Reviews

Men's Hellgate™ Jacket is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not perfect. This is a very well built jacket. Completely waterproof. Breathes better than most others of similar materials. Plenty of pockets outside and inside. Arms are long, longer than most larges I have bought from Mountain Hardware. Zippers are stiff and hard to operate, hopefully they will break in. I will be wearing this jacket as my primary ski jacket. I'm sure it will be up to the task.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look no further I don't normally take the time to write a review but I would be doing Mountain Hardwear and this jacket a disservice if I didn't. First of all, I'd just like to say that I ordered this jacket on-line and it arrived 2 days later. No hassles at all! Now for the jacket. It is exactly as described. It's very comfy, roomy and breathable. I've layered under this jacket and spent numerous hours snowboading both on the lifts and backcountry. The last two times I was out it was very windy with blowing snow. The Hellgate is a solid barrier against the wind and didn't get at all clammy inside. The helmet compatible hood allows me to ride protected as normal and the various vents are perfect for skinning back up. Small features like the articulated cuffs and fleece chin guard are truly appreciated. If you are looking for a great, all around jacket for multiple sports, look no further.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really Good Shell I've owned my jacket for the first half of the 2015/2016 winter and its been a pleasure to own and wear. The fabric is high quality, the zippers are good, the lined collar is sized well and soft on the face. Size runs a little big, which helps with layering tons of stuff on when its super cold but I've found that the jacket is actually a little baggy when not sitting on top of a few layers. Pockets are located well. The hood is a bit odd sized as its enormous and hard to dial in without a helmet but still somehow doesn't cover entirely when wearing a helmet. All in all though, it provides for great freedom of movement, has been very dry and does have great breathability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perhaps the BEST ski shell on the market... period. This shell is replacing a 20 yr old mountain hardwear shell - yes, they DO last! I am a ski instructor and know it will perform on the mountain. In the past couple of days, I have been out nordic skiing in relatively mild weather (mid 20's). The shell breathes extremely well - IS very waterproof - moves easily as I did my nordic session, and overall looks GREAT. There are ample pockets, when you zip up the fleece collar is soft on your face/neck, and the pit zips seem sufficiently long - but due to breathability, I did not need them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great in many ways I bought this about a month ago and winter has not yet hit with the full force but I figured I would provide a review. First and foremost I love the jacket: Pros: Breathable, waterproof, massive pockets, nice fit, and light weight, the powder skirt is not something typically featured on shells. Cons: Breathable (I will explain why this is here too), the pocket on the arm bunches weird for me at the wrist (i guess my arms are shorter than expected). This is by far the most breathable jacket I have ever had which is why it is both a pro and a con. When I am active the temp regulation is fantastic. When I am casually wearing it without layers and the temperature drops to 5 degrees I get cold in a hurry, which never really happens as I run hot. Coupled with just a fleece this thing is perfect. Overall this product is great. I would probably like to see a 3-in-1 option so the fleece could be secured. I can't wait to get it out to the slopes to give it a real test, based on what I have seen I am positive that is when it will really shine. Cheers,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ski shell, ever!! This shell is extremely sleek looking, made of bomber fabrics, has all of the bells and whistles that one would expect from a uber high-end, top dollar jacket from a premium brand; but what truly sets it apart from anything I've worn by Arc'teryx, Northface, Patagonia or any other brand is the breathability. The hang tag says, it is guaranteed to be THE MOST BREATHABLE jacket made in the world or I could return it...no need to return, it's not even close. You can feel the breathability the moment you put it on; but after some hard work is when it really kicks in. I will never purchase anything not made with DryQ Elite for my ski and/or shell needs. It blew my mind and I'm a total gear snob; I've owned the 'best' from just about every other brand and the Hellgate takes the cake!!
