! December 5, 2012
Am I actually wearing a jacket? YUP and it's awesome I did a lot of research before buying the new Ghost Whisperer hooded down jacket. I have been a long time fan of MH, but also really like First Ascent and Patagonia so this was no easy decision. It all came down to form and function.Hands down, no other jacket touches the lightweight + warmth combo that the Ghost is putting out.I'm 5'11" 190lbs and got the medium. I would give it a 9 out of 10 on fit. The length is great, the arms are great, the shoulders and back are great but the mid section feels just an inch or so too big. My main purpose for this jacket was a layering piece for skiing and general backcountry use. I wanted a light, warm layer that I could fit a base layer and mid layer underneath but still be slim enough to wear under a form fitting shell. It absolutely accomplishes this. Not bulky what-so-ever.Plus is packs so small (into its own pocket) that I can stash it in my bag for an extra back-up layer and not even know its in there. Until you hold this in your hands, you won't fully grasp how light it actually is.I also know that it will be great for those cool mornings in the spring fall while belaying.Bottom line: buy this jacket. The Whisperer is a wonder My order was never processed after I purchased online. Two days after the order was placed, I called Customer Service and they apologized for the inconvenienced and proceeded to place the order through their system. The jacket then took 13 days to ship, which was very disappointing. The jacket fits wonderfully, its incredibly lite. I did notice that some seams started fraying in multiple places over the first week of wearing. I plan on heavily wearing this jacket for the next ten years! December 3, 2012
XL is massive I ended up sending this jacket back as the XL size was massive, just very big all around. I am 6' 220 and typically wear an XL. The arms in particular seemed about 10 feet long. The fabric is also much 'shinier' than the image on the site. November 26, 2012
Ghost Whisperer Bought Jacket through Internet, delivered after two days to US-adress(!). Fits perfect.Main use: all year multi purpose jacket and as a mid-layer under shell jacket for boating in the cold season.Fantastic as traveling companion as well; almost no weight and no size!Highly recommended! November 19, 2012
Impressive Jacket Great jacket. Lots of warmth in a small and light package.Packs down to the size of a Starbucks Grande Coffee Cup.Went for a two hour hike in the snow with just a t-shirt under this jacket. It was about 25 degrees out and lightly snowing. I had to partially unzip the jacket during the hike. When I got back to the truck there was unmelted snow collected on my shoulders despite me being warm; great insulation.I've also worn this jacket in light rain showers and it sheds small amounts of moisture quite well, though I would recommend layering with a nice shell if you are out in any heavy rain.I'm 5'7'' 145 lbs athletic build and the small fits me almost perfect; when reaching forward with both hands the jacket is a little tight under the armpits and across the back. The medium was way to big for me. Other than the tightness the jacket fits perfect, loose enough to use as a mid layer with a light fleece underneath and a rain jacket on top. Arms and jacket length are plenty long enough.I purchased the Steam color and get compliments on it often. It's very light but not fragile.Want to buy another one to keep in my fire pack! November 16, 2012
Amazing fabric! The Ghost Whisperer fabric is freaking legit. I have this down jacket the pullover shell. I love both. Of course since its ultralight you have to be careful with it but I have no worry that this will last. This jacket using the 850 fill is genius to be able to pack into its own pocket easily then to still be warm! I just wish mountain hardwear would keep getting more into the light weight trekking gear. Seriously make a 20 degree quilt using this fabric on the outside then some thin ripstop on the inside! That would seriously be awesome.... Thanks MH! November 16, 2012
Great Jacket As this was my first down jacket, I was worried it wouldn't be warm enough due to how lightweight it is (it literally feels like you have nothing on), but so far it's been fine down to the high 30's with a rain shell over top.The fit is perfect in the shoulders, chest, and sleeve length, but it could be a bit slimmer in the mid section. However, it's by no means overly bulky. The quality seems very good, although I haven't put it through any rough use yet. The fabric feels like it would probably rip easily if caught on a tree branch or something, since it's so thin and light. November 15, 2012
Very light weight ...! Very warm.. This is an amazing item very high quality.I still can't believe houw light the jacket is and how warm. November 15, 2012
Featherweight Down Jacket The hooded Ghost Whisperer is about the lightest insulted jacket of this style on the market. At just over 7 ounces, it's a great addition to my ultralight kit. It's spacious enough to use as a layer over other other insulation, while compact enough to fit under a rain shell. It stuffs neatly into one of two zippered handwarmer pockets. A thin bungee drawcord at the waist keeps out wind. No drawcord on the hood. The exterior shell (mine is black) has a glossy finish. November 5, 2012
Excellent 4 season jacket Living in a mountain community in Colorado, I purchased this jacket to serve a variety of roles. These include a mid-layer in winter, a primary layer in fall/spring, and a night-time layer for camping or emergency overnights at high altitude. It perfectly suits all these roles. My size small (I'm 6' 170lbs) weighs in at 7oz on our postage meter, and compacts down to 8.5x5x3" in its own pocket--no stuff sack to lose! I have been comfortable in it in the 30's with just a t-shirt on underneath. The hood fits nice and snug, and layers underneath my gore-tex shell hoods as well as my snowboarding helmet.Great jacket. Elegantly simple design. The only drawbacks I've found are 1) for sleeves listed at 33" (again size small) which is my measured sleeve length, they do ride up a bit when I extend my arm forward, and 2) the ultralight fabric is a bit shiny and not what people are used to seeing.Definitely still 5 stars in my book. October 20, 2012
great, but colors not so much... So this jacket is great! I have a 44 inch chest and wear a M. But I like a more snug fit and not baggy. Packs down and is super super light. Everyone is amazed how light and warm it is!Here is my issue. The colors! The "orange" is more of a yellow, the blue is totally a girls color, and the black is a shinny black, not a normal matte finish. Online the colors look perfect but in person, I'm not a huge fan! October 13, 2012
soooo light This jacket is fantastic! Great warmth, super packable and extremely light. Usually with these ultralight jackets you expect them not to be particularly durable because of thin stitching and whatnot, but this jacket seems very well built and the fit is right on point. I haven't tried to climb in it because it is likely too warm, but to throw on at belays its perfect. My one criticism would be that the stuff pocket is a bit of a pain and not worth the time to stuff and remove at every belay. easier just to stuff it in your pack. Otherwise no complaints. First "Winter Jacket"- Awesome! Like I said, this is my first winter jacket. I lived in Texas and South Carolina before moving to DC, so take this review with a grain of salt. This jacket is so warm, and SOO LIGHT. I can't believe how light it is. I honestly thought they had shipped me an empty box. I was worried about the size because I'm 6'0, 185 lbs. Usually, a large has too short of arms and too short of torso, but an XL has too wide of a torso (I wear a 16.5x34 button down, if that helps anyone). I ordered an XL in this, and it fits great, except the torso is just a little wide. BUT, I kind of assumed this would be the case. I got the yellow, hoping it would be less bright. It's not. It is very yellow/orange, but I like the color. Overall, I can't believe how light and warm this thing is. September 18, 2012
Light as a Feather - Literally When I first took this jacket out of the box I couldn't believe how light it was and had to hand it off to some friends to make sure it was real. I have worn it up to the mountains in fall inclimate weather and was blown away by how warm it is. The combination of warmth and weight is honestly groundbreaking. I have similar jackets from comparable companies but none can touch this one for weight and function combined. This is my new go to. Amazing technology! September 16, 2012
Core warmer Awesome piece of gear. Part of my core equipment. September 8, 2012
This is really great product woowoow.what can i say.i was waiting for this jacket long time.its reallly light weight and packable too.its worth of money. August 27, 2012
