Mountain Hardwear And Montrail Sales Team Builds For The Future - Shores Named National Sales Manager, New Hires Across The U.S.
RICHMOND, CALIF. (May 4, 2012) – Mountain Hardwear, Inc., a leader in innovative, premium outdoor apparel, equipment and accessories, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Columbia Sportswear Company (Nasdaq:COLM), announced today the appointment of Tom Shores as National Sales Manager – Mountain Hardwear and Montrail, and several new hires and positions on the sales team.
“Tom’s ability to lead and motivate teams, combined with his extensive industry experience, will be instrumental to the healthy growth of Mountain Hardwear and Montrail in the U.S.,” said Topher Gaylord, President of Mountain Hardwear & Montrail. “The new hires Tom has made, along with our strong existing sales team, will allow the two brands to deliver the highest level of service and support to our retailers.”
Tom Shores, who most recently served as Mountain Hardwear’s Western Regional Sales Manager, will drive the U.S. sales strategy for Mountain Hardwear and Montrail and lead the U.S.-based sales team as National Sales Manager. Shores brings over 20 years of outdoor, performance and water-based sales and retail experience to the role. Prior to Mountain Hardwear, Shores was an Independent Sales Representative and Specialty Sales Manager for Columbia Sportswear Company for over five years. His additional outdoor industry experience includes sales, marketing and management roles at The North Face, Blue Waters Kayaking and Marin Outdoors.
SOUTHEAST TERRITORY EVOLUTION
After 19+ years representing Mountain Hardwear in specialty outdoor retail channels, Bill Chandler will be transitioning into co-ownership of River Sports Outfitters in Knoxville, Tenn., where he will partner with industry veteran Ed McAlister. Mountain Hardwear has worked with Chandler and his Southeastern-based sales agency, Nomad, Inc., since the brand’s beginning in 1993.
“Not many people or accounts know Mountain Hardwear better than Bill Chandler, Ed McAlister and River Sports Outfitters do,” said Shores. “We’re looking forward to continuing to build the strong relationships and legacy that has been established as Bill moves into his new roll at River Sports.”
With Chandler’s departure, the sales structure of Mountain Hardwear and Montrail will transition to a dedicated, in-house sales team in the Southeast Territory. The transition to a direct sales team model will enable the two brands to provide dedicated sales and service support in the Southeast region where there is massive opportunity for growth within the specialty channel.
John Harvey and Hunter Orvis, who both previously represented Mountain Hardwear and Montrail with Nomad, Inc., will be joining the new in-house Southeast Territory as Sales Representatives for Mountain Hardwear and Montrail. Chris Hayes joins Mountain Hardwear as a Sales Representative in the Southeast Territory after five years as a key contributor to the Sorel and Columbia sales teams. Harvey, Orvis and Hayes will cover all key and specialty accounts in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
ADDITIONAL PROMOTIONS AND NEW HIRES
Justin Gill has been named Western Regional Sales Manager for Mountain Hardwear, replacing Shores. In this position, Gill will lead the agencies and in-house sales reps in the Western U.S. Gill has held progressive roles in sales in the outdoor industry over the past 15 years, most recently as the West Coast Sales Manager – Action Sports & Performance for Outdoor Adventure Sales.
Troy Trimmer has been hired as REI Key Account Manager. Trimmer joins Mountain Hardwear following 17 years of successful sales and education with Adventure 16, Montrail, The North Face and Mammut. Trimmer replaces Jaime Buyagawan who is transitioning to an independent specialty rep position within The Sherpa Group, where he’ll continue to work with the Mountain Hardwear and Montrail brands.
Mike Kelly has been promoted from E-Commerce, Customer Care Product Specialist at Mountain Hardwear to Sales Representative for Mountain Hardwear and Montrail in the Northeast Territory covering the Mid-Atlantic region.
It is a clear sign of big things to come when both long-time internal staff and extremely high quality external candidates unilaterally voice their belief in Mountain Hardwear and Montrail brand direction and potential; and I have no doubt the future will bring great successes,” said Shores of his new team appointments.
