Men's Ghost Whisperer™ Down Jacket 4.4 5 63 63
Just right The specs sound almost too good to be true but the Ghost Whisperer really delivers. Light, compact, warm and even good looking! I was skeptical about how well the treated down would actually perform when wet, but while water is clearly decremental I have to admit that the down keeps a surprising amount of loft even when wet. And, it doesn't get wet that easily anyway. The ultra-thin nylon shell does a good job of keeping light weather out. Naturally, the jacket needs a shell on top in actual rainy weather, and it's not a jacket for any kind of physical work (perspiration stays inside), but it's PERFECT for hanging around camp, staying warm during a break in hiking or simply the constant in-and-out of running errands around town. It's almost never too warm nor too cold. As with most ultra-light gear, it's not the most solid jacket. While the thin fabric holds up very well, the stitches used to create the quilt pattern snags easily, tearing the thread or creating little loops that will then snag and tear even easier. Once the thread tears the affected part of the quilt pattern comes undone fairly fast. Some kind of self-locking stitch might improve resilience to snags and tears on future models? Also, the zipper requires some coordination and strength in the fingers to operate - not something I noticed before I REALLY needed to close it with frozen hands on a windy ridge. A piece of string on the puller (or a larger puller, please!) takes care of the problem. Still, the best down jacket I've ever owned, and I LOVE it! January 5, 2015
Great Mid Layer Jacket I am 6'7 175 lbs and the XXL fits me perfectly. I live in Vancouver and during the winter its cold and RAINY !!!! I wear this jacket daily with a light waterproof shell and its perfect. I also wear it skiing up too Whistler and its warm in the alpine as well. Highly recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a true to fit comfortable light weight jacket. December 6, 2014
Great but not so great. So this jacket... Light and warm. Stays pretty warm when wet and shields well in 50 - 70 mph winds. I've been doing runs up a few 14ers this winter already in it and it's proved well beyond what i though it would. I have one major complaint though. The down pokes through. Within the first week after buying this jacket, one down fluff poked through. Then another a few weeks later. More and more followed. The light weight nylon cannot keep the down in. And once it pokes through it's nearly impossible to push it back. I will not be buying another one of these jackets ever unless this problem is solved. If you plan on getting this, be ready to tape over all the little holes the down makes. Never had any issues with snags or tears from normal to hardcore use. Just the down poking through. Frustrated. Great Jacket, just not as warm as previous versions I live in Minneapolis and previously in Denver. I spend a lot of time outdoors both in the mountains and commuting to work etc. in temps from -20 to 25F as a matter of my daily life. I have 2 Ghost Whisperers and several other down jackets from other brands too. The Ghost Whisperer is my go-to choice every single time. Great quality, nice snug fit, amazingly, indescribably lightweight and they look great to boot. The warmth to weight ratio is just insane. I routinely wear these in sub zero temps all the way up to 50 some odd degrees and these adjust perfectly. The only issue I have with the one I bought in fall 2014 is that for some reason MHW seems to have dropped it from 850 to 800 fill. I really loved the 850 and was thinking this would be the same. The 800 is still a great jacket, don't get me wrong, but it's not AS warm as the one I got in either 2012/2013 (Can't remember which). Still, if you are looking for a down jacket, look no further! Perfect Great Jacket! Fits well and very warm. It was extremely easy to pack and light weight for a flight down the mountain. November 17, 2014
Fantastic lightweight warmth I'm 6' and 165 lbs, medium was the right fit for me. I was surprised when trying on the large, it really is larger than many companies' large, as I'm usually right on the edge. I was looking for a slim fit to not be a boxy fit, and the medium is perfect. Plenty of room for me to wear a layer or two under, fits great under my jacket, AND the arms are perfect length for me. Love the warmth this provides. I have been out in the snow in 30-40F temps and have actually needed to unzip. Cuffs are just the right amount of snug, and I am certain this will be in my bag for backcountry trips. As noted many places, the outer fabric is lightweight, thus fragile. I have NOT had any problems yet (nor do I ever hope to), but I will not be wearing this jacket as an outer shell if I am expecting to carry anything on my shoulders, or rub up against any rough rocks. The fabric so far has lived up to its water-repellent nature - I got creamed by numerous snowballs and the water beaded up and rolled of my shoulders. I can easily imagine being plenty warm with a long sleeve underwear, this jacket, and a shell in temps down to 0F or colder. As I mentioned, my core was quite warm with just this at freezing temps. Oh, and it looks smokin' too! November 5, 2014
Always be prepared This jacket is a must have if you operate in changing conditions, or you're a travel warrior. It's light wieght makes it an ideal versitle travel jacket. Stylish, but most importantly unbelievably warm at just about every tempature!!! Don't hesitate, purchase, and you wont regret! October 29, 2014
Ghost Whisperer This is a really light jacket and think MH is looking for innovative ways to create products that stand out in the industry. Overall, the craftsmanship of the jacket was pretty solid however I had to return the item due to the zipper. They day I received it and tried it on, it wouldn't fully separate at the bottom when unzipping without some manipulation. This is a basic function of the jacket and should have been QA'd before distribution. The fit is a little odd for me. I'm 5'9" and 180lbs. The arms felt like they were properly cut but the body felt like there was too much material so it would bunch up. Good work on introducing the hydrophobic down as living in the PNW this would definitely come in handy. I'm sure I received a bad apple and is unlikely that anyone else would be likely to experience the zipper issues. But in the end I sent it back due to the fit. October 23, 2014
Best Down Jacket on the Market The jacket is awesome, there isnt much more I can say. It is super light weight, packs down to the size of a nalgene bottle and keeps you very warm. There is a reason it continues to win award after award. October 20, 2014
Amazing jacket! Bought this jacket for my husband who loves to spend time in the mountains and also needed something to wear to and from work during long Minnesota winters. This jacket is very cool looking and very warm and functional. High quality fabric and great cut. It is his new go-to jacket. Lightweight and breathable, but still tremendously warm. October 9, 2014
