Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 93 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by OMG, yes it's light and it's nicely warm! Ok so just to start off. I never give anything 5 starts because there is always something little that never makes anything perfect. But this is as close to a 5 as I will give because it is that good. No I don't work for Columbia, or Mountain Hardware...I just love this piece of clothing. First off just like everyone else says...My god it's light! I have had about 5 people hold it in their hands and they are amazed. Is it warm?...Yes it's warm. Would I wear it as a main jacket for all situations? NO, I wouldn't. This has become my 2nd line of defense against cold underneath a waterproof shell if needed in those rain or wet snow situations. On it's own It's really a excellent option for days that are pushing between 20-40 degrees. If you are going to wear this don't be too surprised just wearing a T-shirt or long sleeve base layer if you are walking or running as it will be nice and toasty. Did I mention it's very light!!! I have also used this as a mid liner under my for warmer weather motorcycle Mesh jacket. That jacket doesn't block any wind or cold and it's not designed too. But I wanted to try this out underneath it and it worked wonderfully. So much that I am actually considering selling my other Bore-Mex (they said not to mention competitors so what rhymes with those two names you can figure it out) jacket that has everything built in because it's so much bulkier. This was a wonderful purchase. So much that I also purchased the vest version of it and I will write a review of that next. October 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best in it's class, Hands down! Easy to see why this is an award winning jacket! Great fit, great size and weight for the back country. Stays warm and packs away easy in just about any pack and some pockets. Q. Shield Down keeps you dry all day, even as you sweat. Love this jacket, I had others like it in the past from other vendors and after this one, I won't ever go back. September 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The epitome of light and warm...but it is a low-feature jacket. This jacket doesn't serve every need. But what it does, it does perfectly. This jacket is far warmer than you'd expect for how thin and light it is. I wore it with only a t-shirt underneath, as my mainstay last winter in Boston, MA. I was never cold with it, even well below freezing. The shell material blocks wind & cold perfectly. It's not water-proof, but it holds up in light rain just fine. It is amazingly light. Any time I hand it to someone, they're shocked how light it is. I also used it as a layer when skiing in both cold and wet conditions, and it held up great. It compresses down to almost nothing, so if you're into backpacking or traveling light, this jacket is wonderful. I have two gripes: I wish it had a chest pocket...I want to use the hand pockets for warmth, without having to worry about dropping my keys or something when I take my hands out... I wish the down fill were better contained. Every time I wear it, at least one feather floats away. Considering what this jacket costs, I don't want to see feathers coming out... Okay, three: Price. This thing is expensive. I only went with it because I had the chance to buy it at a discount. But I've seen it on sale pretty often. So with that, or if price is not a concern for you, then this is a no-brainer if you want a light jacket that has the warmth of a heavy jacket. June 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by essential piece essential peice for bagging peaks. put pit zips and make it even better for those in between days when you have short hike and dont want to put in pack February 15, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Sizing is way off so I returned the Ghost Whisperer It's hard to rate an item that I didn't have a chance to use but here goes. I'm 5'11" 210lbs Athletic build and wear a 46 Regular sports coat and XL jackets from Arc'Teryx , Patagonia and other Mountain Hardware items. This jacket is cut big in the chest , torso and worst of all the arms are so long they went past my finger tips. I wear a 34-35 length sleeve so XL should have been fine. I hope this review saves someone the time and shipping cost I wasted giving this jacket a shot. The one quality flaw I noticed is that the tiny zipper is inadequate and I struggled to zip and unzip the jacket just trying it on so I know that's most likely going to fail. February 10, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Overpriced for bad zippers/stitching and design Main and pocket zippers are very low quality. The arms of the jacket are constantly "snagging" on the pocket zippers. After inspection I found the stitching on the arm is being pulled on by the pocket zipper when I raise my arms. Also, the "down" feathers move around and migrate way from areas like the inside of your elbows leaving you with cold spots. Love the softness and warmth of the coat, but it will end up going back for warranty soon. I have had the coat for 30 days. January 25, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by not great. I know this is an 'award winner' and i had high hopes and i can respect that. I wore this jacket for one solitary day...or a few 650 down jkts as warm or warmer and i felt no need for them to be lighter. I never felt like i truly was comfortably warm in this jkt and it was not very very cold out and i was walking/exercising. The low profile design to this is spectacular though - you barely notice it being on! Additionally, mine began to leak feathers on day one, not good. Not any better in my estimation than any other down fill jkt, any brand including 650 fill. January 23, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Meets expectations This jacket is probably the most hyped piece of clothing I've ever purchased. This makes it difficult to be truly blown away by it once you get your hands on it. I'm 6' 0", 180 lbs and the medium fits me perfectly with a long sleeve thermal underneath. It looks like they've added a few extra inches to the sleeves to you can pull them over your hands. The extra length is not noticeable when wearing them at the wrist. As far as warmth goes, I was comfortable with just a t-shirt underneath after in hour in 35 degree, overcast, blustery conditions. It was more than comfortable during a mid-20 degree, 10+ mph wind, three hour hike when I added a rain shell and a thermal base layer. I imagine I would have continued to be comfortable well into the single digits with this setup. My only gripes are minor. I find about one down feather a day poking out of the jacket, but I imagine it would take a long time before this produced any noticeable loss in loft. The second, it that I do find the zipper getting stuck on the fabric every couple of times, but it comes undone pretty easily. In conclusion, this jacket lives up to its enormous amount of hype and its only shortcomings are fairly minor, but enough to knock it back to 4 stars. January 21, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Ghost Whisperer Shark Review Very nice product. Crazy warmth for a jacket of such lightweight. The jacket does get a lot of looks and questions because it appears to be a puffy, thin skinned sleeping bag with arms. With that, the material IS very thin and I'm constantly worried about ripping it or snagging it. I'm 5'9" 165lbs. The medium is pretty form fitting but comfortable. Might consider a size larger if you like a loose fit. January 20, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great tech, but sent back for a fix after a month I absolutely love this jacket - warm and light as advertised. But after having it less than a month and wearing it only a handful of times, a big stitch popped out of one of the seams. Now it's in for warranty repair, and I have no idea when I'll get it back. I'm new to buying Mountain Hardwear gear, so not sure if this is par for the course or not. Not thrilled, but hoping it all works out. MH seems like rock-solid gear. January 16, 2016
