Dissapointed I have used this pack a few times on short excursions and it seemed very durable and has great functionality. It's unfortunate that after only two 13 mile days on the Lost Coast, CA that the waistbelt rubbed me raw. On the second day I applied tape to the affected area and it burned right through. This problem could be solved by replacing the waistbelt but the pack is just generally uncomfortable. This seems to be the consensus based on many people I've spoken with regarding MH packs. Great function, but uncomfortable. I had planned on using this pack for a 280 mile trip through the Sierra Nevada this summer but am now looking to replace it. June 13, 2012
Bag held up through epic trip I took the Direttissima™ 46 though Cove Canyon which is in the Western most part of the Grand Canyon's North Rim. The bag was the heaviest I have ever had with canyoneering gear, backpacking gear, and packrafting gear all stuffed into it for a 3 day adventure.The bag was comfortable on my shoulders and there is no visible wear and tear after scraping it across rocks and canyon walls for 11 hours a day.The attachment features made it easy to access and store PFD, ropes, harnesses, webbing, and more which I had to transition to and from numerous times throughout the trip. the REAL DEAL Ok, so I don't normally go out of my way to write gear reviews....Im a busy guy just like everyone else, wife and kids, long job hours while I crave time above treeline.. but I was particularly moved to follow-up on this pack.I'm a 35 year old, fairly athletic, climber, mountaineer....and occasionally a family style hiker with the kids. I have a quiver of packs, some from MHW and some from the "other" companies.My mountaineering pack, my trail running pack, my bike commuting pack are all sort-of ho-hum nothing special. They do their job well and are comfortable. I have always struggled to find the perfect climbing pack. The marriage of form and function with an ability to strip the weight down on the fly is essential.The Dirretisima 46 is an amazing performer in this category. I was little turned-off by the white color at first, but it seems to perform well despite the mixed climbing mud fest I can put things through....it's wicked touch as a crampon back panel and the "hideaway" compression straps are amazing for being there when you need them. The frame sheet and padding are all adequate....and even with a moderate load of 22lbs, the regular nylon webbing belt wasnt too bad for a few hours....I would definitely put on the heavier belt for more weight or more time on the approach.I'm tentative to try out new technologies in pack function, like the exterior shovel pocket or those hidden compression straps, they often have been the sort of gimmicky thing that disappointed me in the past....but this was a real performer. A large shovel ie the bigger BD Deploy is a very tight fit, but my smaller shovel fit with room to spare. I imaging it would be even tighter if someone bought the smaller size pack(I wear a large)..Sizing is true to fit...looking forward to more vertical adventures and I'll be sure to update the review then...thanks MHW- great job on this one May 2, 2012
Good all around climber's pack i used this pack for a multil pitch climb in colorado. the pack has an additional light weight belt that's easy to change, which is a great feature, use the sturdier belt to hall rope and rack to the base of the climb. switch out the waist belt and you've got plenty of room for your harness and access to gear. ice climber? simply move the compression straps to the outside and strap on the crampons. the ice tool holders are well made and sturdy, this pack can take some abuse. Direttissima 46 This is a sweet pack I have a bunch of MHW packs actually. I use the BMG guiding Denali expeditions and it is the perfect pack for that to say the least. The Direttisama is my go to pack for climbing and guiding in the Tetons and in the Utah and Arizona Desert. It carries heavy dense loads very well. It is also really durable. December 7, 2011
My go to pack for the Grand Amazingly functional pack for climbing/skiing/mountaineering. MH has really outdone themself this time. Past packs have been too flimsy and included unnecessary features, this pack is solidly built and includes the core features you need. Only down side is the white front gets dirty if you are climbing through chimneys, etc. October 6, 2011
Held up with 35 lbs Took it on it's maiden trip this past weekend up in the eastern sierra. The pack carried the weight well for 2 days, with only a bit of sagging by end of day 2. I would maybe buy the upgradable hip-belt for heavier loads. Functionality was excellent. Good dual purpose compression straps. I even like the intuitive buckling configurations, considering how many there are. June 17, 2011
