Rated 5 out of 5 by Alchemy Hooded Softshell Just received this jacket yesterday. I had a couple of non-hooded softshell jackets about 5 years ago and did not care for them due to their ability to keep me dry from the elements or keep me warm. I have since then, with doing research and better understanding of their use, have acquired a few MHW softshell jackets, with this being my second (my first is the non-hooded and non-waterproof Android--original model--jacket and currently en route to me the original Gore Windstopper based Mountain Tech jacket--the version that had the pit zips BTW). I'm 5'11", weigh 196, have a 35 sleeve and wear a 41 sport coat. The Large fits me perfectly. I have included some photos to highlight the fit through the body and with a helmet. The helmet compatible hood, which is prevalent in most, if not all MHW jackets I believe, is fantastic. I can easily layer under the Alchemy my Desna Grid jacket and still have good mobility. The jacket itself provides a decent amount of warmth (as far as a softshell is concerned mind you). Long ago I thought softshell jackets were supposed to keep your both warm and dry under all weather conditions, not what this specific model or what softshells in general are supposed to do mind you. The Vislon AquaGuard zipper is easy to use and I am glad its a two way zipper for good venting. The pack and harness compatible handwarmers pull double duty for core venting too which is nice. The inner drop mesh pocket is nice as is the interior zip pocket. Too bad neither will work for my iPhone 6 Plus. I am looking forward to putting the Alchemy Hooded softshell jacket through the paces when I return to Chamonix next Spring for some backpacking. June 26, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Awkward hood fit The hood has a poor design and can't be cinched down properly, in addition the front zips up way too high, above my nose. This jacket is bulky, the chest had an odd shape that I can't describe. It would fit a large chested woman better than me. the sleeves are a good length and have a simple design for tightening the cuffs May 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Softshell Let me begin by saying I was skeptical about this product as I have always worn another well-known brand. I took my chances and purchased this product and much to my surprise wore it on one of the coldest (10 F) days in NYC. I walked around the city with a shell underneath, and two simple layers, and much to my surprise I didn’t feel the brisk wind and chill that the elements had in store on that day. I wore it later in the evening and again I was surprised how the wind and harsh cold weather did not penetrate the jacket. I’m a true believer this jacket is phenomenal in its performance, and craftsmanship. I would highly recommend this jacket. February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I had sworn off softshells... I wore it to the summits of Mt Rainier, Hood some others, its my ski jacket and, after lots of wear and washing the DWR finish is great and its WAY more waterproof and BILLIONS times more breathable than gore-stuff. I got mine pre-release so I got an entire season of wear from it. I used to hate soft shell jackets after one left me hypothermic on Mt Adams but this jacket is making me a believer. Not a soccer mom softshell to wear around campus this is for the mountains. The hood fits over a helmet perfectly. I am 5' 10" and weigh 185-195 and the Large fits with layering room underneath. Zippers are still really stiff and the shock cord adjusters are impossible to use with gloves so dial it in before you climb. January 9, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Time Will Tell I just purchased this jacket a week ago and here are a few first impressions : I plan on using this piece for ice and alpine climbing. For a long time, I gave up on waterproof/breathable garments mainly because they're waterproof, but far from breathable. I read a lot about the Dry.Q Elite technology and I hope that it's everything I want it to be. I'm 5'10" and 175 pounds. The medium fits perfect except it's a tad tight in the shoulder area. I feel the material ride up slightly in the arm pits, but it's not too bad. The material is definitely soft-shell, but ZERO stretch to it. Pocket placements are perfect and the hood swallows my BD Vector helmet with no issues. The two-way zipper is a nice touch for venting and using with a harness. The craftsmanship is spot-on and there doesn't appear to be anything overlooked. So far, the only downfall is the weight penalty. Compared to a lot of new shells on the market, this one is pretty heavy compared to the ultra-lighters hitting the shelves. The State Orange is what drew me to the jacket in the first place. It's bright and you could probably direct traffic from the moon. Love the color! November 22, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent cold weather rain jacket This jacket is very breathable and works perfectly for being out in the cold rain. Its not very insulated so I pair it with a lightweight down jacket. I'm 5'9 165 pounds and the jacket fits well. Sleeves are an inch too long but otherwise a great jacket. November 18, 2014
