Fluid™ Race VestPack 4.8 5 9 9
Small - medium is way too Small All my tech shirts are small, sometimes I may use medium, so I order the small - medium size. When I got it and tried it on it felt very snug but I decided to give it a try in a 18 mile trail run, after a couple of hours the upper part of the vest was rubbing on the back of my neck. I found the other model without the pack on sale on another website and order the medium-large, now that one is a great fit. It is a shame I can't return this one now. I am 5.7, 150lb. June 3, 2015
My go to pack for all day hikes The BEST! Holds up to 6 liters of liquids plus front vest pockets for smartphone, gel packs, electrolyte tabs. The only pack I've used for the past 2 years of long day hikes and climbs. I'm running less than half the weight of fellow hikers with conventional day packs. Great for kayaking also May 21, 2015
my new best friend I had Mnt.H.W.'s old runners pack, which was great, but my dog tore through it to get to some granola that I had left in it...I had it safety pinned and it was too big for me since I havebeen running so much! This pack I bought in a sm-med. I am a solid 36 D, and it fits like the BeesKneez!! I ran once in it and then ran my first 50 mile ultra....it was increadible. I was worried since using new gear in a race is a BIG NO NO...but I Ihad no choice. I have noticed a bit of fraying in the mesh of the back panel though... I will address it with Mnt. HW once my semester is over as I know they are great about repairs and replacements....all in all, I wont run without it. RunLikeAnAntelope!!!! Fitzcoyote. May 7, 2015
This vest/pack rides well After one year of use I can say that this is a very lightweight balanced vest/pack that rides well while holding a lot of gear. The front pockets are great for trail food and holds my bear spray right where I need it which is important where I run. Add your own water reservoir and it is held snug without a lot of sloshing around. I added a barrel lock and cord to the outside attachments for outside carry. I don't know why MH did not do this, it maybe saves two dollars per pack. April 13, 2015
Vestpack for run commuting I use this to run home from work. Fits a spare layer, wallet, phone, water, and a snack. Not much else. Doesn't bounce which the backpacks were doing. M/L is a little shorter than expected for 6'0 long torso body. December 16, 2014
Fantastic Product I rarely take the time to write a review, but this little pack has impressed me so much, I figured I owed it to Mountain Hardwear. I have used this little pack trail running, but primarily for fast and light hikes. The fit is just fantastic. It really hugs the torso. I am a 39-40 inch chest and wear the pack with the two front straps about .5-1 inch shy of the tightest position, so I would say it runs a touch large. Someone who wears a small shirt may have trouble getting the pack as snug as they may like, but you can adjust the position of the straps vertically, and that may help. I love the large mesh pockets on the front, which hold a water bottle nicely. Also, lots of small zipper pockets to keep other things handy. I can fit a 2 liter water bladder, a lightweight long sleeve shirt, a lightweight windbreaker, a small first aid kit, a headlamp, and lunch in the pack. I usually keep all of my granola bars in the front pockets, so food is always handy. $85 might be a little steep for price, but you won't be disappointed with the pack. It seems to go on sale often enough that you could probably get it for less. August 22, 2014
Fluid Race Vest - Best yet I took this Vest on a maiden run of 3.5 hours over 18 miles, with nearly 4,000' of elevation gain. It didn't miss a beat. This Vest tightens down to the body perfectly, doesn't have any extra straps to flop around, and doesn't prevent sweat evaporation. I recommend a 2 liter bladder (it fits easily into the sleeve). This is one of the best trail running purchases I have ever made. I am 6' tall and 180 lbs. The size L fits me perfectly. I also own the Fluid 6. For the core runner, this Vest has everything you need: no extra weight, no frills, just utility. July 16, 2014
vestpack Although the “VestPack” is marketed as a race item, I think it is also a useful as daypack with its large 6-liter zippered pouch on the back that could easily accommodate the essentials of a day hike. It is lightweight at 8.8 ounces (M/L). The heaviest item in a daypack is usually extra water but where I hike in the Sierras, there is plenty of water available that can be treated or filtered. Perhaps the primary feature of this vest/pack is the versatility. There are plenty of pockets (I count 6 pockets on the front (3 zippered) and a large zippered pouch on the back. There is a zippered mesh pouch inside of the back pouch. You can load it with your particulars and most of the weight is in the items not the pack. It also does a better job of weight distribution than a fanny pack with less storage capacity. It also has a mini haul strap at the top on the back. Think, “Quick access”. I have used this vest/pack on two; day hikes that lasted over 6 hours each with no problems with the shoulder straps or heat build up from the extra layer. For what it is worth, I carried a hooded rain jacket, Satellite Phone, headlamp, orange flagging tape, and a compass in the back pocket. In the right front area I had bug spray in the zippered pouch and energy bars and gels in the larger pouch. In the left front, I had a map and glasses in the zippered pouch and a pocket zoom camera in the bigger pouch. My keys were in the top right zippered pocket. July 3, 2014
Awesome running pack I reviewed a lot of packs before picking this one. The Mountain Hardware Race Vest had awesome reviews but I could not find a review for the pack. I bought this pack to run 20+ miler training runs and it did the trick. First impressions after pulling it out of the shipping package. Very light weight and smaller then I imagined which scared me at first. I could not find someone who used this pack with a bladder greater than 1.5L, but the material is so stretchy that a 3L bladder could fit easily. I opted to use a 2L bladder that worked wonderfully. While running with it I could hear the sloshing of the water but that didn't bother me. I'm a 190lb man and it fit perfectly. I ran 32 miles first time with it and it didn't chafe. The straps in the front allowed me to cinch down as the bladder drained. I had a hard 20 oz bottle for electrolyte solution in the front stretchy pocket that fit easily and did not bounce. The hard bottle rubbed on my diaphragm when full which could easily be solved with a soft flask. The other front pocket I used for my phone, bars and shot blocks which made it convenient not to reach around to my back while running. There is also a zippered pocket that I used for S tabs in the front. I loved the extra pocket in the back to put a sandwich, bars, and extra shot blocks. This pocket could easily fit an extra lightweight jacket and a head lamp. All in all a great pack for the price. I had hardly any bouncing with a full bladder. Very happy with my purchase.
