These are an essential summertime short. Lightweight with enough pockets to be functional on a backpacking trip, comfortable enough to wear casually. I like the fit in the waist and the built in belt, but I think they need to be more narrow throughout the leg. With average sized thighs, I would say there is just too much short near the knee.
I would recommend this product.

I have 2 pairs of those shorts 7 in. inseam. lightweight and great fit. also the built-in belt is a nice feature on extended overnight trips.

Great all around shorts.
I'm 5'9 146lbs. The medium 9" inseam is perfect. Felt a little big at first, but after washing came out perfect. Primarily using it for golf and hanging around town. Will be buying more in different colors soon. Finally found the perfect shorts.

Agree with previous review. Need additional belt loops in front to keep belt and waistband aligned - especially when wearing a pack.
Stitching in crotch area failed on both pair I purchased after three months of use.
I would recommend this product.

I bought these shorts specifically because they were designed for backpacking with no seams under the hip belt area, etc. The biggest complaint I have is that the belt is not sufficiently supported in front such that the belt rode up over the shorts onto my waist. The looseness also resulted in the belt twisting in its casing. Because the belt is thin, it was difficult to feel it well enough to untwist it easily and I ended up just living with it twisted. Also, I found the front pockets somewhat difficult to access while wearing the pack. Patch pockets would definitely be more functional. I think these are good looking shorts and the fabric is very nice, but I don't think they work well for the use that they are supposedly designed for.

I love these shorts. I am 5'8" 175lbs with an athletic build. A 31" waist and inseam. The Medium is perfect for my build, i purchased the short length. In the first week of having these shorts I have logged multiple runs, swims and have worn them just hanging out as well. They are great, durable and very comfortable. I have already ordered another pair.

Best shorts I've ever owned! They are good looking, comfortable, fast-drying, and have ran/biked/hiked/swam/paddled/gone to dinner in them. Fit is a little large in the waist, I am normally a 32 waist and the Medium runs a tad large, but with the belt no risk of losing them. Also love the waistband and full inseam comfort strip, can't say enough except to buy them!

Good Purchase

Once again MH has met my expectations. An owner of several MH clothing items I continue to be impressed with their clothing. From shorts to winter clothing MH sells a quality product. I have no problem purchasing or recommending their clothes. With winter coming I'll be looking for a new pair of pants for ice climbing.

Fit is an issue with me

I indicated "runs a bit large" but that's not entirely accurate. I own a small and medium in this short. I have a 31" waist with thick cyclist's quads, the small is just a touch too small while the medium is too big. I can get away with wearing either but I seem to fall right in between. More of my problem than a problem with the shorts. Otherwise, these are great shorts. Very comfortable, fast drying and good looking.

I use these shorts for hiking, camping, and general leisure. I have been very impressed with the quality of the product. They are comfortable. I purchased the 12" inseam for casual wear. I also like the soft fabric in the waist. The pockets are very easy to use when wearing a large pack. I will purchase another set.

I usually get Large, 36 waist. These area bit too big on me in the waist, however the belt does take up the room and allows them to fit. But you have to take up about 4 or so inches on the belt makeing the waist area fabric fold over. I love the shorts though. I would order a size smaller next time.

Love the shorts

I had only one issue. I got 2 pair of shorts and 1 pair had the belt put in backwards. At first, I thought I had twisted it but upon further investigation, it was inserted from the get go improperly. Good thing is that customer care responded immediately with instructions on how to return and reorder. Love these shorts.

Great Shorts!

Finally I found shorts with a 7 inch inseam! I have short legs and I have been hunting down shorts that fit me well. A bonus was these are comfortable and universal. I can hike, bike, run and swim in these if I wanted. Thanks keep up the great work!!!!

About time

Thank you, MH, for making a pair of men's shorts that are actually short. I have muscular legs due to cycling and a career as a collegiate rower, and I can't stand wearing "shorts" with 10 " inseams. The Canyon Shorts are functional while still long enough to wear in town at social functions.
Now just provide them in dark blue.

I own several pairs of similar shorts from MH. This updated Canyon Short has almost all the same great features as my previous shorts with the exception of two things. The original front pocket cut, and the back pockets have been changed. I miss the old front pockets. They were a better ergonomic design. The zippers on the back pockets (instead of Velcro) were just... more classy. The new fabric is nice improvement. Still, a great pair of shorts.

Nice loose fit and very comfy. The lined waist band is extremely nice feature. I have got a pair in 7 inch and 9 nice but prefer the 9 although the 7's still get a lot of wear.

These shorts are very nice and fratty. Can get them nice and short, but also have a zippered pocket with key loop. The vertical hip pockets are very convenient and don't allow stuff to fall out. Love the integrated belt too. Cool and dry quickly. Perfect summer short

I would normally fit into a medium so the large is great around the waist (a little loose) but the legs are huge because i couldnt get mediums! Oh well, time to stop eating doughnuts and get off the couch! These shorts are great, comfortable, stylish and they offer two different lengths....nice job mountain hardwear! The only request or improvement I could possibly think of is ripstop? Not because these shorts are weak or fragile, because ripstop is just cool!

Fit is loose in the seat and short inseam (7")..... NICE!!! Waist is lined to prevent t-shirt out chafing and the cut actually puts the seam in my groin instead of half-way down the inside on my thigh like most shorts that are loose in the seat..... thug cut doesn't do it for me! Great shorts!

It is a shorter canyon short

I bought these for my husband who has some canyon shorts from previous years. He really like the loose comfy fit as he has trouble finding comfy shorts because he is a power lifter with large legs. The only thing is that in years past he has gotten the 7 inch inseam so that is what we ordered. The 7 inch is not really 7 inches on these and we have to return them for the 9 inch, at least there is that option.
