Men's Mountain Tech™ Jacket 4.8 5 51 51
Best fleece on the market Who doesn't like a fleece jacket? This one beats the competition easily. You can't find another fleece with the same features as the Mountain Tech. You can even wear it in light rain without getting soaked. January 29, 2012
Love it!! Finally had some nice chilly weather to test this jacket. Very warm for a lightweight jacket, but best of all it completely stops the wind (unlike my Denali fleece). Love the fit, and the easy stretch material does not constrict when reaching or climbing. Watched the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain in late October and was perfectly warm despite some very high winds and cool temps. October 24, 2011
Solid Workhorse I have had this jacket since it was first put on the market several years ago. It is just now starting to fall apart after almost continuous use for about 5 years. It's been one of the greatest investments I have ever made in my life. I am short and stocky and wear an XL. I still have enough room for mid-weight thermals and a Pendleton wool shirt or a thin fleece. It is not a stand alone. When I lived in a rural cold mountainous area it wasn't warm enough Dec. to Feb. I wear a Mountain Hardware shell over the top when it rains as I live in the Pacific Northwest now. I love it so much I am still wearing it raggedy and all. I haven't decided if I'm going to upgrade or buy the same one again since my hard shell still has a lot of life left in it. May 21, 2013
Out of this world classic! This jacket is a classic that should be part of any outdoor enthusiast's gear. From casual to extreme hiker, or from someone who makes a living working out in mother nature to life on the town. This jacket looks good, has as solid of materials as they come, blocks the wind, fits well, and allows great range of motion. While working on wind gust mountains to chilling and damp offshore islands I basically lived in this jacket. Wouldn't trade it for anything! May 12, 2013
Excellent Jack of Most Trades Great fit, good cut, the material is better than any regular fleece, it's somewhere between a fleece and a jacket. Some might not realize, but the lighter segments of cloth are just fleece with a cloth backing. The fleece itself is a very dense high quality, and the segments of darker fabric (is this nylon?) are very wind resistant - I was surprised at how little air gets through. The jacket will get you through light showers, and the underarm vents are great for keeping cool without having to take the top off. May 10, 2013
Men's Mountain Tech™ Jacket Excellent jacket! This is my second purchase of the same item. My first generation Mountain Tech Jacket was a bit too short, I appreciate the extra length in this new generation. My only complaint is that I miss the internal pocket. May 6, 2013
The only fleece you need This is my second one of these jackets. The other one finally started falling apart after 6 years of hard use in the forests. The newer models (I purchased my new one in 2012) seems to have longer arms than the old one which is a great improvement to an already excellent jacket. It's a little heavy for spring and fall in the Southeast US but perfect as a winter coat down here. I'd recommend that you pick one up. April 13, 2013
supurb i wear this jacket in fall and springgreat pocket location to warm your hands while climbing and tuff enouph to rub against rock. March 30, 2013
Great jacket Probably the best jacket I have ever owned; ready to purchase more from Mountain Hardwear. March 16, 2013
Great Multi-Use Jacket, City(?) -> Mountaineering This is the second MH Mountain Tech jacket I've owned - the previous one used the Goretex WindStopper coating as opposed to the new AirShield windproof fleece. This new model jacket fits me perfectly, with room for a midlayer underneath if warranted, but I use it with just a long sleeve wool baselayer if active. I am 6'1, 165lb.This jacket performs great for hiking and mountaineering down to about ~30/35F. I've always used mine like a pure soft shell, even for climbing - particularly because the arms and articulation points use soft-shell material that prevent me ripping the jacket to shreds on the rock. Windproof with minimal insulation means I'm not cold due to wind but not overheating either during an ascent with much more freedom of movement and comfort in the body due to the fleece. My only qualm (reason for lack of five stars) is that for low activity or casual wear the new "AirShield Windproof fleece" breathes too well. The Polartec WindStopper in the previous model kept me warm whether in the city or mountaineering but required venting with the pitzips under any active use.The "AirShield" definitely moves the jacket into a better performing category for active use, but lessens casual use down to temps ~50/60F with high wind. February 27, 2013
Great layering garment Very nice, high quality fleece jacket. Fits nicely without any bulk. This is the second one of these that I own. The original one was the older style which was nice in itself. The new model is nicely improved. It will be a casual-wear jacket. I wear the original one as a interior layer underneath my wool hunting clothes and it is perfect for that because of the lack of bulk. Highly recommend this item. February 15, 2013
Great Jacket I love this jacket. I was a little indecisive about the size though. I am 6'0" and about 170 lbs. I got a large and felt that the extra large would be too big. My arms are long so I was trying to decide if the large would have enough coverage on my arms or not. It does. I would not recommend wearing a large sweater or sweatshirt underneath though. I think the garment is made to wear with lighter clothing to make the jacket functionable. Blocks the wind wonderfully. January 28, 2013
Great looking coat! Love how it looks and it has performed well. I am a big guy and the xl fit great. January 15, 2013
Incredible overall jacket! My son wanted/received this jacket for Christmas and he wears it EVERY day! Great all weather jacket! He even put the sleeve under the faucet and could not believe how the water rolled off the sleeve and did not penetrate! The best jacket ever! January 5, 2013
It's Fair Looks great but fron zippered pockets are a little high and difficult to get into. Desing could be better. I would recommend but at a lower price January 2, 2013
Great Jacket This is a great jacket. I love that it is windproof...which makes it much warmer than a standard fleece jacket. The softshell panels make it extremely durable. The fit is great too. I'm 5'8", 190 lbs with a 42" chest, and I got a size large. December 31, 2012
Best Jacket I own This is far and away the best jacket I own. I've had this jacket for over two years now after trying similar products from different brands and the difference is night and day. This jacket actually does stop wind, does stop water and is very tough and durable while being pretty warm too. It is the first jacket I grab when heading outside for any reason. I've taken this backpacking in Norway, use it when I ride my bike in the cold weather in Chicago and just for everyday use too. Truly a great jacket, you won't regret buying it. December 20, 2012
Great fit Soft and comfortable to wear. Fabric moves well. Was worried about fit, being an older guy, but fits great with just enough room to fit another later underneath when cold. December 9, 2012
Great Jacket I have had this jacket for about a year now and love it. Didn't think that I would like the high side pockets but they work great. The jacket is warm fits good and looks great! This is my go to jacket for day hikes or just around town! November 21, 2012
Another Great Jacket This is the second MT Tech Jacket I have in my kit and this one is great. At 5'8" and 160lbs the medium fits great. Sleeve length is spot on and roomy in the waste to wear a vest under this one. November 11, 2012
Men's Mountain Tech Jacket I have a Moutain Hadrware Gortex jacket and this jacket is everything I expected after just a few weeks October 29, 2012
Thanks for Leaving off the Velcro (really) The absence of Velcro on the cuffs was a big selling point for me. The 'pit zippers' are great. If the front pockets had been dropped lower, the jacket would be perfect. It would be great if MH had some variant of this jacket with lower front pockets. This is an excellent jacket for layering. It fits slightly large, but I got the size (XL) with layering in mind. I'm 6'2, 200 lbs. October 10, 2012
Excellent Piece The Mountain Tech Jacket is an excellent piece that combines style with function. It truly is wind proof, and I was very impressed and surprised by its water repellency. Well worth the higher price point, and a substantial upgrade from something like the North face Apex or other Jackets of this Genre. The stretch and comfort is outstanding. You won't be disappointed. October 8, 2012
Amazing Jacket Have only had this jacket for a couple of months but I can already say with confidence that this is the best fleece I have ever owned, without a doubt. Awesome features, and it feels like it'll last a decade. I am 5'11' and about 170 lb.s and a medium fit me perfectly. May 16, 2012
Great jacket! This Jacket is awesome! Completely windproof as advertised. I ordered a XL and I usually wear a large. I feel a large would have been a tad to small. Not a lot of insulation but the windproofness makes up for it. Besides, it is perfect for a layering so order a size up. Jacket is great. Looks great too. only thing I wish it had is a pocket or two on the inside. March 7, 2012
The go-to jacket Spring, summer, fall, and much of winter, this is my husband's go to jacket. The fleece is warm enough for most moderate days, he usually only breaks out an insulated jacket if the temp is below 35 F. Keeps the wind out, great for casual wear. Really nice looking jacket. My favorite thing about MH men's jackets is how they fit. My husband has the classic V shape (bigger shoulders and chest, narrower waist and hips) and lots of jackets are just too tight on his shoulders. This is his second MH jacket because of how well they fit. He is 5'10" and sleeves and body length is just right. He maintains full range of motion and doesn't have to think twice about his jacket's ability to handle whatever he throws at it.Highly recommend the Mountain Tech jacket. February 15, 2012
Close but no cigar! This is a decent jacket but could be the best with some alterations from Mountain Hardwear. First of all, I am 6'-0" and a lean 215lbs and decided to order a large as I thought the xl would be too big in the waste. The L seemed to fit just too snug for me and seemed tightest under the armpits and my wife said the overall look seemed too small and too short. I ordered an XL and it seemed too big around the waist and the sleeves seemed too long. Wearing a fleece under the jacket makes it fit a little better. Mountain Hardwear could make major improvements to this garment to make it the best fleece jacket on the market by doing just the following. Incorporate a velcro closure on the sleeves for people to make subtle adjustments. Lastly, Lower the pockets from under the arms and place them more toward the front so it is easier to access keys and the like. February 9, 2012
Mountain Tech is "Best Fleece on the Market" When shopping for a new fleece this Fall, I compared the Mountain Tech to similar fleece jackets from North Face and Pantagonia. I went with the Mountain Tech and am very satisfied. The exterior of this jacket is a combo b/t material MH calls Airshield Fleece and Deflection Softshell. The Softshell material is in all the right places -- along the shoulders and sleeves -- which makes this jacket a step above fleece-only competititors. It's touted by MH as being "windproof, water resistant and air permeable". I've worn it with only a base layer in temps down to the 20's ... lo and behold, it blocks the wind; rain water beads up, and it seems very "breathable". At only 1 lb, 6 oz's it's light enough to wear as a mid-layer with my MH hard shell in really cold temps. The Micro-Chamois material along the collar is soft on the chin when it's zipped all the way. Best Fleece on the Market! February 3, 2012
Best Jacket Ever Owned This is the second jacket I bought in this style. My first jacket lasted 9 years when while wearing it as a daily wearer, snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, and camping. I could not have been happier with how it performed in all the tasks I put it up to. January 30, 2012
Amazing as always This is my second jacket. The first was old gore version which i got 11 yrs of abise out of. I am not easy on my gear and tje last on held up to everything i threw at it. After having recieved my new one today i couldnt be more thrilled. The fit is better, the fleece is softer, it's lighter and super stylish. The last one saved my butt at tue top of Mt Washington, NH when the weather turned foul and i look forward to many years of use and abuse from this one.Mountain Hardwear, over the last 15 years you have earned a lifelong customer and never fail to please! Thanks for the killer products! January 20, 2012
Great jacket I bought this jacket last year to by my "winter" coat in the northwest and it has not let me down. For anything above freezing, it's great and its water resistance and wind-blocking material are incredible. It fits a little bit bigger than I was expecting, which is nice because you can get some layers underneath it. I took it out backpacking in the Olympics last winter and was actually a bit too warm, but the under-arm zippers let you air out nicely. My only downside is that, like all fleece, it doesnt pack all that small, but it's definately worth loading into your backpack and having in camp. It also looks quite good when you're just wearing it around as well. Overall, an outstanding product. January 19, 2012
Great Jacket This is a great jacket. It is true what they advertise about being windproof. I was recently in the NE and wore this jacket everday in 20 to 30 degree temperatures with wind and felt totally comfortable. I would recommend this to anyone. January 17, 2012
Everything is great except the zippers I just ordered my second Mountain Tech jacket due to zipper failure on the right pocket. I've also had to fight with the main zipper but overall, I love this jacket. It's warm, light, and looks good. January 14, 2012
Very good service and Product Really great product. Great customer Service! I ordered this Jacket before Christmas and picked economy shipping, to make sure the Jacket got to my house before Christmas they moved my shipping to priority with no charge.Perfect Jacket for windy places :) January 11, 2012
Awesome Fleece Jacket I retired my Denali for this jacket. It is lighter, but more importantly it is windproof. If you wear fleece much, you know that is very important. I also love the attention to detail. like the inner cuff on the sleeves and being able to access the pockets with a pack on. January 8, 2012
Men's Mountain Tech™ Jacket I travel a lot and in the short time since I purchased this jacket it is awesome. It fits perfect its lightweight, warm and blocks the wind. I love it so much I might buy another. January 6, 2012
Windproof and comfy Just as advertised and really like the jacket fit and look. The only weird thing is how high up the pockets are to put your hands in...just looks funny up by the ribs. Definitely windproof though! January 2, 2012
Great jacket I use this jacket on those windy days while out fishing and it has performed great. The windproof really keeps the wind out and its a very nice looking jacket. I LOVE IT! December 23, 2011
No better jacket in its class This is my second one (actually my third). My first was stolen by an airline staff member so they clearly liked what they saw. It was my favorite jacket of all time so I bought another. Everyone who sees it ends up buying one and this last one I purchased for a gift. It is comfortable, warm, wind resitant and very functional with great pockets in terms of size and location. If you wear large get yourself an XL. Almost all of the Moutain Harware product is cut more tightly because it is technical wear and not designed to be baggy since that gets in the way. I like to layer under it also and if you don't buy up a size you will not have that option. I will always own this product for as long as I live and as long as they keep making them. Never thought I could fall in love with an article of clothing or a company the way I have with Mountain Hardware. I now own approximately 30 items. December 21, 2011
Awesome light weight warm jacket I initially purchased this because my other fleece jackets are thick and do not do much for the wind. Once I recieved this and put it on it was a perfect fit, snug but not tight and had room for layers underneath. It was nice an snug up against the body and I could easily add another coat over it. But the real test was when I went outside to put some stuff away and it started snowing with wind. I zipped the coat up all the way and I was snug on my top half. I also own the Mens Lacerta coat which is really warm too but you combine the two together and i honestly think I will never be cold...ever. December 12, 2011
Great Jacket!!!! It has been in the low 40's, windy and misting (and raining) for 2 days straight and this jacket took it like a champ! The air shield elite technology is awesome. No notice of the wind at all. Kept me dry as well. Great fit. Plenty of room to move. Highly recommended. November 29, 2011
I returned a Northface Danali to buy the Mountain It was time to buy another all purpose hiking coat, so I bought an old standby, a Northface Danali. When it arrived in the mail, it was just not right. After sending it back, I purchases the Mountain Tech. It was a great decision! I am a hard core hiker, I have done the entire AT, done hundreds of miles in the Sierra Nevada range in CA, gone for several week long treks in the Himalayas. For me, the right product is all about performance. Things like wind blocking, and good ventilation, easy access pockets, overall comfort, and long-lasting durability are critical. On every dimension, this product has met or exceeded my expectations. It's the right tool for very cold, windy, weather. It's flexible and meets a variety of needs. In short, I would recommend this jacket to everyone. November 29, 2011
Excellent product This jacket is very effective as a windblocker. I read other users' reviews before purchasing my jacket, and I have found them to be truthful. With an additional layer (or two) this jacket is as warm as you want it to be. The black jacket is very sleek and will work well with anything you wear. I work in law enforcement and frequently wear this outdoors while on the job. November 28, 2011
Excellent all around jacket I purchased my Tech Jacket back in 2002. The Wind Stopper construction is amazing. I have worn this jacket every fall, winter and spring since. It's light weight enough for any task but warm enough to go with just a long sleeve t-shirt in cold, windy winter weather...and yes it gets cold here in Tennessee and up in Kentucky where I lived until last fall. I wore it while running a news paper routes in some of the coldest weather we'd had in years and it always kept me warm. It has held up remarkably too. I use Tech Wash and TX.Direct or ReviveX and Sport-Wash to clean and restore the water repellent ability and the jacket just keeps lasting. Honestly, I am thinking of getting a newer jacket just out of boredom. At this rate, I'll be able to pass it on to the next generation before it gives out. November 26, 2011
Perfect I have to admit i'm not a big "coat" person but living in Ohio forces me to give in. The MH Tech jacket is absolutely perfect for me. With its light weight size and warmth I couldn't ask for anything else in a jacket. They weren't kidding about the windproof claim, was wearing it on my motorcycle the other day on a 50 degree day and it kept me nice and warm. Keep up the good work. November 21, 2011
Make Your Legs Jealous (Until You Get the Pants) I've been scoping this jacket out awhile and finally pulled the trigger recently. Hands down the perfect fit is a huge reason I love this jacket. Too many jackets out there large sleeves that were made for an orangutan. I'm 6'1" 200lbs and the large is right on money. The collar protects your neck without making you look like a member of Devo (see Whip It).I held off writing this until I could actually test the windproof claim, but after this weekend I can vouch for it without hesitation. I was impressed...and desperately wishing I had my Mtn Hardwear windproof beanie. I love that the pockets give you access when you're wearing a pack and are located much like the pockets on a peacoat. Haven't had a chance to see how water resistant it is but have no doubt it will perform as promised as the rest of it already has. November 21, 2011
I've bought three of these since 2001 Yeah I love them. They are very comfortable and fit great. They have the correct amount and sized pockets. I think they look pretty good too. So why this jacket over ther other zip front fleece jackets. Because of Windstopper. It significantly cuts the cold you feel from wind. I'm not talking about a breeze. It cuts the cold out of an Alaskan beach in April or a biting winter blow out of the North. It sheds snow very well I don't have any problem wearing it in the snow as I run around camp or town. You'll want a shell over it if you are going to spend extensive time in blowing snow. November 16, 2011
Perfect All Around Jacket While I must first confess, the two Mountain Tech Jackets I have are the Windstopper versions of yesteryear, this jacket is nothing short of awesome. Between the perfect blend of fleece and softshell, this fleece will eat through the wind, and keep you warm and toasty, all in a nice little package. Going to school in the Northeast meant some nasty winters, however most days were completed with this jacket from start to finish. 2 years going strong on the first jacket, and just picking up another in a different color means i'm set for awhile. The pit zips are great for when it gets a little toasty, and the pockets in the front are nice and high so they are a nice and comfortable elbow bend, rather than hanging low. This fleece has been the perfect layering heading up to the mountain, and my only complaint would be that the center back length is a tad short. Nonetheless, great jacket. November 14, 2011
5 years later.... I have never been one to review a product because until now I've not BELIEVED in a product like this. I have used this jacket for everything! It has replaced my other 3 Jackets. The only time I don't wear this jacket is... Honestly I LOVE this jacket, sadly more than the 3 girlfriends that it and I have been through(the girls also all liked the jacket) The review: Pros: comfortable, durable-worn everyday during mid-west winters for 5 years(3 in college wearing backpack) lots of backpacking trips during winter. WARM-often wear only one layer below, on days in the 20s, below that I add thermals, have worn thermals and jacket only into the single digits, have skied this way. WINDPROOF(enough said) Cons: not waterPROOF(doesn't clam to be) and the area around the wrist is bigger than I would like. Doesn't go over my sports coats for church, I've stopped wearing sports coats to church November 10, 2011
10 Years 6 Countries 3 Continents This is the most versatile jacket I've ever used and abused. I purchased it after attending my first mountaineering school in 2001 and have used it comfortably in weather ranging from damp and breezy 50 degrees, to windy -20 degrees with just a thick base layer under it. It has kept me warm and comfortable in climates from the Green Mountains in VT, to cold desert nights, to winter in the Hindukush Mountains, and even as a 3 season daily wear jacket in the states. After 10 years of abuse, all the zippers still work, it still blocks all the wind, it still wicks sweat, and it still keeps out the damp. November 3, 2011
