Mountain Hardwear Athlete Ueli Steck to Speak at The American Himalayan Foundation Annual Dinner Oct. 3

RICHMOND, CALIF. (Sep. 21, 2012) – Mountain Hardwear athlete Ueli Steck will be one of three featured speakers at The American Himalayan Foundation 2012 Annual Dinner. The year’s presentation, ‘The Fast and The Fearless: Rock stars, speed demons and visionaries bringing back stories from the edge,’ will be held at the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco on October 3, 2012.

Steck, along with free solo climbing sensation Alex Honnold and extreme climber and expedition photographer Jimmy Chin, will be the featured speakers at this year’s dinner. Their stories of speed, strength and superhuman endurance are redefining the future of adventure and will be shared in film, music and photography.

This past year Steck added to his already impressive alpine resume with two incredible accomplishments. Just last month he successfully linked three classic Swiss mountains in under 15 hours by climbing to the summit and flying his paraglider as close as possible to the start of the next climb. Earlier this spring he summited Everest for the first time, using no supplemental oxygen.

American Himalayan Foundation Vice President, Norbu Tenzing (son of Tenzing Norgay who with Sir Edmund Hillary made the first ascent of Mt. Everest in 1953) explains the young generation of adventurers, “These young athletes are redefining the perimeters of ‘adventure’. Their stories are a riveting testament to human endurance, skill, strength and an ability to overcome fear in situations where the margin for error is zero.”

Tickets are available and proceeds benefit schools, hospitals and programs in the Himalayas. For more information and tickets call (415) 288-7250 or visit
