Men's Piero™ Pant 4.3 5 24 24
Great Climbing Pant I own 2 pair of these pants. After ordering the first I ordered another a year plus later. The style has somewhat changed but the material is still durable and slightly stretchy. Perfect for climbing and allowing total range of motion with your legs without restriction. Heel hook by your ear if you want.My first pair could have been a half inch to an inch longer in the legs, but my second pair is right on. The waist on the second pair is slightly large, but I usually wear a belt so no problem. The second pair also has a different button to close your pants with that I am not a big fan of. It works, but the inside part against your body is a little sharp and I sometimes notice a slight sense of discomfort. Besides these slight problems I think these pants rock and continue wearing them all the time!I am hard on clothing and these pants are continuing to hold up to what I throw at them. I guess the slight amount of stretch keeps them from tearing on rocks? Whatever it is it works! May 12, 2013
Review from a perfectionist I bought these Dec 2012 apparently right after the redesign so they will be just like the ones you would get. First off these are my most favorite pants i have ever owned. And generally i agree with the majority of what everyone else is saying. Order a size smaller waistI am a very particular about what i buy, i have literally been looking for over 3 years for a pair of pants that looked decent but were actually functional. I bought these and wore them everyday for 3 months. Especially the Shark color looks casual if you have a casual shirt or looks dressy if you put a nice shirt on, and thats what i did every day even to nice Christmas work parties etc.The good:-The are functional and Flexible: I have been indoor rock climbing in these you forget you even have pants on. I've also done yoga in them, i dont do Karate anymore but you could deffinetly kick someone in the head easily with out worries of ripping them-They are water resistant: shed a light rain-Front pockets like jeans deep not an issue-Fairly light weight-dry fastThe not so good:-do attract hair little more then denim but not horrible-They fit too big around the waist. (i ordered my size 30w32L which i have been for over 10 years and i was swimming in them, i should have returned them but didnt in time, so i just wear a belt and i bought another pair 28wx32L which fit great around the waist but a little snugger around the legs, which is okay makes them look a little dressier) Order a size smaller waist-i want a different color but There other colors are weird, the bone and khaki are too similar and the new stone green looks like washed out and faded, a lighter green then would prefer.-the side pocket is a little weird, its very deep and narrow, like a painters pants but with a zipper. Its too deep for a phone and odd sized for papers.Overall still best pants i've ever owned and happy with them. April 25, 2013
Comfort, performance and good looks Very happy with the durability, look, feel, and function of these pants. I've tried all brands and nothing compares to the total product peformance of the Piero pant......finally April 21, 2013
Great pants, but if it isn't broken... I wear my Piero pants almost every day. This is my 4th pair, but the first since they were updated. I bought this pair because they finally came back in stone green.I really like the new front pockets. They are much deeper and have a notch for a pocket knife with a clip.I'm not a fan of the rivets on the back pockets and I hate the new belt loops. The old belt loops were wider and supported a riggers belt. The new right leg pocket is no better or worse than the old style pockets, but I would have preferred another pocket on the left leg.The new pants run bigger in the waist, but tighter through the seat. The length didn't change, but I had to go down 1" in the waist. That extra inch would have been better served in the pant legs as the cuffs are about 1" too narrow when wearing hiking boots.Overall these are my second favorite pants, right behind the original Pieros. Virtually indestructible!! I bought my first pair in February '12. I bet I've worn them 150 days in the last year and wahed them maybe 20 times. The first test I put them through was a weekend of shed hunting in northern MN. I put over 20 miles hiking cross country through some of the nastiest scrub brush, blow downs and pine trees that the BWCA can throw at you. Add to it, it was snowing one day then 50 degrees the next. These pants amazed me. I thought I wrecked them because they were no longer "shark" in color. They were a blend of pine sap, dirt, mud and whatever else I got on them. I washed them up Sunday night and wore them to a business meeting the next day. They looked like brand new. These pants spent 5 straight days 10 miles up in the BWCA during moose season and they NEVER came off. Of course, I washed them and wore them to the office the following week. I just ordered a second pair today (just so I have another color) and I hope the redesign doesn't disappoint. Yup, every time I lay down on a rock or floor, the pockets empty themselves. Annoying, but man oh man, I still love these pants! March 19, 2013
hmmmmm.... The first day I wore them I "lost" a snap/rivet. They seem less durable than my older pair.....We shall see March 6, 2013
One Year in West Africa I bought these pants for my 27 month service as a rural health worker in Ghana. They are ideal for the environment and culture. The Piero pants are stylish enough to wear to meetings with communities and local government, but also rugged enough to stand the test of serious time in the bush. They dry very quick, which is important because all laundry here is done by hand and line dried. During the height of the "hot" season they are a little warm, but not unbearable. I stand 5'7" tall and have around a 30 inch waist. The 30 small fit perfect. I've also tested these pants in Senegal. They are great for West Africa and you will not be disappointed if you grab a pair. March 1, 2013
Piero pant These pants are great and perfect for casual work, hiking, climbing, bending, etc. The stretch in them allows great mobility and if it is a little chilly the lined pockets help to warm your hands up. I purchased 36x30 and it was a good fit. I'm 210lb, 5'10. There is a little play in the waist, but after a good wash and dry they are right where they need to be. Great product. February 17, 2013
Piero Pants are great for work I have three pairs after getting one a month ago. I'm a landscape Architect/Contractor and in the elements every day. They shed water and dirt right off for walking straight into client meetings. Good for every day and the trails.BHM February 15, 2013
Worth the money I bought these expecting to use them for daily indoor use and potentially cross country skiing. They're lightweight, and versatile. I did expect them to be a more canvas-like material, and instead they have a tech-ey feel, closer to ski pants. No complaints! January 15, 2013
Not made like they use to be. The Piero have been a little redesigned since I purchased my first pair. Since their redesign I have noticed they fit larger and are less warm than their previous design. I bought these for a two week trip to Hueco. I did not get to test the durability of the pants since I ended up injuring myself on the first day so my trip. January 5, 2013
Great pants Material is very comfortable and flexible. It does attract hair easily from pets, more than denim, etc. December 18, 2012
An average pant for a company descending to mediocrity Nothing like what they used to be, Mt Hardwear still provides a decent tech pant. However, I still feel that these were built for around town over the back country. Needs better pockets too. All this aside, I'd still buy another pair...at a much discounted price.I measure a 32, but I should have bought a 30 or 31. The inseam is true to measured length. December 12, 2012
Agreed...great pant, pockets are a problem The quality and feel of these pants are ideal. however, like others have mentioned, there are issues with pockets. two side pockets would be great and better designed for activities with gadgets, maps, etc. in mind. Love the fit, love the feel. December 8, 2012
Pockets In today's world of mobile electronics we all need pockets that can hold a smartphone and other EDC items. Please do not limit us to pockets on one leg.Additionally, related to my comment above this is supposed to be an active pant - make the front pockets deeper. I found that sitting made items in my front pockets to fall out. I would not use the front pockets if I planned on doing anything active. November 15, 2012
Great Pant I originally bought a pair of these pants a couple years ago for a backpacking trip across Europe. These pants fit so well and were so comfortable on that first trip! The material is tough like brush pants, yet feels soft and has an unique stretch to them. I am in the design and build business and my daily job takes me into the thick back country of nc on a daily basis. I wear these pants with a dress shirt to meet clients, they look that good, yet they will push their way through the thorns without a scratch (me or the pants). I continued to purchase these pants until I had enough to wear every single day. They are all I wear. The only remark I would make would be about the design change from last years model to this one (the latest as of Nov, 2012), would be that I love that they opened the front pockets to feel more like jeans.....yet the side leg pocket was change to a single zipper and the open pocket was removed. Please MHW bring back the old open leg pocket design with small side zip. That open pocket is perfect for stashing passports, maps, small notebooks! Otherwise these pants are perfect and I will continue to add to my collection. Some more colors would be nice as well! November 8, 2012
Sturdy pant These are great pants for hiking and climbing on chilly days. The fabric is sturdy, warm, and somewhat water repellent. The first time I wore them was a snow hike and I stayed dry and comfortable while moving with no other bottom layers. They will probably be comfortable about 30F-60F.I wear a 31/34 in Levi's, but these pants fit best in a 30/32. They're slightly stretchy. October 28, 2012
Rugged and Comfortable! Great Pants The Piero Pants are great for cool weather hiking, hunting or sporting events. My only complaint is that they only come in two colors..... I have both of these! Thank for making a product that is both rugged and comfortable! October 23, 2012
Why the changes? I have the Pieros from spring 12, and can't say enough about them. They fit absolutely perfectly, and are my favorite pair of pants ever. Unfortunately I only bought one pair. So when I ordered the new Pieros from fall 12, I didn't expect there to be much of a change. I ordered the exact same size as my others, but they fit entirely differently. The crotch is way baggier, and it feels like the pant legs are wider. The deeper pockets might be the only improvement. Other than that, the huge change in measurements is a big disappointment. Sending back for a refund. Swing and a miss, MHW. October 17, 2012
Great Work Pant I have a pair of the 2012 men’s Piero pant in Khaki size 32,32. I am 5,11 and 160lbs. These pants fit great. I’m not a mountain climber, I’m just an average guy that likes to play outside and gets work/projects done. These pants help me do what I do. They are a great canvas pant without the drawbacks of real cotton canvas.Stretch:The fabric looks and feels just like canvas. But it is so much better. When you squat down the fabric stretches. This prevents the bottom of your pant legs from riding up. It also doesn’t rub all the skin off your knees like a canvas pant wouldSheds Water:If you spill a glass of water into your lap, no problem, the fabric sheds the water. It literally beads up and runs off. The fabric remains dry and not soaked like canvas would.Breathability:The best part about these pants is that they breathe. If you start to work up a sweat these pants will help reduce the heat and moisture that builds up. Don’t get me wrong, they won’t keep you from getting hot and sweaty but they are way better at breathability than canvas or denim.I own a pair of 2011 Winter Wander pants as well. These Piero pants are not going to be as warm because the fabric is just a bit thinner than the Winter Wander but close. The stretch is about the same and so is the water repellence. I would say that the breathability is about equal as well. Where the Winter Wander pants are more of an outdoor adventure pant, the Piero are more of a work pant in my opinion. I think the Piero pants are going to be a bit more durable than the Winter Wander when it comes to scraps and abrasions. The outside surface of the fabric of the Piero just seems tougher.I’m still looking for Mountain Hardware to make a pant with the same fabric as the Winter Wander that looks just like a pair of khaki Nike golf slacks so I can wear them to the office on cold days. No zippers, no cuff cinches, just khaki slacks suitable for the office with all the benefits of stretch, breathability, and water repellence that comes with Mountain Hardware clothing. The 2011 Winter Wander was close. The 2012 Piero is just too much of a work pant for that.A great work pant! October 9, 2012
The last pant I'll ever buy? I have issues with most pants because of my bulky thighs-- soccer and weight lifting. With the Piero, I don't even know I have the pants on, that's how comfortable they are. Even with the stretch and synthetic material, there is no annoying 'swishing' noise when you walk, and liquid beads right off the pants, so they're perfect for when I'm tending bar, or going hiking in Oregon. To top it off, they are stylish enough to wear basically anywhere (I peg mine, because of the slight bell-bottom cut, but I plan on having them tailored). Can't recommend these pants enough. October 2, 2012
great pant Just the right amount of stretch. Fits great, looks great. Only down side is there a little warm. October 1, 2012
Why should the ladies get all the cool structure? I often complain to my wife women's cloths have cool tailoring while men must be satisfied with sackiness. Mountain Hardware has addressed my grievance. My Piero Pants have tailoring and structure and look good without being in-your-face technical. Would be perfect with two side pockets, one for phone, one for eye glasses. September 23, 2012
I like them, but... I would have liked to give the Pieros four stars but I just couldn't. What is the deal with the pockets?!? They are so shallow that change falls out while you're walking. If you're going to put fake pockets on a men's pant at least give them zippers so that we can actually be "active" without worrying about losing everything when on a hike or worse, on the trail in the middle of nowhere. The shorts have the same issue. C'mon folks, you can do better. August 13, 2012
