Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed!! I have been buying Mountain Hardware products for a long time now. Always been very satisfied. This gaiter though was a total disappointment. Both my husband and I bought one for our x-country ski trip this year. First of all the sizing was too large. I (female) typical wear size 10 shoe and got the Medium per the sizing chart. Waaaay too large. Exchanged for a Small. Kind of fit! Adjustments were hard to make and hard to hide the extra piece you have left after making adjustments below the knee. After the first use, the snap came off my husband's gaiter!! Not good quality. I think we will return both and get another brand. I recommend this gaiter to be totally redesigned with ease of use/adjustment and typical quality of product I always came to expect from Mountain Hardware brand. February 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Holds Up Against (Nearly) Everything These gaiters are bomber. I've used them nearly every month we've had snow in the Cascades and they not only fit well and STAY UP (no snow is able to sneak through this design), but they also fit well over a variety of pants, thanks to their adjustable top strap- alpine pants, boarding pants, and insulated leggings all work under them. One of my favorite things about them is the VERY durable boot strap. I might kick myself for saying this but I'll be very surprised if it gives out at all during use. The downside is that in especially cold conditions, I struggle to undo the strap with gloves on since it's so secure but, hey, that's what partners are for, right? The only MINOR durability issue is that I've put some decent scrapes in them- nothing has gone all the way through but in a few instances my very, very sharp crampons have put little surface scratches in the material. That being said, I don't think very many materials would hold up well to razor sharp crampons. December 13, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Gaiters make you look cool! First pair, defective. Lace hook busted loose after 2 uses. Rivets broke. MHW customer service said "WHAT?! You've got defective gear?! No worries, the new ones are on the way!" And they sure were. Had them in hand 2 days later. *the above is really more of a stellar customer service review. Gaiter review below. After receiving my second pair, I put them to work right away. We've gotten quite a bit of snow here lately in Colorado so I wanted to abuse these things as much as possible. I wear them everyday to work and they stay on all day. Generally 12-15+ hours a day. They breath, but not well. I normally have some condensation built up towards the top of the gaiter when I take them off at night. They keep my legs warm and dry from the snow and slush. I'm not certain these are waterproof. They're not advertised as waterproof, but they do a gaiteriffic job at keeping the junk out. **Sizing When layered up at high altitude, the large is nice and snug. But I like that. I wear 11.5 mountaineering boot. When at work with just jeans and a base layer, the large is a little bulky. So whatever the sizing chart says for you, maybe think about dropping down one. Unless you're wearing MHWs absolute zero down suit, I don't think very many people would fall into the extra large category. They work great in the mountains. They work great at work. And you look awesome at the local supermarket. Overall, definitely recommend these bad boys! February 27, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Well made, but run large This review is strictly based on fit and perceived quality since I haven't worn them out in the snow yet. These gaiters run extremely large. I wear a 10.5 in hiking and mountaineering boots (La Sportiva Trango for reference) and first ordered a large. I wasn't able to tighten them down enough to get a proper seal around the boot and snow would have come up through the bottom if I had used them. The size chart says that I could have even bought an XL (10-14). I returned them for a medium (6-9?!) and they fit properly. The quality seems to be very good, but I will update this after I have put some miles on them. December 3, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Foot strap buckle broke the first day of use The gaiter material and foot strap seem very durable. You get the option for replacing the straps in the event that they break which I think excellent feature. However, the foot strap buckles are not durable and cannot be replaced. Mine broke the first day of use. I'm a firm believer of trying something on before I get it but saw on the sizing chart that an XL would fit boot sizes 10-14. I wear a size 12, so I assumed that with a few minor adjustments I would be good to go. Not the case. The gaiter felt pretty baggy and wouldn't stay clipped to the top of my boot regardless of how I adjusted the foot strap. November 11, 2014
