A feather-light vest pack for rapid ascent alpinists. A new concept in super-lightweight, unrestrictive alpine packs combining the comfort of a race vest coupled with the volume of a summit pack. Designed for easy accessibility without removing the pack. On-The-Fly compression eliminates bounce and stabilizes load by keeping pack close to the body.
Fit and comfort of a vest combined with the volume and function of a summit pack
Comfortable, low profile, wide, lightly padded shoulder straps distribute weight effectively and shed snow and ice
Remarkably stable load control with OTF (On-The-Fly) compression system is easily activated while wearing the pack
Four easy access pockets of varying sizes on shoulder straps keep necessary items in reach
Convenient zip top access main compartment
Versatile compression system secures climbing gear and overloads, but can be removed to reduce weight
Easy tool and gear carrying setup: dual ice axe cradles and mini daisy chains
For the serious alpinist climbing super fast, needing easy access to crucial gear and the volume of a summit pack that fits like a vest
almost perfect Purchased for overnight super-light runs/backpacking in the high sierra and one or two day mountaineering jaunts.Feels great running; no bouncing or slop. Holds just the right amount of gear for a fast/light overnight trip in reasonable weather or a day of alpine climbing in mixed weather. Stays out of the way of my harness. Doesn't flop around during technical climbing.Fits my body well: 5'10" with a deep chest. Two gripes:1. Give it a removable framesheet (like the "hardwave" on the 30 and 40. This would prevent bulky loads and full water bladders from rounding out the cross section and making it uncomfortable2. Needs more options/space for storage in the front vest pockets. As is, they're just too small and non functional. I'd like to be able to carry two water bottles and/or more food up front. If weight is an issue, the holsters/pockets could be removable. Turns into a burrito A vest pack is all about trying to increase stability and comfort, without adding a hipbelt. However, when packed full, it take's the shape of a tube which can make it uncomfortable where it contacts your back, and also reduces the stability. If Mountain Hardwear added a removable Hardwave framesheet, it would have solved this problem. Hopefully next year, they will add it.I'd also like to buy this in a 30 liter, as 20 liters is a tad small for some trips, and just right for others. It also needs to be hydration bladder compatiable. May 14, 2013
LOVE IT Great Pack fits well and the shoulder straps do not dig into your shoulders. Love the pockets which we use to put extra lens for the camera in. Plenty of space for day hikes and even when overstuffed with items. First aide supply food, water filter and extra clothes it carries very well. Our clients love the way they look and as well want them as well. April 29, 2013
