Men's Alpen Plasmic™ Ion Jacket is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Inner Rubber Feel The 2.5 layer (without a built-in smooth inner liner) feels like cold rubber to the skin in a Northwest mild rain. Maybe it's really made to go over thicker inner layers which would certainly help, but then it feels too small with no stretch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I cannot be more impressed with this jacket. The material is very sturdy feeling and comfortable. The amount of storage you get with the jacket is wonderful as well. You should have no problems keeping your things dry in the middle of a downpour. The adjustable components are awesome. The only small critique about the jacket are the sleeves are a bit long for me, but then it's an XL. So it's probably only a problem for me. I love this jacket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a rain jacket Good fitting light fall jacket I guess. Both times Ive been in the rain my whole shirt and arms are wet in minutes. Its about as functional as wearing a paper towel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome shell This is an incredibly versatile shell. Weather in Oregon is highly unpredictable and this is the perfect all-conditions shell. You can go fast and light with it or layer it and go warm and dry. I can't imagine a better shell for the money. Great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Off the charts in quality and value This is my second Mountain Hardwear rain coat. I've been impressed by the craftsmanship and value received for the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good as an emergency shell This is just my first impression of this jacket without testing it outdoors. The outer layer seems to be of good quality and water repellant. The inner layer feels a lot like plastic, waterproof, but not breathable and sticks to skin. This jacket is better suited as an emergency rain shell or in situations that don't require much physical exertion. If you're looking for a fabric that resembles Gortex, this is not it. Maybe I'll have better luck with MH's Dry Q Elite.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Colors are way, way off dude (Electron Yellow / Inca Gold) Liking the online views of the Electron Yellow / Inca Gold color (as well as the tech specs of course), two sizes were ordered from a 3rd party. Both jackets were consistent in (off) color under various lighting conditions (natural sun, LED) but unfortunately did not match the online colors. Instead the jacket's "inca gold" is more like straw (HEX #E4D96F - google it) and the jacket's "electron yellow" is more like maize (HEX #FBEC5D). Interestingly, when I change my camera's white balance warmer (~3800K) the jacket begins to look like the online views. I called friendly Customer Service about this and verified the poor color matching is not the result of some bad manufacturing run. So if you really like the online Electron Yellow / Inca Gold colors, you have been warned that they don't look like the online views! Other notes: the hood stays out ie it doesn't tuck away; the main zipper is "one-way" only ie, when fully zipped up there is no second zipper at the bottom; jacket feels "light" versus "heavy"; I'm 5'9 + 155lbs and the jacket fits just right (with enough arm articulation) with a winter fleece underneath - just the way I like it; haven't rain tested it yet; the waterproofing tech is "2.5 layer" eVent which is known to be more breathable than GoreTex; in general eVent is more recent tech and undeniable better priced. And yes, I am an engineer . . .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BC Wore this jacket snowboarding in relentless BC snow. Kept out the wind and moisture. Any warmth you're trying for needs to be done with layering under the jacket.
