Rated 5 out of 5 by Essential jacket I am a big fan of this jacket and it's inexplicable warmth for how light it is. While out climimg we made camp at 11,000 ft immediately the temperature dropped to the mid teens, putting on this jacket was like stepping inside. I couldn't get over how warm this jacket made me for how light and lofty it was. It's great for layering as I wore it in a snow storm while hiking out under my shell and I could not have been more happy. June 23, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Very Warm Light weight? Yes. Warm? Yes. Functional? Yes. Durable? Questionable. I found that this jacket snags easily. If you leave your pockets unzipped it sounds like the fabric is snagging on the zipper constantly. I took a fall,hI found that this jacket snags easily. If you leave your pockets unzipped it sounds like the fabric is snagging on the zipper constantly. I took a minor in town is pouring out of my jacket. I got a black jacket and it is a little shiny. Many people think I am wearing a women's jacket or it is too feminine. Regardless, I still like it. June 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ghost Whisperer - Ultimate Travel Jacket. Took my new Ghost Whisperer Jacket on an Alaska Cruise in early May. This is really one of the best and most versatile jackets that I have ever owned. Jacket takes up hardly any space when compacted and is super lightweight. Perfect for transit and on airplanes. For evening walks on the deck after dinner and on the full day in Glacier Bay National Park, the Jacket is capable of taking you comfortably down to the 30 deg F temperatures with 20-30 mph winds with just a short sleeve shirt underneath. On land, Jacket was great on hikes. Stows away while you are climbing the trails like Dewey Lake and Yukkatat Point in Skagway , but keeps you warm once you get to the vistas (very windy) and viewing areas. DWR treatment of the Ghost fabric was great too for shedding moisture from the early morning fog. Water just beads up and falls away. Jacket was key to staying comfortable outdoors and take in all of the views and wildlife. June 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by 2nd Time Around Great jacket for skiing or just winter use. This is my 2nd one and bought another for my wife that she wears all winter, not just skiing. Like the lightness and water proof quality...will be taking fishing in Alaska this summer. They should tell you about the tie string at the bottom which now has an invisible clasp inside the him. Rated 1 out of 5 by Delicate Very delicate fabric tears easily , loses much pen, can not use dark t-shirts. May 12, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great, almost perfect I've only had initial impression of this jacket so far, I'll get some pics up and update my review in time. I went with the hoodless because I plan to use it predominantly as a midlayer It's biggest attribute obviously is the warmth to weight ratio, this thing is a feather. Take note that the sizing is odd compared to other Mountain Hardware items. I'd seen this comment often on the jacket but still went for a Large, which is the size I have for every other Mountain Hardware shirt/jacket I own. I'm 6'3 180 lbs and was swimming in it. Returned it for a medium and it's absolutely perfect. However a medium shouldn't be perfect for my long armed gangly self, it really fits like a medium tall. Like any ultra light gear, you tend to sacrifice strength and durability for weight. I haven't had any problems yet, but lets just say I won't ever be bushwacking with this jacket on. It's pretty clear that the fabric will not withstand much abuse, this is a winter skiing midlayer or fall hiking outerlayer for me, I'm going to have to try to not be too rough on it. As far as this notorious cuff problem? Yes, the cuffs could be improved with some better elasticity. Is it a deal breaker? Absolutely not in my opinion, it's really not that bad, I have skinny wrists and while there is a gap it's not overly noticeable to me. Maybe it would be a bigger issue if the sleeve's were too long for me (which is the case for alot of people with this jacket as it fits like a tall size), but as is the sleeves come down to wrist level and it's not a big issue. Overall, I'm really happy with the jacket. It really is incredibly warm for it's 7 oz weight. However I would be perfectly willing to add just a smidge more weight for a chest pocket, and to beef up the main zipper just a bit. With some minor changes this jacket could really be the bees knees, but as is it's still pretty darn sweet. I'll see how it holds up over time and adjust my review accordingly. April 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Why whisper when we can shout for joy. I was very surprised how light this jacket is. And it fits like a glove.. (a Mountain Hardwear glove) I'm 6'1" and 175lbs and bought the large after reading other reviews also trying one on at a retailer. I'm a professional photographer and have already been in some less than perfect spots and this jacket has held up incredibly well. It's very warm and waterproof. I'm going to look for a shell next being I live and work the North Shore of Lake Superior where winds reach 60 mph and when waves match the power of the ocean. I highly recommend this product. Rated 5 out of 5 by can't beat this This is simply, best of breed. Best mid-layer possible; most warmth with the least weight. Killer tech to bring "down" into the 21st century. Can't do better than this. March 27, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Low Quality Zipper I really want to like this Jacket. Everything but one detail is wonderful. The zipper is low quality does not hold up to everyday use. For the price paid it should!! March 26, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Ghost Whisperer The jacket us very lightweight and has ample of room to move around in. The downside is: the outer fabric is not rugged or tough. I have had this jacked for 2 weeks and the down material is already poking through. If this jacket can't make it through the day to day wear, I can't imagine how it can hols up to "alpine hiking". It's not worth the price... February 12, 2015
