Fantastic jacket, seems so far to be a perfect combination of lightweight warmth and durability. I had been deciding between this and a few other insulated jackets, but went with the mountain hardwear for fear of the other materials possibly ripping or getting caught on a loose piece of gear. This really is very durable and has survived the Wisconsin winters well with only a light fleece of sweater under it. I haven't been out in the pouring rain yet but I imagine that it could stand up ok to some water.
The only thing is torso length. I am 6'2" 175 lbs and went with the large, which fits great in the arms but is just a tad short around the waist. Overall, one of the best pieces of gear in my arsenal. Absolutely recommend

If this had pit zips it would be perfect!!
Nice warmth to weight ratio.
It's my first synthetic jacket (I usually wear fleece) and this is suprisingly warm compared to fleece.
I typically have worn it stand alone, as it just hasn't been very cold this winter. I'm sure it'll be good down to 0 with a shell.
Great product! [whisper] add pit zips on the next model please..

The sales rep at mountain hardware was awesome! He helped me figure out sizing for my fiance's jacket and he couldn't of been more right! The jacket fits perfectly! I'm so pleased with the material and the warmth of the compressor considering how light weight it is. I will forever be a mountain hardware girl!!! Great products at a great price!

Great Jacket

I bought this jacket in January 2012. I bought a medium and I'm 5'11 and 160 lbs. This means I can layer up if I'm going to be sitting around or standing still for a while. I used mine in Death Valley and it was fantastic for cold mornings and nights as it traps a lot of heat. I bought the dark blue one and it isn't too shiny. Pockets are soft and a good useful size - mesh pocket inside also a neat addition.

Awesome jacket

This jacket is outstanding. It is just the right amount of insulation. It is not big and poofy so you don't have to worry it taking up too much room or getting caught on everything. It works well by itself for a wide temperature range, anywhere from 20 deg F up through 60 deg F. I couldn't ask for a better jacket.

Compressor Jacket

My son use this in east Asia in an area where the night temps were sub-zero at times and single digits in the daytime. He said that it kept him comfortable on all but the windiest of days where the wind chill was so low that you didn't really need to be out anyway. Good Investment and very well made.

Outstanding jacket

Living in the Idaho mountains, with constant temperatures between 0 and 30 degrees fahrenheit, the Compressor proves to be versatile between just standing around and physical activity, such as skiing and skinning up slopes. Most importantly, the medium size fit perfectly with my 5'9" 160 lb frame.

Great Jacket

I got this jacket to be my primary winter weather jacket. I live at 9,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. My job requires me to be outdoors most of the time, working in extreme conditions. I have worn this jacket in a couple snowstorms and when wet, it has proven to be just as warm as when not wet. I have not tested it out yet in extremely frigid temperatures, but it has kept me toasty warm on nights down to zero degrees...though I do tend to be very warm-blooded. The sizing was a bit one the small size, so luckily I tried one on before buying it. I wear a size medium in most jackets, but needed a large in the compressor, and it fits perfectly. This is a bomber jacket, that so far has proven to be everything I need and more to keep me warm and comfortable in any weather. Put a shell on over the top of it in extreme wind or precipitation and you would be unstoppable.

This is just a great jacket bottom line. I wear a baselayer, midlayer and a down sweater with this jacket over top and you are good in just about any condition. As soon as the ice arrives on the east coast this is what I'll be climbing in. It is light weight and comfortable, you don't feel bulky wearing it. All around good jacket.

Get this jacket

Great jacket! This jacket works great in low to mid temps. I found that staying active in this jacket you will be warm in cold temps(10F). Although, sitting around the in the cold, the temps will find their way to your core. Add a layer (Dragon Soft Shell) and you will be fine lounging in the cold. Overall this jacket is exactly what I wanted, really light weight, not constricting at all, and casual enough to wear around town and not look like you just walked off the mountain. And a nice plus, the Bonfire/Grill colors work well with my SF Giants.

Better than expected

Before I got this I had two fears, that it would be to small and too light, but I was wrong about both! This jacket is ideal for everything I've done so far with; snow, climbing, camping, hiking, walking around NYC and extremely cold/windy nights. And it fits perfect. I'm 5'11 175 lbs and completely average build. The jacket still has room for my monkey man jacket underneath as well. I wish i had this jacket years ago!

Everything done right

I live in Anchorage Alaska and picking the right jacket is important. This one was on the nose, first off is so light I thought the box was empty when I picked it up the day it came in the mail. After wearing it comfortably in single digit weather I started noticing that the insulation is so effective that while out in the cold the exterior of the jacket will be cold and uncomfortable to touch, but if you unzip and feel the interior fabric it is very warm and will retain that heat for some time even after removing the jacket. This has replaced my mid-weigh parkas as my "go to" about town jacket, as well as my first choice for snow-shoing and winter sports. I am very impressed with this very versitile jacket.

I was skeptical about a synthetic jacket for awhile now (2-years) and I decided to finally make the purchase with all the good things I've heard about them. When I finally received the package I immediately put on the coat and took my dog for a very long walk that night. The jacket fit magnificently and i felt as if i were walking around in a sleeping bag staying extremely snug and warm! I almost forgot, the fleece lined pockets are AMAZING! I highly recommend all of you to make this your next purchase. If not, well, you're simply losing out.

Fall, winter, or spring the compressor is always my choice for insulation. Handles moisture well and stays warm, lightweight and eminently packable. Throughout the winter this keeps me warm with wool underwear and a shell when moving (sometimes it's even too toasty). I only use something warmer in super-cold high altitude, or when completely stopped or at camp.

This a great jacket. It fits well in the arms, chest, shoulder, and waist. It is super lite, but still keeps you warm.

Great Lightweight Versatile Jacket

This is arguably one of the best jackets MHW has ever made. It is very lightweight and can be used for a wide variety of temperatures. I live in upstate NY and this keeps me warm from 45-15 degrees. Add a fleece and it can be used for even colder temperatures. I didn't think that I would like the black/orange combo but the orange is darker and actually looks very nice. I liked the jacket so much I bought the non hooded version as well.

Love this Jacket! Warm but doesn't get you too hot! Perfect fit, good price, Nice Hood! Wish it came with a compression sack!

Just Right

While hiking in the Wilderness this was my main coat. It shed the water from the mist. Blocked the wind very well. The hood kepted my ears warm. Lightweight, dried quickly, true fit.

Super comfortable and warm!

I bought this jacket for everyday use as I work outside in South East Alaska, where its always cold and wet. The hooded compressor is my new go to jacket. Its what I wear when its super cold in the morning but breathes well enough that I can keep it on under my outer layers all day while I work. The hood is what sets it apart from other jackets, instant warmth on the ears when that icy wind blows. Also this jacket is super comfortable and fits really well. (6ft2 230 pounds I have the XL)
The quality is exactly what you would expect from Mountain Hardwear , AWESOME. Great for travel and camping, I stuffed it into the net pouch inside the jacket and had a pillow and then when I woke up put it on and was really warm (34 degrees)

i can't believe the warmth for the weight of this jacket. great product. if you don't like the color orange don't worry the orange is a little darker than in the photo and looks great. you will not look like a traffic cone on the side of a mountain.

Best Ever!

In my 5 decades I have never had a jacket that offers as much tempurature flexibility and is as light weight as the Hooded Compressor. It has replaced my fleeces for most activities. I have never been a big hood guy but that is really what gives this jacket the ability to handle serious cold. If it is below freezing I put a hard shell over the top to block the wind and precip. The Hooded Compressor layers wonderfully because it has so little bulk. Considered down but for the Pacific Northwest/rain, this is better.

Great for the weight

Great warmth for how light this jacket is, but just after a few months of wearing it the fabric on the sides just under the armpit began to fray from where my arms would rub. Seems a bit too light weight built in that area.
